Stockdale Close to Loan Move
Stockdale Close to Loan Move
Friday, 22nd Jul 2011 00:56

Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed that Town target David Stockdale is close to a loan move, probably to a Championship club. The 25-year-old was left out of the squad as the Cottagers defeated Northern Irishmen Crusaders 4-0 in the Europa Cup last night with the Blues understood to be the favourites to sign the goalkeeper ahead of Leeds if the former Darlington man is loaned to a Championship side.

Jol says Stockdale, who was first linked with Town on Thursday, is near to a move, although his destination depends on continuing discussions regarding a recall clause: "Yes, he is close, but of course there is a little issue with the recall.

"We can't recall him if he is playing in the Premier League. Maybe there is a bit of space [for manoeuvre] but I don't want to talk about it.

"[If we cannot insert a release clause], then we have to put him in the Championship. But there is a possibility he could go to the Premier League."

Premier League Swansea recently tried to sign Stockdale on a permanent deal and may well be interested in a loan move if the recall situation can be resolved.

Town boss Paul Jewell has been on the look-out for another keeper all summer, targeting former Coventry man Keiren Westwood prior to his switch to Sunderland.

I hope it is us, I think we defiantly need another keeper as both Fulop and ALB have there weaknesses and wouldn't fancy either of them being our No 1 for the whole season, but maybe this lad might 'fit the bill'.

I have been banging on, on here, about how we desperately need a quality keeper to do anything this season. It would instill a confidence throughout the team. This could be a good move although it would be a worry that he could be recalled at any time.

If we use the opportunity while we keep looking for a permenant signing lets do it and hope this is not anather let down.

The premier talk didn't fill me with much confidence, but maybe that's Martin Jol talking the lad up ?

I would be disappointed if we signed a loan player with a recall clause as our first choice goalkeeper, we'd go through the whole season worrying he could be recalled at any moment and we'd only be developing a player for another club. Let's make a permanent signing please!

I'D be verry happy if we loaned him as hes a top quality keeper and we would be able to use our money in other areas as i think we more desperately need a cm and cb.

Reading the quote they look more likely to release him to Swansea.

Hang on hang on!!! Did any1 watch the game against Cardiff?? Fulop was amazing that game! I rate fulop don't see the need for another GK! We have ALB and also R Wright has been training with the team so y not sign him up! Properly a better keeper than stockdale! Oh and season long loan for C Bellemy would be very nice!

Would be a very good signing.

Just have to hope Mark Schwarzer doesn't get injured.

Good signing but need good cover if Schwarzer gets injured and Stockdale gets called back.

He favours a move to Leeds.

Lots of players choosing other clubs. We MUST sort the defence out and soon.

yes!!!! all those ppl out ther who r saying that we need more defenders in, though k admit there is a lack in numbers, the problems have been the GK!!! Fulop can keep the ball out of the net from some great shots, so could ALB...though he cldnt do anything else. Stockdale can do all of that, plus kick it, he brings some young enthusiasm and most importantly he can organise the defence properly!!!! then u dont get silly mistakes!!!

Get Fulop to practice taking crosses and he is good as anyone in the league.

That's strange, according to Sky Leeds are the favourites to sign him, don't hold your breath that he will come here, this must make about 40 names this summer.

Could be good till he gets recalled , would prefer him (or loach) on a permanent basis.
