Jewell Happy But Not Satisfied
Jewell Happy But Not Satisfied

Town manager Paul Jewell was happy but not satisfied after his side got their season off to the perfect start with a 3-0 victory at Bristol City which took them to the top of the Championship. The Blues boss says he’s not getting carried away by one victory, which was watched by owner and chairman Marcus Evans.

Jewell said: “We’re happy, we’re never satisfied. I think when you become satisfied, you become a bit comfortable.

“We’re delighted, it’s a great start for us, but that’s all it is. We’re keeping our feet firmly on the ground.

“It was a terrific turn-out of 1,700 fans, which was great, and it’s a start of a very long and arduous season, and we’ve got off to a good start.”

The Liverpudlian believes the 4-5-1 formation was the key to the victory: “I thought our system worked, I thought the three midfield players worked and Chopra was always a threat.

“I felt we were the best team for the first 20 minutes and then we scored the goal. I think over the years, and I think it’s been a trait of ours not having a winning team over the last few years, took back step and they came back into the game a little bit.

“We saw it out to half-time, then in the second half, once we got the second goal and then the third goal went in it was game over.

“As a manager you’re always looking for more, but I’m pleased with the effort, not just the effort of the XI but also the effort everyone’s put in since we came back.”

Bristol City boss Keith Millen was shocked by the result and also the goals his side gave away: “I didn’t see that one coming today. We did a lot of good work. I was pleased with the lads and their conditioning and I was expecting a better result and performance.

“When you look at the game, when you give three goals away like we did, it doesn’t matter how you do when you’re in possession.

“The manner of the three goals we conceded isn’t acceptable and we’ve got to put that right. Ipswich didn’t have to do too much to score the goals.”

That was an uplifting performance from the whole team. Today you earned your corn boys. A great big well done. More of the same please.

Enjioyed the game but it is obvious that we still need another commanding centre half. All corners from Bristol yesterday that were out of Stockdales reach were won by Bristol players who fortunately couldn't hit the target. May get found out against better teams.

We played well yesterday. Stockdale looked class act. Cresswell is going to be great fullback, loads of energy and quality. Marrtin played well, he looks a different played these days. Even Leadbitter was getting forward. All good to see at first game of season. City are a poor side this year so lets not get carried away. Great start tho.

other than still being suspect defending set pieces we were in control. chopra reminded me of a great white shark the way he was hunting the defenders for the ball. how james is still a goalie baffles me.

Welldone to Mr Jewell and all concerned for a great result today. However, I still think we should play a 4-4-2 at HOME. Just my opinion though - and of course PJ may do that!! Time will tell.

Really pleased with this start. As many have said, dont want to get too carried away yet, but things really are looking up now. 2 tough league games against Hull and a very confident Southampton. However, i see no reason why we cannot get 6 points out of these 2 games, and have one of our best starts for years! Dave Jones said today he would put money on Chops to be top scorer, and, i agree! Agree Churchmans to a point. It would be nice to build on the confidence levels and turn in a good performance as well as trying different players and resting key players from Saturday. Definately:

GK - give ELB or Pc a turn
Put Healy in for Bowyer
Save Chops and JET and try Scotlands, Priskin and definateky Ellingtion.

Hope fully we'll have far more to be excited about this year however let us not forget the excitment that the Cup run gave us last year! I can see your sentiment however the PR crowd need to go home happy as well to put us in good voice for Hull!!!
