Carson Withdrawn From Milk Cup Thursday, 21st Jul 2011 13:28 Town have withdrawn 18-year-old midfielder Josh Carson from the Northern Ireland squad playing in the Elite section of the Milk Cup next week. The prestigious youth tournament clashes with the Blues' first team pre-season fixtures at Colchester and at home to Wolves. Academy duo Caolan Lavery, a striker, and midfielder Cormac Burke are still in the squad for the U19 section of the competition, along with defender Rory McKeown, who recently joined Kilmarnock having been released by the Blues’ youth set-up at the end of the season. The Northern Irish face Denmark on Monday 25th July and Georgia two days later, prior to the play-off matches and final, which take place on Friday 29th July. Carson has previously won caps at full and U21 levels, while Lavery has played for the U21s and Burke, who signed a one-year professional contract last week, and McKeown for the U19s. Town academy keeper Cody Cropper, who also signed one-year professional deal last week, has arrived in Northern Ireland to meet up with the U18 squad the US are fielding in the tournament. Cropper has previously played for his country at U20 level. The US take on Israel on Monday and Mexico on Wednesday before the positional play-offs on the Friday, which may see Cropper face his Northern Irish Town team-mates. Town are sending an academy U15 side to compete in the Junior section of the tournament. The young Blues face US side the South Coast Strikers on the Monday, County Antrim on the Tuesday and Queen of the South on the Wednesday.
