Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wednesday, 23rd Nov 2011 18:05

Keeper Richard Wright has rejoined the Blues for a third spell on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The 34-year-old left Town in the summer of 2010 when he was released by former boss Roy Keane but has been training with Paul Jewell’s squad for much of the time since leaving Sheffield United after one campaign.

Jewell says that his performances in training led to his deal: "Richard has been training with us this season and has done well. He has looked really sharp over the last few weeks.

“I know there were two or three clubs interested in taking him on this week so we've been speaking to him over the last day or so and I'm delighted that we've been able to agree a deal."

Ipswich-born Wright comes in as cover for on-loan Fulham man David Stockdale and Arran Lee-Barrett.

Meanwhile, we expect striker Tamás Priskin to complete his loan move to Derby County in the morning. As reported last night, the Hungarian will join the Rams on a one-month spell with a view to a permanent deal.

Good signing PJ.At 34 he still has many years ahead of him and with his vast experience and undoubted ability he could be a good back up (at least) for a few years and help bring up some youngsters.
As with a lot of the posts i have serious doubts about Lee Barrett so i can only see the positives in this signing.
Welcome back Wrighty.

Welcome home Plug. Echo other comments that he's a better keeper then ALB and with him back I'm not so fearful of what would happen should Stockdale be recalled by Fulham

no offense to the man, but why are we taking him back? ok, he was a good servant for us, but his last spell with us did him no justice! people were slating him after that game against sheffield united, when we were 3-1, and his two errors lost it foe us in the last minute! we should really be giving cropper a chance, looks a good prospect! i don't think he's any better than ALB!

Agree with Gary, keepers get better with age, half keepers in Prem are older than Richard.
Welcome back.

Seems to make reasonable sense, prepared to warm the bench while Stockdale plays but will keep him on his toes, free, cheap, knows club, right experience.

doesn't make sense hiring a player who loves the club and would give his all he certainly wont fit in with the rest of the team

taylor15 As much as i think Cody Cropper will turn out to be perhaps one of Ipswich FC best ever goal keeper one day ,It is not now, He is still very young at mid 18. You say you do not think he is any better than ALBB look at the age difference Cropper has years of training to get under his belt. He will be be far better than ALB at his age ( Thats my opinion) Alb is not as bad as some people say he is just needs more real football and in my opinion a lot of players are lacking this?. Richard Wright will make a good short term first team goalkeeper,But only short term! Cropper ALB needs more games to progress maybe with other clubs or more time in the reserve games ? THOSE THAT WE HAVE. COYB

Welcome back Dicky, but disgusted at how Colin Healey has been treated.
Would have him in midfield over Leadbitter, Bullard and Bowyer any day.
Good luck Colin.

Have some of you forgotten that he was our player of the a couple of years ago ?
Good signing and cover for Stockdale. 34 - at least six years left at this level !

What can we read into this signing Schwartzer carrying an injury, PJ losing faith in Stockdale who has in recent weeks looked dodgy. Only PJ has repeatedly said he was not interested in signing Wrighty. Or just that Stockdale think his England chances will pass him by if he keeps shipping goals and wants to quit and go somewhere else?

Another Keane mistake and wasted money ,Wrighty should never have been let go and none of the keepers signed were better .
Welcome home Richard get back to the form you had a few seasons ago as i think Stockdale is struggling

Surco the last time Wright was in form was in the year 2000 eleven years later he aint suddenly going to start being a decent keeper again.Taking him back is as big an insult to this club as the defeat by Posh earlier this season

Reading into this signing all does not seem right with Stockdale? is he carrying a injury maybe? Time will tell. Does not make a lot of sense signing wrighty at this particular time? Could it be on the cards he may be returning to his club. Let see what happens in the next few days,? May be nothing ? COYB

Welcome back Richard. On a pay as you play deal, it's a no brainer regardless of whether you prefer ALB. Cropper will be great, but needs loan time really.

Poobum, as the colours of your avatar suggest, Wright is about 40 miles from 'your' club. Why don't you go back there? Is it because now that you have used the internet, they might hang you for witchcraft?

Lets not get away from the fact that our defence has been so crap that Stockdale has been put on immense pressure this season both at home and away. The fact that he has been MOTM a few times bears this out. Great to see Wrighty as support for Stockdale but we need to sort our defence out otherwise any keeper is under serious pressure!! Wouldn't like to be a keeper with the current ITFC defence and once Collins goes back to the midlands in 2 weeks we may need to play Stockdale and Wrighty to keep a clean sheet!!PJ you can't play 2 in goal so sort the defence out!!

Kerryblue rather unfair I fear..... wrighty was doing ok then Keane dropped him brought in flapper Fullop who proved even worse at crosses.... as a shot stopper ther are few better than Wright its just his aerial control that gives me the jitters, still much rather him than ALB.... goalkeepers are generally at their best in the later parts of their career, just maybe he has recaptured the form of his youth when he was undoubtedly the hottest English talent in goal..... and its only short term if he does well great if not he isn't on shed loads or here for three years... will slso be a great coach for the likes of Cropper..... I do fear stockdale won't last the season......

Kerryblue was Wrighty not our player of the season as voted for by the fans the season before Keane took over ? it was an insult by the club to him to get rid due to a couple of bad games behind Keanes shambolic guess work teams of 4 centre backs .
More of an insult to the club is the way the so called fans turn against everyone involved at the club due to some poor performances ,fair weather idiots
