Ingimarsson Again Set to Miss Out
Ingimarsson Again Set to Miss Out
Friday, 22nd Jul 2011 14:11

New Town signing Ívar Ingimarsson is again set to be on the sidelines when the Blues take on Southend United in a friendly at Roots Hall this evening (KO 7.45pm). The Icelander, who joined on a free transfer from Reading this summer, has missed all Town’s pre-season games so far due to a thigh injury.

Boss Paul Jewell is taking essentially the same squad that played in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Cambridge to face the Shrimpers.

Speaking about Ingimarsson after the game at the Abbey Stadium, Jewell said the club are being careful with the 34-year-old: “He’s been doing some fitness work but we’re aware he’s got a thigh strain.

"It’s a difficult one because if we push him too much and he tears it, he’ll be out for a long time.”

This is not good.

Countless occassions where players have bad seasons and always blame it on a lack of pre-season action.

Hope we haven't signed a total crock.

Bravo Jewell. Pathetic signing, barely played last season & has been injured all pre-season! Fantastic.

Why are you not trying to sign a CB PJ? our defence is clearly our weak-point, Delany is barely average too.

Concerning... dare I suggest we need 2 new CBs before the start of the season, Smith & Delaney just don't seem up to it. Needs addressing urgently....

It's just one injury, it's not good but this doesn't mean he'll definitely be plagued with injuries throughout the season. We all, and PJ, know we need another centre back! It just goes to ask the question, why didn't we add another year onto McAuley's contract offer... -_-

OK i will, maybe because he is a good player, we signed Jimmy Bullard who is a injury prone player at look at what we got out of him!!

jesus give the guy a chance, he hasnt even kicked a ball for us yet.

YES - he was injured last season
YES - he has picked up a MINRO injury this PREseason

I would rather him be injured now than half way through the season.

Seriously some of you fans are so fickle

Oh well, that's alright then!! As long as he's fit sooner or later!! What a damn stupid post....

he isn't injury prone he just has an injury..

but what i will say is this is the downside of signing older players (lol he is 34 hardly really old) takes longer to recover from injurys.

I am afraid this is beginning to look like a very poor signing. Abysmal injury record last season and released by Reading - presumably as they didn't expect him to stay fit long enough to play. Suspect not too many other clubs after him for this very reason - which is probably why we stood a chance of getting him! I agree with bedsitfc - this is a massive downside to signing players of this age.

Four pre-season games - not been fit for any. Almost certainly won't be fit for the start of the season - as he has pretty much missed most of pre-season. This just leaves us with two below average CB's - PJ must act very quickly to sort this out - otherwise we will conceed goals for fun.

Thanks jas, at least someone other than me sees the seriousness in this situation!

As long as he's fit to face Colchester on Tuesday not worried.

@IP3 Are you so well in with the higher echelon down at PR that you know exactly want PJ is doing? Or are you just a plonker who doesn't have a clue what he is talking about? I know which one I think you are......

lewlew84 - genius statement re: chuckle bros
rossden - I agree
IP3, dundeebloo, weddings, suffolk_n_good - stop whining. Oooo he misses pre-season - big deal! The season hasn't yet started so he still has time!
chrisw2045, Mr_Evans, suffolkpoker - I agree give the guy a chance!

And I think that's everyone covered...!

This was always going to be a concern and Reading fans will tell you that his knees are a bit dodgy so with this thigh strain as well it is a bit worrying. Still think he was worth a punt and hopefully he will be ready once we start the season proper. He is a very fit player so if he can get over this setback he will be fine - I hope.
Badly need another centre back though and Sonko was selling himself today on Sky Sports. He will be free and only 30 years of age - a mere youngster.

I would rather he miss pre season games and is ready for the season . A man who has played 250 games in the top two flights in 8 years is hardly injury prone ,he just has an injury . Too many panic merchants amongst our fans almost wanting us to fail .
"looking like a very poor signing " he was free if he plays half the games of the season it is a good squad signing any more a bonus .
He played more times than Priskin and Martin did in the last two seasons and we spent millions on them !!

To the knockers of Ivan don't start going on about signing a injury prone player and then go on about breaking the bank to sign bullard !!

CambridgeBlue added 15:50 - Jul 22
Just wondering how many people on here are suggesting we sign Bullard while moaning about signing an injury-prone player?

He cost us NOTHING so not the worst ever signing. If he plays 20 games next season we've got our moneys worth.
