Town Linked With Move for Arsenal Striker
Town Linked With Move for Arsenal Striker
Thursday, 21st Jul 2011 23:57

Town are set to offer Arsenal £1 million for striker or wideman Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, according to a tabloid report. The 20-year-old has previously played in the Championship with Blackpool, Doncaster and Cardiff.

Forest Gate-born Emmanuel-Thomas joined the Arsenal academy at the age of seven, progressing through the ranks to skipper the U18s to the 2009 FA Youth Cup at the age of 16 and swiftly breaking into the reserves.

The 6ft 3in tall England U17 and U19 international, who played under former Town coach Chris Kiwomya as a Gunners youngster, has made only one senior Arsenal start in an FA Cup tie, plus a further single Premier League sub appearance and three more cup games from the bench.

After spells on loan largely playing in wide midfield roles at Blackpool, Doncaster and last season with Cardiff, Arsene Wenger is reported to have decided to allow Emmanuel-Thomas to leave on a permanent basis.

Town boss Paul Jewell is understood to be on the look-out for a big frontman to augment his existing strike force, while Emmanuel-Thomas’s ability to play wide may also prove an attraction with the Blues manager also keen to add to his midfield ranks.

Elsewhere, with Hull City still to officially comment on former Blues loanee Jimmy Bullard's reported two-week suspension, QPR are claimed to have moved on to other targets having been unable to agree loan terms with the Tigers.

Earlier in the summer, Blues boss Jewell ruled Town out of the running saying that the financial side of bringing the 32-year-old back to Suffolk was beyond the club's means.

Yes! Versatile, young & hungry, what a bargain at 1mill though only downside to this transfer, IF it happens, is that whoppit will have his say on it!

Interesting rumour but lets hold fire on getting too excited even if he does sign, lets not put the kid under too much pressure, he's not Van Persie!

Makes a massive difference to just throwing in a £5m bid for the hell of it......

Absolutely fantastic signing if it happens, even for more than 1 mil! Saw him a few times for Cardiff last season, was a real powerhouse about the pitch. Not seen him in the striker role, but he'd be the perfect compliment to chopra up front! And with the added benefits of being a winger... Sign him up PJ!!! COYB!!!

Would be a decent signing, I seem to remember he caused us quite a few problems when we played Cardiff last season, both pacey and strong would be a pretty good target man to put up top with Chops.

Sell a young English 6'3" striker / wideman for £8m...
Buy a young English 6'3" striker / wideman for £1m...

Can't be too upset if this happens!

Certainly not the worste player we've been linked with. If this comes off, would be a good move.

Not the type of winger i want. I don't think Cardiff fans were too fussed with him either way. 3rd choice after whittingham and henry and a mile away from these two in m opinion. Civelli's a gonna i reckon.

This no decent centre back link though is starting to worry me more.

Would be a decent signing, especially for £1m, but not gonna get too excited til he's walking around with a blue shirt. Reading between the lines, I can honestly see us getting Bullard, I know they said they wouldn't let him loan move to another Championship club, but with QPR moving on, Bullard seemingly not welcome at Hull, another CHEEKY little loan offer my come off!!

Exciting news if we can acquire him. Saying that, he'll probably end up playing in the blue of Leicester.
