Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wednesday, 23rd Nov 2011 18:05

Keeper Richard Wright has rejoined the Blues for a third spell on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The 34-year-old left Town in the summer of 2010 when he was released by former boss Roy Keane but has been training with Paul Jewell’s squad for much of the time since leaving Sheffield United after one campaign.

Jewell says that his performances in training led to his deal: "Richard has been training with us this season and has done well. He has looked really sharp over the last few weeks.

“I know there were two or three clubs interested in taking him on this week so we've been speaking to him over the last day or so and I'm delighted that we've been able to agree a deal."

Ipswich-born Wright comes in as cover for on-loan Fulham man David Stockdale and Arran Lee-Barrett.

Meanwhile, we expect striker Tamás Priskin to complete his loan move to Derby County in the morning. As reported last night, the Hungarian will join the Rams on a one-month spell with a view to a permanent deal.

So this is progress, nothing against Wrighty, nice bloke and he has been good for us in years gone by but I can only agree some others, let youth have it's head and lets see what Cody Cropper can do

Lee-Barret is nowhere near as bad as some make out. Had two bad games for us. But Wright is probably a better option and there's no problem with him being in the squad.

Let me tell ya, Wrighty is on absolute peanuts unless he plays, and you could have much worse backup keepers. I think, all things considered, this is an excellent signing.

But yes, I agree with others, wear is the "growth of club" policy? Developing and building a team...?

Not a moan but does this mean Stockdale is on the way out or is it just back up? Anyway welcome home lad!

poobum an apt name for a pain in the proverbial.
Age not so important for a GK good back up at this level.

No problem with him being in the squad - BUT PLEASE GIVE YOUTH A FAIR CHANCE AT THIS CLUB.

It's just not happening - and I suspect won't.

i have no issue with wrighty's return . If stockdale gets recalled at short notice i would feel happier with wright in goal than lee barrett (no offence ) love the comment samwhiteUK made me genuinely chuckle

Excellent back up for when Stockdale returns or starts to perform like others in team. Welcome RW.

Not entirely sure how anyone can really be angry with this? He's on a short term deal, is a player who loves the club and will always give his all (something most people on here are lamenting the current squad don't do) for the team. He is a better standard of keeper to Arran Lee-Barrett. Cropper is not read for first team football this year, surely he should be sent out on loan to get experience and take over the second choice keeper shirt next year or the year after. Once Wright and Lee-Barrett have had their chances.

Can only see Wright as back up for ALB. Not a lot wrong with him. Beaten up by lots of people on this website despite being a good keeper. He got the blame in some games, when the defence in front of him gave him no cover.

Wright is from the past as far as ITFC are concerned and can only be on this short term contract as 3rd choice. Good shot stopper but has no commend of his area for anything above head height.

Decent signing and its not that old for a keeper. Mind you most of the town squad are old enough to get in my Veterans team! He will be good cover for Stockdale and Lee Barrett isnt good enough.

Also, is that Alex Bruce's eyes behind Wright in the picture?

Cropper can only benefit from working with Wrighty. After Cooper, he's been our best keeper.

Better keeper than Lee-Barrett. He was playing well at the start of last season under Keane. Maybe he'll prosper better under Jewell?

I'd still like to see young Cropper given a chance though.

None of them come close to Stocko though.

Age irrelevant for a 'keeper - witness Van Der Sar. If he's good enough, he's not too old.

Having said that we, may need all 3 keepers on the pitch if we continue with our comedy defending performances...

Always had time for him, a good keeper. Can't believe he's 34...where have all those years gone?! Plus he's ex Thurleston which is always a bonus!..

Only concern is that he is a reminder of the last time we produced a half decent keeper. What has happened in that area in the past decade or so ?
