Collins Left Out of Stoke Squad
Collins Left Out of Stoke Squad
Friday, 2nd Sep 2011 21:26

Town loan target Danny Collins has been left out of Stoke’s 25-man Premier League squad for the season ahead. The 31-year-old Wales international central defender looks set to join the Blues on loan when Football League clubs are able to take players on loans of up to 93 days from Thursday.

Stoke’s official website says Collins, midfielder Danny Pugh and others have been left out so they can play football elsewhere: “[Manager Tony] Pulis's decision to omit a number of fringe players from his 25-man squad, including Danny Pugh and Danny Collins, reflects his desire to allow them to gain the regular first team football elsewhere by going out on loan.”

We shouldn't get too hung up on players' ages. We need the quality and experience to get us up, and then keep us there for a year or two. Fitness levels these days means that, barring injury, most professionals can play at the top level until they are 35.

h32 - sorry if this is rubbish because, as you said the other day, I clearly don't know anything!

jas099 - very old news; same post as other articles you've attached posts to. Andrews and Murphy are loans with a view to signing.

Collins would be an excellent addition, if he comes. He is YOUNGER than Gareth McCauley (just turned 31) and has 199 Premiere League appearances to his name, to Gareth's 0. Not a bad 'replacement'! And then add Sonko and Ingarmarson to that, we would have three excellent central defenders on board at itfc. Well done PJ/Clegg/Evans.

Spot on comments by ivorfeeling and stanwayblue.

In addition to what was said by ivorfeeling;

Rather than signing someone on permanent and then finding out that the player does not fit into the team, the loan window at least allows us to have a better assessment of the player.

PJ said he'd been talking to Pulis regularly about 'one or two players' in the Stoke squad joining itfc

I agree with norseblue we need these players with experience age does count for a lot. As long as they stay fit & injury free.

Ivor - it's best to ignore jas0999. He just likes to have a moan on every story printed. He's still bitter that "Roy" has gone.

If Andrews continues in his current form he will be signing for a Prem side - not us !

Jas0999 - I would rather Town sign a player on loan and find out if he is up to the job and have an option of buying, than payout large amounts to get him on board and then find out he isn't, Leadbitter being a prime example.

Think he'd be a good signing, could be a very good one.
We are building a good team that is now very close to being complete.

Murphy Chopra

Martin Bullard Andrews JET

Creswell Collins Sonko New loanee

Stockdale

Subs: Lee-Barrett, Ingimarsson, Bowyer, Edwards, Scotland

I think this is a line-up of a team that could do very well in the championship.
We have more options in the likes of Delaney, Kennedy, Leadbitter, Carson, Drury, Ellington and Priskin. I also believe we should keep hold of Peters as I think he is a good player as a winger, less so as a RB. Give him another chance!!!

DutchTownFan, I agree with most of your line up...but to have Martin and JET in the same team is a liability. Neither can tackle, would make very easy tactics for opposing Managers...attack the fullbacks. Both of these younger players need to up their overall game to deserve a place in the team. I would rather see Murphy played wide and give Scotland the other forward position, Edwards played wide midfield with a new right back?

Churhmans-you sound intellectually challenged, that means thick in your language so go back to school(notice there is no 'k' in school but there is a 'W' prior to 'anker').

Leave Wickham where he is. I really don't undertsand why Town fans get so excited about him. He has rich potential but PJ won't be able to unlock it with his limited managerial expertise.
