Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed that Town target David Stockdale is close to a loan move, probably to a Championship club. The 25-year-old was left out of the squad as the Cottagers defeated Northern Irishmen Crusaders 4-0 in the Europa Cup last night with the Blues understood to be the favourites to sign the goalkeeper ahead of Leeds if the former Darlington man is loaned to a Championship side.

Jol says Stockdale, who was first linked with Town on Thursday, is near to a move, although his destination depends on continuing discussions regarding a recall clause: "Yes, he is close, but of course there is a little issue with the recall.

"We can't recall him if he is playing in the Premier League. Maybe there is a bit of space [for manoeuvre] but I don't want to talk about it.

"[If we cannot insert a release clause], then we have to put him in the Championship. But there is a possibility he could go to the Premier League."

Premier League Swansea recently tried to sign Stockdale on a permanent deal and may well be interested in a loan move if the recall situation can be resolved.

Town boss Paul Jewell has been on the look-out for another keeper all summer, targeting former Coventry man Keiren Westwood prior to his switch to Sunderland.

It would instill a confidence throughout the team.This could be a good move although it would be a worry that he could be recalled at any time. If we use the opportunity while we keep looking for a permenant signing lets do it and hope this is not anather let down.

Let's make a permanent signing please!

We have ALB and also R Wright has been training with the team so y not sign him up! Properly a better keeper than stockdale! Oh and season long loan for C Bellemy would be very nice!

Fulop can keep the ball out of the net from some great shots, so could ALB...though he cldnt do anything else. Stockdale can do all of that, plus kick it, he brings some young enthusiasm and most importantly he can organise the defence properly!!!! then u dont get silly mistakes!!!
