Town and Swans Begin Scotland Talks
Town and Swans Begin Scotland Talks
Wednesday, 13th Jul 2011 09:54

Town chief executive Simon Clegg and Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins opened talks regarding Jason Scotland’s proposed return to the Swans last night, according to reports in Wales. News of the Welsh club’s renewed move for the Trinidad and Tobago international first broke yesterday, although with no official contact having been made by the time manager Paul Jewell spoke after yesterday’s 2-0 win at FC Eindhoven.

Swansea are reported to want to sign Scotland, who has a year left on his Blues contract, on a free transfer, while Town are said to be looking for a deal where they receive up to £500,000 based on the 32-year-old’s appearances and goals in what would be his second spell at the Liberty Stadium.

Scotland, who appears to be surplus to requirements at Portman Road since the signings of Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington and with a third new frontman also targeted, enjoyed a highly successful spell with the Swans between 2007 and 2009, scoring 53 goals in 91 starts and 14 sub appearances.

The now-Premier League side made an attempt to sign last summer’s £750,000 recruit from Wigan Athletic on loan in February but the clubs were unable to agree a deal.

After that move broke down, Swansea took fellow Blue Tamás Priskin on loan for the remainder of the season, a deal which eventually led to the recently resolved spat between the clubs regarding the Swans’ failure to pay Town £300,000 in wages and a bonus relating to the Welsh side’s promotion through the play-offs.

Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday were previously linked with Scotland this summer, although the Owls appear confused about their interest with owner Milan Mandaric confirming it but manager Gary Megson dismissing the claims. Rumours over the last couple of days have linked Barnsley.

We understand Simon Clegg is due in Dublin today for one of his regular meetings with club owner and chairman Marcus Evans, with Scotland's proposed switch to Swansea and Town's offers for a striker and a wideman certain to be on the agenda.

If Swansea are prepared to offer a good price then fair enough. I honestly think however a lot of people aren't giving Scotland enough credit.

He may not be the youngest or fastest of strikers anymore but he's clearly a natural goal scorer and managed to bag us 10 in an otherwise poor side last season.

If someone like Sharp, Maynard or even Sordell comes in to replace him then fine, but otherwise I reckon he'd be a handy player to have on the bench.

This guy isn't that bad, No one can say that when he got the chance he didn't find the back of the net,
I hope future players that might be looking at coming to this club don't ever read this forum as i think they will be telling our mangaement to stick it where the squirrel keeps his nuts, Why can't we just say thank you jason for the season you gave us and good luck.
After all alot of his goals were winning goals and points for the team.

I agree with when people say he's not for this club anymore and yes i would take 500,000 for him. But lets show a little respect to at the end of the day is a human.

I think there are some very harsh comments on here against Scotland. He scored 10 goals last season in which the team was struggling to create, most of those he made himself with a smart turn and shot!
Remember that connor scored just 15 goals in 72 appearances, 9 of those goals last season and he went for mega millions! so all in all i belive scotland did ok at town. Yeah he hardly set the place alight but hes by no means the onltyone now is he!!!

I think its clear why the guy gets so much stick. Yes he did score 10 goals last season, which isn't terrible (did miss quite a few though), but the fact is he is horrific to watch. I'd rather watch Priskin score 6 goals than watch Scotland score 10 to be honest. Priskin is quick, great touch, brings others into play. The ball just bounces off Scotland and he's left as a lump on the floor with his arms up asking for a free kick.

Why do Swansea think they have any right to expect to buy him on a free transfer?

500k pleaee, or do one.

Lot of you on here are missing the point with Scotland.
His footwork is good, very quick and he proved last season in a poor and disjointed team that given the sewrvice he will score goals.
He is and never was a lone striker which was the role he was expected to operate in much of the time. Played in a similar role Chopra will fail also.
Good luck Jason and I hope you bag a few next season.

Agree that he gets a rough deal on here as 10 goals from the scraps he was thrown last year isn't bad but clearly PJ wants more pace and frankly with some nurturing I think Priskin of the two of them gives us something Chopra and the Duke don't. More importantly - pace in midfield, a quality CB and a right back please (David Wright anyone?).

hull's adam pearson gave an interview on hull's talk sport and he said theres no chance of jimmy bullard being loaned to ipswich for this coming season due to wages and ipswich being a promotion rival. pearson also said any club who wants to loan bullard will have to pay his wages in full due to hull's new owners being unwilling to pay players to play for other clubs.

