Town Linked With Loan Move for Andrews
Town Linked With Loan Move for Andrews
Tuesday, 2nd Aug 2011 08:00

Town are being linked with a season-long loan move for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Keith Andrews. The Blues, Leeds, Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest are reportedly amongst a number of Championship clubs believed to be chasing the 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

Defensive midfielder Andrews began his career with Wolves, moving on loan to Oxford United, Stoke and Walsall before making a permanent switch to Hull City in 2005 when his contract at Molineux ran out.

After a just over a year with the Tigers, the Dubliner moved on to the MK Dons where he made his name playing under Paul Ince, the former England international taking him into the Premier League during his short spell in charge at Ewood Park for £1.3 million in the summer of 2008. The first of the 6ft tall midfielder’s 20 Irish caps - plus two goals - followed soon after.

Last season Andrews, who missed the final game of Blackburn’s Far East tour with a groin injury on Saturday, made only three starts and three sub appearances for Rovers and he has been tipped to move on this summer, despite having a contract which takes him up to 2013.

Lancastrian reports earlier in the week claimed Andrews would move on this week with the Blues now reported to be the favourites for his signature, albeit on a loan basis.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has made no secret of his desire to add a defensive midfielder to his squad, having targeted Nottingham Forest’s Guy Moussi in recent weeks and with veteran former Middlesbrough man George Boateng having spent time training at the club. The Dutchman eventually joined Moussi at the City Ground with the Frenchman signing a new contract.

Good signing - we need him for away games to sit in front of the back four. Would prefer him to Kennedy or Hyam in that position.

Still need a defender though

Key words

However gd signing if true

Slightly conceded about the lack of defenders

@gildersO. I agree. Joey Barton would be a fantastic signing. He is too good forthe championship however if he believes in the ambition of Jewell and the team would not be a problem. He is a player who plays football for all of the right reasons ( judging by his tweets and the passion he plays with) Come on PJ atleast offer him terms! Got a half decent chance of snapping him up!

We've needed a decent defensive midfielder for a couple of seasons. I'd like to see him come here.

Any talk or even suggestion that Joey Barton would sign for us is ridiculous. Come on!

Andrews would be a good signing and it's realistic he may come. Fingers crossed.

Good signing, and Im pleased its a season long loan rather than a permanent signing at 30. Does suggest that PJ is thinking 4-5-1.

Agree with most that this would make more sense than Kennedy playing there!!
Barton is a dream, so don't even bother getting excited over that one, but please PJ one more defender- if Ivar gets injured then we already know that Tommy and Delaney aren't quite up to the task yet!!!! COYB's

I have just heard on SSN that Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in Barton. So yes that definately will not be happening now haha. I do not know much about Andrews but from what I have heard would be a good signing

Things are really starting to look pretty good. It was a pity that we let Gareth McCauley go though. I would imagine that this is the last piece in PJ's puzzle. Maybe Sol Campbell will be the answer to that one. I have heard quite a few rumours but nothing concrete. I don't suppose that Phil HAM TWTD couls arrange for PJ to access this site. I have a sneaking suspicion that he already takes part. Is it Bobble??

I don't even want to get started on those people banging on about trying to sign Joey Barton...other than to say you need to be sectioned. And was that someone still going on about signing Stearman? For f*uck's sake, really people?!

Look, Barton and Stearman are Premiership players, used to earning Premiership money. PREMIERSHIP. They WILL NOT sign for a CHAMPIONSHIP team on Championship money. Tune into Reality FM...we're all here waiting for you.

We certainly need another central defensive midfielder, so that we can field an entire team of them and not have to bother with forwards or defenders. Ridiculous idea: Jewell has unfortunately fallen into the "I've got lots of money and I'll use it to collect players for my scrap book even if I don't need them" trap. Same as Burley Magilton and Keane. Get rid.
