Old Boy Wright Training With the Blues
Old Boy Wright Training With the Blues
Friday, 8th Jul 2011 14:09

TWTD understands that former Town keeper Richard Wright is training with the Blues at Playford Road. The 33-year-old was released by Sheffield United at the end of the season and is currently looking for a new club.

Wright joined the Blades in September 2010, having been let go by Town at the end of the previous season, but made only two appearances while at Bramall Lane before a knee injury which required surgery ended his campaign early.

The one-time Arsenal, Everton and West Ham keeper’s presence at Playford Road alongside his mentor Malcolm Webster, who rejoined the Blues last week, is likely to lead to speculation that a third spell with Town might be in the offing, however, we understand that the ex-England international is only back at the club in order to get himself fit while he searches for a new team.

Would far prefer Fulop v Wright with Lee-Barrett as a third choice. Sign him up PJ!

Although I do realise it is probably just because he lives in the area and his son is in the youth set up...

This is getting to be like Dad's Army!

Maybe we're entering a team in a veterans' league next season?

Sign him up, a blue through and through & under Webster will perform at his best.

Still got plenty of time left in the game. Knows the club, wants a club, we need a No1/back up keeper. I think he would be a good acquisition.

Love it... "Who do you think you are kidding Mr Hilter..."

Leg-end... would take him if its not silly money!

As a general point - I like all these freebies. Nothing really to loose and saves the pennies for the next big signing! Good work PJ - keep it up!

At 33, he will be one of the younger members of our squad !! However, don't sign him up as he couldn't catch a cold !!!

Webster and Wright used to be a terrific team, I wonder if it could be again ?

Despite comments above to the contrary, what I personally understand from this story, with something akin to crystal-clear clarity, is that Richard Wright is NOT signing for us.

I tend to read the words underneath the headline and process them accordingly - that's my tactic. Just a tip there.

wirighty or ALB??..uhmmm? no brainer!
He was player of the season 3 seasons ago...should never have been let go..great second string keeper and maybe even first if Fulop loses the plot..
Go get him!

Perhaps we can come up with a Dad's Army theme for next season. Could be fun.

Please do not sign him up as we have been down this road before and it did not work. Remember also, he left us despite being advised by Burley to stay and his career never blossomed as it should have. He clearly is not the man he was especially when you cannot get into the Sheff U side. He is probably rich now but he has wasted his playing career and I for one do not want him back. The last spell was disappointing and that is an unserstatement. Go and get Sott Loach if you want an Ipswich fan.

Hopefully he is only training with us. Yet another injury prone 30+ player. We can do better, although having said that he is much better than ALB!
