Birmingham and Coventry Eyeing Scotland
Birmingham and Coventry Eyeing Scotland

Scouts from Birmingham and Coventry were interested spectators as sub Jason Scotland scored one and created another during the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Leeds at Portman Road on Saturday. But the Trinidadian striker insists he wants to stay at Town and fight for a place in Paul Jewell’s side.

Scotland said: “I’ve worked very hard in pre-season, and I don’t want to leave here. I love this place, the club and the people.

“I can only do what the manager asks me to do, and to get this chance was just what I needed. But it’s not just about me. Everyone was working so hard around me as we chased the game.

"We have terrific supporters, and I’m just so pleased for them that we have ended a bad run,” he added.

Jewell says he is no hurry to sell any of his players but admits that everyone has their price: “Arsenal can’t keep hold of Fabregas and Nasri, so if someone comes in and offers silly money for any player [we’d consider it] but we’re not kicking them out of the door.

“I’ve said all along, every player here, as long as they give everything, will be considered. Whoever that is.”

Speaking after Saturday’s game, the Blues manager says he has been impressed with the attitude and work ethic shown by Scotland, whose Town contract is up next summer: “I have to pick a team. I see them every day in training. I see who looks sharp and Jason has done well. He’s been in and out but he’s never sulked.

“He’s worked hard, he’s knuckled down and today he scored a terrific goal and was involved in the second one.

“I can only pick five subs and you want people to give you problems. But tonight is the wrong night to talk about players going or selling them. I think Jason deserves a pat on the back because he hasn’t sulked he’s just got on with it.”

The 32-year-old was linked with his former club Swansea earlier in the summer, while Sheffield Wednesday were also said to be interested.

Jewell was keeping any developments regarding any further Town signings very much to himself: “There might be and if there’s any news, we’ll let you know!”

Scotland should stay but think he will go as Jewell will want to keep Ellington- who will probably never score a goal - a mistake to sign the 'Duke'

this has really made me laugh! everyone changes their tune, as son as scotland has a good game! priskin is much better than fat scotland, it makes me laugh how many fans change their mind, and pretend they supported scotland over priskin every time!

I agree with other postings. Scotland is a much better finisher than Priskin (who couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo!) He looks much sharper and gives us good options up front - either starting or from the bench.

Think Murphy is best serving us as a wide man and leave the 2 goalpoachers up front!

I would have thought Birmingham would be more interested in Leadbitter - they have lost Bowyer, Gardner & Ferguson

Scotland always gives 100% and in an awful Ipswich team last season still scored 10. Like a few others I think the duke signing was an odd one. He has done nothing for the last few seasons and watford fans were pleased to see him go. He has obviously done little in training to impress jewell so far. I think we all know deep down priskin will never be a goalscorer and will be off soon

Makes no sense to sell him. We know he has goals in him and if he's still hungry, as he looked on Saturday then why sell him to a rival? Makes me wonder what the logic of signing Ellington was really. Very similar players.

I think Priskin still has a future but if anyone's going to go, it's going to be him.

Scotland to start alongside Chopra at Blackpool

I have huge respect for Jason's contribution and professional approach, and I think that we do not value it enough. If our squad system has four strikers / forwards, then he simply has to be kept.

In our prediction game, it is funny how he gets overlooked for the big name strikers, but last season he was the first scorer on a good number of occasions.

Great attitude need more like Jason in the side. Hope we keep him his goal scoring record was ok last season in a poor side. Let Priskin go and Leadbitter.

Credit to Jason Scotland for working hard on his fitness, showing the right attitude and scoring a great goal Saturday. I expect if a decent bid comes in he would be sold though, as his wages will be high coming from the Premier League and he will be 33 in February. As others have written, Priskin would be number one on the list of players to offload.

Signing Ellington perhaps was a mistake, but he was a free transfer and I doubt his wages are much. Scotland cost £750K and is probably on twice Ellington's wages, so on paper Scotland should be the better player.

Scotland came alive in his second season for Swansea, not his first.
If he is given a chance, he will get us 20-25 goals this season. He nearly took Swansea up single-handedly 3 seasons ago.
Looked like a new signing. Always wanted the ball and created chances.

Before the start of the season I had serious doubts about Jason Scotland but when I saw him play against Eindhoven I could see he was lean and fit and very motivated. Nothing much has changed in this regard so he must stay in my view.

he's better than Ellington who he brought in in the summer. That was a silly signing

Love his attitude he might have me changing my mind about him especially if he can keep up the type of performance he gave Saturday.

Good on you Jason - as I've said many times previously - play to his strengths, give him decent service, and he will score goals.
Over to a GOOD Manager !!!! - one who knows how to play the man.

Unfortunately he may just have to do that away from Portman Road - if so, that would be shameful.

Leoipswich - don't knock Priskin, he is another very capable Striker who needs the right service - neither he, or Scotland have had that at Portman Road - but have struggled on with what they've had.
I know for a fact they would agree with this - TOTALLY.

Unfortunately Priskin is injured, so we will not be able to sell him in this window. If the club is looking to recoup some money from the squad it looks as though we may lose Scotland just as he is coming good for us. As for Ellington, he is doing ramadan as he is a muslim, this means he has not been able to eat or drink during daylight hours for a month, this must affect his performance. Will we see a difference when this finishes soon?

Priskin has scored 24 league goals in five years of English football, 14 in 2008/9 and just 10 spread over the other four seasons at Watford, Preston, Ipswich, QPR and Swansea.

Scotland has had a year less than Priskin in English football, but has scored 57.

If Scotland is sold, it may be a good thing if the money is spent wisely. Coventry have just signed 24-year-old Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham, where he scored 50 in 92 games, for £300K. If we brought in a young goal scorer from the lower leagues like that I doubt many of us would complain.

All our strikers suffer from the lack of a creative midfielder/wingers that can cross a ball. There is a reason that our top goal scorer is a midfielder. Some forwards style is to create their own goals ( lots of hustle and bustle ) others need a good service. Scotland is the former, Priskin is the latter. Currently Scotlands style is more effective and he seems to be mentally stronger than Priskin. Good to see his bullish attitude and that he wants to play.

this makes me laugh, ye were all sand bagging him for ages and screaming for his head .... he scores a goal and now he's a lord. God you lot are a fickle bunch

If he does go I hope the fans are kinder to him than sections of PR. He has never, or hardly ever, received service on the ground. If he did so he would score pretty frequently. TP, on the other hand, is simply not a goal scorer.

Wish he could be back to his old self again, because he was superb. Looks SO much bigger and quicker in this video. That was over three years ago though however and age has to catch up with you at some point. Still think Scotland still has a lot to offer though. Like many others I have often said I'd much rather keep Priskin but then Scotland puts in a performance like Saturday's and he changes my mind!

P.s. Goal at 3:35 carbon copy of Saturday's goal, satisfyingly against the budgies!

He holds the ball up well and certainly knows where the net is....if we get our passing game going especially at PR, he could easily finish as our top goal scorer. Lets get him enjoying his football again because a confident Jason Scotland still has a lot to offer..
