Town Topic: Finally Town's Year?
Town Topic: Finally Town's Year?

The pundits either have Town down as no-hopers or potential dark horses, but how do you see Paul Jewell's much-changed squad faring during 2011/12?

Who do you expect to be the main challengers and who do you feel will be playing League One football this time next year?

Like most supporters I will hope for play offs. But my head says top half of table.... To finish worse than the 'keane years' would be shock.

We still need more players

I would say ... Chuck a big bag of marbles in the middle of the kitchen floor.

If more yellow ones than any other colour roll over by the door, it's mid-table.

If the red ones tend to roll under the fridge, play-offs here we come!

If the cat comes in to see what's going on and starts pawing the blue ones towards his dinner-bowl, that sounds like an automatic promotion to me.

If papa comes along upon hearing the din and ...zwooop!...trips upon the glassy balls, we're doomed to relegation.

This league is impossible to predict, bring it on!!

And good luck to my "other" team too, AFC Wimbledon, against the other half of Bristol today!

cheers!

Phil

10th I think, Jewell will do well with the semi-complete squad he has, but there are to many players like Edwards, Leadbitter who will stop us pushing into the playoffs. The lack of a creative midfielder will mean we will struggle to create chances. If Jewell can bring in more players then who knows, perhaps...

I think if after all the new signings and Jewell wanting to play 4-4-2 he would have brought players in to play it, so I think we will struggle with what we have playing
4-5-1 especially defensively as I believe we are weaker at the back compared to last season with perhaps Cresswell being the exception

With current squad a struggle, need a good right sided centre back under 30, right back who is tall and can defend and play the ball forward too, a 15 a season goal scorer over 6 feet 2 inches, and most important of all a central midfield player who can create tackle and defend. Cost £10 millions plus!

I think it's the most unpredictable season ahead for a very long time, I obviously hope we do well but I have no idea, as long as to a man we give it our all I will be happy and we have as good a chance as any, If anyteam finishes above Leicester they will be champions I guess but they have alot of big names to keep happy and that may cause them problems, what ever happens we need to be patient, this needs to be seen as a fresh start and while we all crave success it may take a couple of seasons but with luck on the injury front and with minimal suspensions you never know. Playing Lee Martin in front of Carlos Edwards on the RHS with an ageing right sided Centre Back looks suicidal to me. I like Edwards but he needs to be playing right side midfield with a quality full back behind him - somebody like David Wright.

Create, tackle and defend. You are asking for 2 players there, ain't many players in the world who would fall into this bracket.

the summer signings show that the manager is rebuilding the squad and the indications that he knows we need a centre half + right back are encouraging. i would let fulop + scotland + priskin + peters go ( if we can find a buyer ) and replace them with younger/better quality players either by buying or loaning from the premier league.the league is wide open although of a higher standard than last season. optimistically i would hope we are in touch with the play offs at xmas and can keep improving to get to the top six by the end of the season.

The short answer is that I can't see us being contenders this season. Firstly there are stacks of teams who have a realistic chance of getting to the holy land this season who are better placed than u, although there are a lot of clubs that if I supported them I would have serious concerns about. Secondly I think that it will take another season for PJ to get the team playing in the style and manner that he wants and we are defintely weak in certain areas of the pitch.

Personaly, after the dross that has been served up in the name of Ipswich Town over the past few seasons, and I'm going back to the last season under Royale( possibly with the exception of the half a season under Jim at home when we were unbeaten), I would be happy to see something resembling football as it should be and actually being entertained watching players who give a monkeys about the club. Just being realistic as i would hate us to go up when we are patently not ready, however I do see us at least around the play-offs all season.

It all depends on where we finish in the league next May.

If the team gel quickly and we can get a winning settled XI, I think we can go up! It's been 2 years of hell so a bit of exciting form this season (A 4-1 home win perhaps?) and the crowds will come back and the glory!

All depends on how the new players bed in though I guess gee

Cant see any further than West Ham and Leicester for the top 2 places. Predicting anything else is just to much of a gamble. As much as i would love to see us up there competing, I dont think we will for the following reasons:

1. Right Back - Carlos playing here is a complete waste of a talent. He should be up there challenging Martin, Carson etc for their positions. Yes he has done very well at RB for a while now, but gets caught out of position a few times a game and with the quality in the championship this year we will be punished. This area must be strengthened.

2. Pace and depth at Centre Back - everyone knows we need someone else in this position and we need someone with pace. Cant see Ingimarsson or Delaney catching the likes of Maynard if they beat the offside trap.

3. Creativity from midfield - Leadbiitter and Bowyer both great talents but greatly lacking a good creative midfielder. Keith Andrews is not the answer!

4. Formation - my first and only criticism of PJ (agreed he has done a great Job so far), I just cant see the top sides in this division going to Bristol City and playing 4-5-1.

If we sign a RB, CB and Creative Midfielder in the next 2 weeks and providing the squad gel, scrap everything i said above, top 6 all the way.

Peterbrough, Doncaster and Palace for the drop.

So excited about this afternoon, hope we start well. Here's to a good season (hopefully) COYB!
