Edwards Pleads Guilty
Edwards Pleads Guilty
Monday, 10th Oct 2011 10:58

Town right-back Carlos Edwards this morning pleaded guilty to charges of driving whilst disqualified and without insurance at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court. The case was adjourned until Thursday when, after pre-sentencing reports, the 32-year-old will be sentenced.

Edwards was arrested close to his home in Kesgrave on September 26th after driving his daughter to school.

The Trinidad and Tobago international’s wife gave birth to twins weighing 2lb on Saturday at Addenbrooke’s with the babies currently being cared for in incubators at the Cambridge hospital.

Edwards, who was joined in court by Town chief executive Simon Clegg, cited the complications with his wife’s pregnancy as a factor leading to him drive despite his ban earlier in the year.

Prior to being taken to Addenbrooke’s, his wife had been admitted Ipswich Hospital on September 25th and was subsequently moved to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and then the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with Edwards spending much of the night at her bedside after the West Ham game, the day after he committed the offences.

cant believe people are supporting him ,,as has been said if he'd had an accident with anyone [a family member] it just adds to grief. So what ,if he plays for team you support,if it was me or Joe Blog's its jail, unfortunately even then sentances are not fully served .If ITFC feel they want him to stay with club thats up to them ,but he must face the concequences for his actions .End of .

there are a lot of good points being brought up in this and the judge will decide what to do but people bringing up what if he hit your family member need to grow up and stop being pathetic someone who isnt banned or has insurance could hit a family member or anyone else, so to suggest he might of coz he hasnt got insurance give me a break accidents happen every day at fault to good drivers or bad drivers or even legal drivers or illeagal drivers so get off the bandwagon that say what if he hit someone

Sorry but surely he needs to be put away for a few months. For all the driving issues then jail is the only thing left. He obviously takes no notice of what he previously has been given by the courts and thinks he is above the law, so an example needs to be made. He drove his daughter to school while banned, what is wrong with a taxi. What is wrong with booking it the night before.
Too many excuses I am afraid.
New right back for the game at Cardiff I think!

same old political 'lets let him off culture' in this country which has made this country the hole it now is.

Have I missed something? Report says he was arrested driving his daughter to SCHOOL - not rushing to the hospital? Clearly these are two very differing circumstances. Perhaps a taxi for the school run would have been more appropriate - no doubt the club would have helped as well.

However, that being said, let's just hope his twins condition improves and for that I wish Mr. Edwards and his family all the best.

It said on Look East News tonight that he's never passed a driving test. Tip of the iceberg probably, bet he's been driving illegally for years. Lock him up.

Yes, I would have done that.

No problem (I hope) with premature babies which take up no more than the palm of a hand. This is really not a technical issue but one of our human hopes and wishes for life.

How could you possibly fault him?

Credit where it's due, Simon Clegg has been at the wrong end of many a bashing on this website.

GOOD WORK SIMON, I'm sure that your accompanying Carlos can only work in his favour.

I feel for Carlos and his wife regarding the little twins, my 7 year old daughter was born 6 weeks early and was in special care for 15 days and she weighed more than these 2 put together. It will be a very worrying time and I hope they improve, get stronger and can eventually go home.

Regarding the driving offences, Edwards is an idiot, by the sound of the report he was driving his child to school, not rushing his wife to hospital or rushing to see her in hospital, there are NOT any mitigating circumstances and he deserves whatever punishment is meted out to him.

t w a t t !

on 15k a week he could a) got a taxi b) hired a driver for a few months

what sort of idiot drives his kids without ever having a licence

if he has never passed a test, he has no licence, and therefore no insurance if he hit someone, so they would up the creek

i think he'll get 6 months which will mean 6 weeks inside and the rest tagged

Carlos should be treated the same as anyone else in this matter. He committed driving offences and was caught. The way some people are reacting, you'd think it was his first time. When some brainless tool appears on the news with a string of motoring offences which resulted injury or damage, I hope the same support will be forth coming.

I'm not sure what an extension to the ban would be when he's already demonstrated that he'll ignore if he thinks he can get away with it.

Yes, his wife may have been in hospital, but surely he knew in advance that his daughter needed to go to school and he could have hired a taxi?

He was shown smiling, or was it smirking, in the footage shown by local TV of him leaving court a couple of days ago. Hands in pockets, only took them out to shake hands with SC. Strange attitude, but hey ho he is a modern day, overpaid professional footballer.

However, best wishes go out to his wife and two tiny babies.
