Town Linked With Move for Bowyer
Town Linked With Move for Bowyer
Saturday, 2nd Jul 2011 23:33

Town are being linked with a move for veteran midfielder Lee Bowyer, who is a free agent after leaving Birmingham at the end of the season.

The Blues are reported to be in talks with the 34-year-old former Charlton, Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle man regarding a deal which would make him amongst the highest earners at Portman Road. Derby are also understood to be in the hunt.

The controversial 5ft 9in tall Londoner won one full England cap when a Leeds player in 2002, in addition to 13 U21 caps.

Town are certainly in the market for central midfield players with loanee Jimmy Bullard and skipper David Norris no longer at the club.

On Friday, Blues boss Paul Jewell said he expected to make another signing on Tuesday with a further deal likely before the end of the week.

I would be happy if he signed as he has got attributes that we lack in midfield. The potential wage demands worry me slightly but I think the club realise the potential pitfalls of team harmony being destroyed by 1 player earning a lot more than the rest of the squad. If Bowyer or any other potential signing have wage demands out of clubs wage structure and wont compromise then they wont sign.

If its true it will come down to what he does on the pitch for us!

Human nature being what it is if he is successful his past will be a five minute wonder, if not then it will get raked over again and again.

Players like Bowyer cant just take the money hence why they get angry and frustated if he comes he will be here to WIN and his team mates will know if they dont pull there weight

churchmans - If you cannot read between the lines of my post I will just say that if Lee Bowyer was considered by Sir Bobby Robson to be a player worthy of signing up and have him play in his team at Newcastle can it be so bad if Paul Jewel thinks he can do a job for Ipswich?

I think considering this club has just sold yet another great prospect with seemingly the first offer we've had (?!),us fans are entitled to think that we can spend a little (not all) of that £8.1-12M on a player/players slightly better than Lee Bowyer.

Thre must be better possibilities out there...surely?

tractorboy2434 - I'm with you on this. townietilidie - well, we've all met/read about apologists just like you. 'He was found not guilty'. Yes, well OK - he was on that offence. But his record off the field speaks for itself. There is no room at this club for a 'man' like Lee Bowyer - strewth! do we really crave promotion that much?
As for townietilidie calling those of us who have principles 'idiots' - well that just shows the strength of his argument. Having to revert to verbally abusing those who hold different opinions from his again shows the depth of his argument. I won't even say I pity you for your lack of debating skill [or your wonderful command of the English language and grammar] because that would bring me right down to your level now wouldn't it ....

Definatley would bring a bit of steel and talent to the midfield but concerned about the age!

No thanks, Birmingham announced he would not be offered a new contact before the end of last season (before they were relegated) and now we are being linked with him - why now? Because we have money from CW sale? Not the type of player that epitomises what we are aspiring to or what our heritage deserves (IMO).

When i first saw that Bowyer was released by Birmingham i thought we should try and get him, he had a good season in the prem. He would be an asset to any championship team! Yes he gets booked alot but to me that shows desire and a wanting to win attitude he is a very good midfield player and if and thats a massive IF we get him Bullard or any 30+ player with the same back ground as them two i would be very happy! as for people saying they would not cheer him or clap if he scored... MAN UP!! thats just pathetic! would you like Ribery here or goodwille (who we are linked to) ??? both have criminal records but both good footballers! and i would take them both s3o bring on BOWYER, DYER, BULLARD plus would love to see John Carew just been released he would be a AWSOME signing??????

Christine try reading my post properly and understand that i have not verbally abused anybody for having principles just stating that those "idiots" who have said they would not cheer bowyer if he scored in the blue shirt or renew their season tickets if he signed should not be on here claiming to be real fans . That isnt about principels its about acting damn well pathetic and childish . And as for you mocking my debating skills and my wonderfull command of the English language as you put it , im not on here to gain an A+ in English . So you wont be renewing your season ticket if we sign Bowyer ? Do you sit next to Tractorboy 2434 by any chance ?

Sigh...

If ever an example was needed to demonstrate the inarticulate, ahem, 'thoughts' of the average football fan then this one would be perfect!
Take an issue, ignore any attempt at rational reflection, pile in with derogatory and personal abuse and polarise the argument into the most infantile black and white extremes.

No wonder football has been hijacked by Big Business - the fans aren't really up to the job of providing a sane and rational opposition are we?

And so we roll on, knee-deep in inconsistencies and moral ineptitude and all for the sake of 'the club' (sic).

Oh well, as long as we win eh?

Would be a good signing for me in this league.

Yes he has an edge, but the best players DO have an edge.

A TEAM WITH NO CUTTING EDGE WILL NOT GET US IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.