Scotland, to be completely honest - on paper at least, is better than Ellington and Priskin. Ellington has something like 7 goals in the last 5 seasons, and Priskin has about 5 in 50 for us. Scotland does get goals. I'd much rather we got rid off Priskin. Priskin must be the laziest player I have ever seen in an Ipswich Town shirt.

Clearly not wanted by Jewell so its best that he goe's. Why we spent all season pumping balls up to a bloke who can't jump and likes the ball played to his feet I'll never know. He was wasted with the tactics that we used, mind you could do with being a bit swifter and he is not the player that he was when he was first at Swansea.

Are Swansea the meanest, tightest club we have ever come accross?

I'd rather have scotland than priskin. Scotland scored 10 goals last season and Priskin got 5.

Scotland has played his best footy as a lone striker - he had a chance here last year and wasn't decent enough for me. He did his bit to help but he's getting on and if Swansea want him back let him go. I'm much more excited about young Priskin partnering Chopra up front and having someone to share the load with.

Just praying we play 2 up top next season! Let's go for it!

Agree to the free transfer and then deny ever talking to them. It's the Swansea way.

Agree with most views on here, feel Scotland did quite well last season, really was frustrating seeing him isolated feeding off long balls, this guy really needs the ball to feet. Do however think he is now redundant with chops and ellington in, would keep priskin as he is younger, and offers a different dimension upfront think he has alot to prove aswell.
Get really irritated by some supporters on here, maybe its the lack of something to cheer about but there really is alot of negativity and moaning 9 mainly same people time and time again), although most seem to be getting behind what i think are good signings. Excited by more potential signings, would like treacy, think a bit of height would be needed up top although if sharp comes in i would be more than happy, hopefully bullard( hyam to be given more chances as he is a good prospect with boywer, healy, leadbitter would be a competitive CM, we desperately need a centre back or two!! think carlos will improve at right back, needs to be given a chance and with peters and ainsley for back up think money would be better spent in other areas. As for another keeper i rate fullop, does occasionally flap but is still a top keeper in this league, and ALB is ok as backup, any veiws on cropper stepping up as a number 3??
really looking forward to this season COYB!!!!!!!!!

What is wrong with some posters on this board, Scotland has to go.... But what all the moaning about Priskin, this lad has a lot to prove and if given the chance this season will score the goals. A very very good hold up player who can lay the ball onto Chopra to score his 20 goals.

As I have said before, I feel sorry for Jason - played as a very isolated striker in a negative one up front since PJ arrived at the club. BUT I am afraid he is surplus to requirements at PR (despite having a better goal scoring record to Priskin) - providing that the club sign the striker they have a bid in for. Would hate to start the season with just 3 senior strikers again. Nowhere near enough.

Hm. I'm undecided on whether I'd prefer Scotland or Priskin to leave (it's clear one or the other will be surplus, with potentially three other strikers, plus Murray, on the books).

Scotland is a poacher not a runner, and we now have a better one of those in Chopra. He can hold the ball up a bit, but is rather slow and his strike rate is not outstanding. But he was our top-scoring forward last season.

Priskin is younger and more agile, but I wish he'd hurry up and show us more of that 'potential' he's supposed to have. Only flashes so far.

Best wishes to Jason if he does go, and thanks for those valuable 10 goals.

while i agree that scotland getting a bit hard done by on here, those people saying that w e didnt give the front men any service should take note of the official stats. we got in more crosses, & created more chances than any other team in this division. we just didnt put them away. that not all down to scotland of course but as a striker has to take his share of the blame

I don't mind Scotland, I have nothing against him, but in the games I managed to get to last season he was so damn frustrating to watch. Still think he may have something to give but not sure if it's for us.

On a different subject, I've just read on another website that we are interested in Jobi McAnuff. I appreciate that it was a rumor site and definitely not taking anything as gospel off of the site , but just wondering if anyone had heard anything more concrete?

bigfatjoe added 19:45 - Jul 13
id rather we got rid of priskin! if scotland got rid of all that weight he would be a quality player but if we sold him then it would'nt be a bad thing.

McAnuff has just been made reading captain. Plus i think he signed a contract extension recently so that is doubtful.
