Murphy Rejoins on Loan
Murphy Rejoins on Loan

Celtic striker Daryl Murphy is set to rejoin the Blues on loan for the season. The Republic of Ireland international was previously with Town during the second half of 2009/10 when a Sunderland player, moving on to the SPL giants for an undisclosed fee at the end of that campaign.

The 28-year-old, who was spotted on a plane flying south earlier today, says the move happened very quickly: "It came out of the blue really, I had a call from my agent last night to say Ipswich were interested and it was a no brainer for me really.

"I know the club and the area from my time here before. Some of the lads that were at the club then are still here and I know Michael Chopra from our time at Sunderland.

"I'm looking forward to playing for the club again and we will see how it goes from there. If I do well and the manager wants to extend my stay beyond the year then I certainly would be interested but for now all I want is to concentrate on is playing games."

Murphy, who scored six goals in 18 games during his previously spell with the Blues, is likely to complete his move in the morning.

The Waterford-born striker almost joined Town during the Joe Royle era, spending several spells on trial with the Blues in the 2004/05 season before signing for the Black Cats.

Town are also likely to complete the signings of Ibrahima Sonko and Jimmy Bullard tomorrow with the former Hull man understood to have completed his medical this evening.

The Blues say further announcements will be made tomorrow with news breaking both on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Stoke City central defender Danny Collins is again being mentioned in connection with the Blues. Collins, 31, was previously claimed to be the subject of a £1 million Town offer earlier in the month.

Wales international Collins started his career with Chester City, moving on to to Sunderland before signing for Stoke for £2.75 million in September 2009.

Would have preferred a Centre Half - yet another striker to play out of position I suppose.

Why? He hardly set the world alight when he was here before.

Started off well last time then faded a bit. Could be a good foil for Chopra though

I'm in complete shock. Good on him if he scores 10-15 goals this season, but... Bullard/Sonko I was expecting, but this... Why did we need him when we have 6 strikers already? Surely we'll need to offload both Scotland and Priskin?

He did start really well in his first spell and seting up afew goals as well. When Bullard puts pen to paper as well as reavealing Songo and Murphy on paper it's a decent side more than capable of finishing in the top six. Pj has worked very hard and deserves a lot of credit his heart is well and truly with the club.

Geeezzzz. .. That was kept quiet... Welcome back Mr Murphy :) I think that was a rather shrewd deal from PJ (In who I trust) ... Ok... we got CB issues, welcome 2 ITFC btw Mr Sonko... But when transfer window closes I really think we are gonna get 1 or 2 very good CB's on loan (better than nothing) Soon as we are more solid at the back... Surely (what with Bullard... fingers crossed)... We will have a strike force 2 be scared of in this league.. I've hated the last weeks results as much as the next man. I might be Optistic, but seriously believe we'll at least make the play offs this season.. Thats gotta be a bonus :)

Why? we have enough strikers unless scotland or priskin are off. chops, jet and the duke are all better

Are we going down the Keegan 'as long as we score more than we let it' route?! I liked Murphy last time he was here, but surely Priskin and/or Scotland are moving on now?

Still waiting to see who the 'Premiership' player we put a bid in for is... Or was that the Spl?!

Agreed Jewell deserves credit for snapping up most noticeably Bullard, and Evans, hard to question his ambition and commitment after this as we know Bullard will be on a good deal! COYB
