West Ham Keeper on Trial
Monday, 12th Sep 2011 22:43
TWTD understands that West Ham’s Czech U21 international keeper Marek Stech is on trial with the Blues. The 21-year-old is currently fourth choice at Upton Park and was close to joining League One Yeovil on loan earlier in the month.
Stech joined the Hammers from Slavia Prague’s youth set-up for an undisclosed fee in August 2006. Since then the 6ft 3in tall keeper has made three senior appearances for the London club, all in the Carling Cup, as well as coming on as a sub in the pre-season friendly against the Blues at Portman Road in August 2008.
The Prague-born keeper has also spent time out on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, where he made two appearances, and Bournemouth, where he made one.
Stech, who has been capped at U17 and U19 levels by his country in addition to his six appearances for the U21s, is unlikely to have too many opportunities at West Ham this season and is available for loan.
Earlier in the month, Stech played in a behind-closed-doors reserves friendly for Yeovil, who were interested in recruiting him as cover for their first choice Jed Steer, who is on loan from Norwich.
Town are on the lookout for a third keeper as cover for David Stockdale, whose season-long loan from Fulham includes a 24-hour recall clause, and Arran Lee-Barrett.
Former keeper Richard Wright has recently been training with the Blues but manager Paul Jewell has played down the chances of the ex-England international having a third spell at his hometown club other than in an emergency.
Speaking a fortnight ago, the Town boss said he is targeting a younger glovesman: “We are on the look-out for another goalkeeper, a young one to take us forward in the future because Stocky might be called back at any time.
“We are aware of the situation where we’ve got Arran and we might have Richard [Wright] as back-up, but in the long-term we need another young goalkeeper to take us forward and that search is continuing.”

I love the word 'glovesman'. It's almost as good as 'custodian'.

Wow what a quality signing this would be !!! ....... Give me strenght , 4th choice at west ham ? Hows about a right back instead ? Would liked to have thought Cody Cropper was our "One for the future" Mr Jewell .

Doesn't make the pulse race, I have to say.

I would have thought that a 21-year-old goalkeeper wants and needs first team experience though. What is the point of him coming here to sit on our substitutes' bench just in the hope (from his point of view) that Stockdale gets recalled by Fulham. I can see why we want him, I am just not sure why he would want to come here unless we give him clear indications that we see him as our number one when Stockdale's time here does end.
As for Cody Cropper, he is much younger. I suppose a season out on loan wouldn't harm him either.

Would rather we brought someone in full time and played them, stockdale is decent but he is never going to sign for us full time so lets build for the future now. If Cody is the future (lets hope) then play him now and give him experience. God knows with our back 4 over the last 2 months he's gonna get plenty of practice.

Do not understand the thinking behind this possible signing.Paul Jewel keeps saying he is looking for a good young keeper to take us to the future ? He seems to have forgotten we have one of the best young keepers around in Cody Cropper. Have a look at his talents and international status. He plays for the reserve team thats if we still have one? very good keeper, keeps his head down and gets on with the tasks at hand.Do we need to look any further? I think not!

All very boring.
Let's face it, we've never been a keeper friendly club where reserve keepers are concerned.

This has come about due to the schwarzer incident on sunday as it rammed home the point that we could lose stockdale at any point and probably will.We need a keper and we need a right back and we also need pace in the middle of the feild.

PS. I'd rather play for Yeovil first team than train with a load of middle-aged has beens. Happy Christmas, see you in January.

not being funny but richard wright could do a decent job sign him as our number two alb as number 3 and cody cropper as one for the future this bloke must be 4th choice at west ham for a reason because who else have they got other then rob green

Well that just about sums us up - going for a player who is fourth choice at a rival Championship club!! Sorry, but in my opinion we are fast in danger of becoming a joke. It's hard to know who to blame really .... but in my opinion besides looking for a right back, a good reserve keeper, maybe we should also be looking for another manager and chief executive!
JordyBeef added 18:52 - Sep 13
Yes please, get him in, richard wright would cost us to much money!
h32 added 21:41 - Sep 13
Crazee - we are a joke - very little, if anything, that Jewell does makes sense.
Not sure that it ever has either.
Problem is no one at the Club now - knows any better.

Tractorboybig:sorry my reply is late (been working) but I'm afraid to say i'm on the fence about a manager yes he has shown an amount of tacticle naivity and I feel the way he has gone public about his fallout with Martin is just wrong after the start he (Martin) made to this season.I think we may well have got a point from blackpool if we had played the following week rather than have an international break after the leeds game when the players were on a high and we could have carried the momentum through.Paul Jewell has bought in the likes of chopra,Andrews and Collins who would not have signed under the last manager and I think he was instrumental in the original loan and subsequent signing of Bullard, could you seriously see Jimmy here with roy keane at the helm.We need to give him time with this project at least the end of november then we will see any later and a new manager will struggle to deal in the january window any sooner and we may just be letting go our best manager since Sir Bobby.

PJ have a good look at this guy if YOU think he is any good or you can do something with him then sign him and feck what these morons on here say....most of them wouldn't know a talented player if one sat on them.....
