Cresswell to Get New Deal
Cresswell to Get New Deal
Thursday, 20th Oct 2011 11:37

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that left-back Aaron Cresswell is set to be offered a new contract. The 21-year-old has made a huge impression since joining the Blues from Tranmere in the summer when he signed a three-year deal.

Jewell said: "He came in at the start of the season from Tranmere and I told him to prove himself and then we would have a look at his deal.

"He's done great, there's no doubt about that, but I don't want him to get comfortable. We want to reward him because he's done well. He's a great lad and he loves it here.

"We're just looking to give him something slightly improved and I think Cressy has earned the right to have a pay rise."

A tribunal recently set the compensation due to Tranmere for the Liverpool-born full-back at an initial £240,000 rising to £520,000 after various milestone clauses.

This surely shows the youngsters that the short/smaller contracts do work.

If you get in the side or make a impression you will get your rewards..

I love players who give us 100 per cent commitment in every game and he is one of them. Good luck to the lad I say.

You do the work you get the reward, totally deserved and good on the lad, he's been a revelation for us a superb buy and a player who will keep getting better!

Pro's young and old should take a leaf out of his work ethic!

No it doesn't. A 3 year contract is not a short contract.

I don't agree with "by a distance". Chopra and Bullard have been equally excellent signings, and Sonko's barely put a foot wrong.

Jewell's done a great job with the players he's brought in, including the loan players.

Agree nastycat that Chopra has been a success also but he was tried and tested at this and a higher level whereas Cresswell was a gamble that has paid off big time.
As for Bullard, well I have yet to see the Jimmy that was here on loan last season and the number of times he is caught in possession is worrying. Lets just hope its a fitness issue.
I wont comment on trhe loan players (pretty much all have been outstanding actually) as they may return to parent clubs anyway, but often put in that bit extra as a loanee then flatter to decieve once a permanent signing.

Totally agree sonian blue...Pound for Pound and all things considered Cresswell has it for me and could go on for years at Portman Road. While the other players have all been great signings will they still be here in two or three years time nastycat?

Not sure PJ should have mentioned this,a tribunal will take into account the wages on offer, which ITFC initially set low and are now increasing.

ozzydog....am i getting something wrong or hasn't the tribunal been agreed? if so this contract offer has no impact

Ozzydog :- Surely the tribunal have already made their decision, hence the £240,000 rising to £520,000 on games played etc, !
Personally, I think he has been the best of a good bunch.

Yes it has been set but Tranmere were not happy with the fee.
What if they now argue that the wage level was set low to reduce the fee.

Just think that PJ should not have mentioned this.
At the very least it looks bad.

J.E.T. Take note! .....and not a musical one either! Commitment to the cause you are being paid for. Get fit, concentrate on your footy not rappy. Methink's Jewell is gooner come down on you like a ton of brick's soon if the fan's don't first.
Cresswell deserves his brownie point's. I just hope that now he get's paid more than you.

Agree with all the above comments, the lad has earned his new deal. I also hope we are hard at work securing delas for the loan players that we want to keep, plus sort out those who are out of contract at the end of the season.

I would rather see us get some income in rather than them walking away fro nothing.
