Corrigan Departs Hull in Wake of Bullard Contract Termination
Corrigan Departs Hull in Wake of Bullard Contract Termination
Tuesday, 30th Aug 2011 14:43

Midfielder Jimmy Bullard’s Hull City exit appears to have been as a result of an incident involving Tigers’ goalkeeper-coach Joe Corrigan, who left the club at the weekend. Bullard, who was suspended by the East Yorkshire side in July for a disciplinary matter during a pre-season trip to Slovenia which eventually led to his contract being terminated, joined the Blues on a two-year deal last Thursday.

Speaking after Hull’s 1-0 victory over Reading at the weekend, manager Nigel Pearson said: "Joe Corrigan is leaving us so we'll be looking for another goalkeeping coach.

"I'd like to thank him for his efforts. He leaves as a direct consequence of our incidents in pre-season surrounding a player that has left the club.

“You can read into that how you want. It's a shame for football that a man of Joe's calibre and a coach of his calibre feels he can no longer work here."

The Hull Daily Mail says 62-year-old former England and Manchester City keeper Corrigan’s resignation is related to what they call “a serious altercation with Jimmy Bullard” during the trip to Slovenia.

Bullard has until Wednesday to launch an appeal against the termination of his contract with the 32-year-old saying the issue was “in my lawyers’ hands” after rejoining the Blues last week.

Probably best not to speculate on the precise nature of this given that lawyers are involved.

No, it involved a guinea pig, a long piece of pipe and a lighter!

AmberAndBlack, if this was to do with Bullard and he has now left Hull, why does this Corrigan now feel he can no longer work for you. Doesn't stack up really, perhaps you can shed some light.

I feel so sorry for you. It is obvious that you have nothing better to do than go onto other clubs sites and slag off your ex players. Go away and get on with you drab Yorkshire life and worry about your current team and not ours!!!

Eeh, it's terrible that. Tough, we've got Jimmy, Hull's loss.

Actually, I monitor the NewsNow portal for Hull City and this News article popped up.

Also he may well be an ex-player but he is still likely to try and sue my club for wrongful dismissal. So, this is relevant.

I understand he is your player now, and I appreciate the "hero"status you give him, but you should also know what the guy is REALLY like. Ask yourselves this if your club had Marlon King playing for you, a convicted woman beater, would you hero worship him?

This transcends Club rivalry and banter. I am not here as a troll or even having a laff with banter. This about the awful stuff Bullard is guilty of.

Marlon King is hardly in the same ilk as Jimmy, in footballing ability, or otherwise. Poor comparison.

Who actually cares. Perhaps we could employ this bloke and we could enjoy half time entertainment

I'd pay up someone on a grand a week to make things look worse & strengthen a case against a bloke you want to lose on £45k a week!

Don't we need a goalkeeping coach???

I didn't say I didn't like a bit of banter now and again. Sonko comments were exactly that!! It's only harmless fun, you know!!

As for Bullard, that is a different matter and you're right I am bitter. But I'm not bitter Jimmy Bullard has joined you and is no longer our player. I'm bitter that Bullard is still taking the piss out of our club (as happened after he was offered a fresh start with us in the Summer) after two and a half years of taking us for £45k a week whilst on the treatment table and us getting relegated. Yes, he was entitled, given his contract, but that still doesn't make it right.

Jimmy Bullard is a con merchant, you will find him out when things are not going for him. Be warned!

Harry_Palmer added 17:14 - Aug 30
Like when we lost 5-1 to Norwich last season Rickster and he was still the best player on the pitch. Nice try but you can't pretend to be a good footballer, you've either got it or you haven't.

Two sides to every story and I would like to know what happened to make corrigon feel he had to leave but until then anything would just be here-say and rumour so nonpoint dwelling on it.

If I were a hull fan I would be angry at the board who offered the contract in the first place - not the ethics of him offering to take a pay cut or not.

Is it the same joe Corrigan who used to be in goal for Man City, because if it is he must be about 80?
