Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wright Rejoins Town For Third Spell
Wednesday, 23rd Nov 2011 18:05

Keeper Richard Wright has rejoined the Blues for a third spell on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The 34-year-old left Town in the summer of 2010 when he was released by former boss Roy Keane but has been training with Paul Jewell’s squad for much of the time since leaving Sheffield United after one campaign.

Jewell says that his performances in training led to his deal: "Richard has been training with us this season and has done well. He has looked really sharp over the last few weeks.

“I know there were two or three clubs interested in taking him on this week so we've been speaking to him over the last day or so and I'm delighted that we've been able to agree a deal."

Ipswich-born Wright comes in as cover for on-loan Fulham man David Stockdale and Arran Lee-Barrett.

Meanwhile, we expect striker Tamás Priskin to complete his loan move to Derby County in the morning. As reported last night, the Hungarian will join the Rams on a one-month spell with a view to a permanent deal.

I love Wrighty! I'll never forget him on his debut, a skinny little lad, 17 years old and in sticks against Coventry if I remember (W)rightly! I think we won that game?

Delighted he's back and if he starts using a knife to butter his toast instead of using his gloves, he can go a long way, especially at this shoddy level of what was once the beautiful game!

merci

Welcome back RW! Great keeper. True Blue. Give PJ some credit for a completely sensible signing in the circumstances: young up-and-coming goalkeepers don't just grow on trees. Hopefully in the future we'll get one, but this is a great solution for this season at least. Personally, I'd have RW back for longer, but that's in the future ...

This is really good news. Another one of the unemployment register. The economy must be moving in the rght direction.

Would anybody complain if we signed Brad Friedel, or Mark Schwarzer? Still two of the best keepers in the game and they're 40 and 39 respectively. When Van Der Sar retired at the end of last season many people were questioning his decision saying he has a couple of years left in him at least. I think over the next few years we will see plenty of keepers still being considered number ones and into their 40's. So quit moaning all the moaners because he's a very good keeper, will hopefully push Stockdale for the number one slot and at 34 he's in his prime as a keeper (comparible to a 25-29 year old striker!)

while i have nothing against signing wrighty back, it has to be said, hes only marginally better than alb. & thats not because alb is a good keeper. in fact he gives me the jitters every time he plays. as some have said on here many keepers improve with age, but thats only if theyre playing. the problem with rw is that apart from his spell back here hes basically benn warming the bench for the best part of the last 12 years or so, thefore totally losing his sharpness. something vital for any keeper. hopefully tho, if called upon he wont let us down.

I'm affaid the negative response on here is justified... and those welcome home notes are sad.... I say put him in goal for the next game to see him flap and to prove he is as vulnerable as his last games for us....n watch us lose another 3 points...: (

I can't believe some of the comments on here. Some of you are clearly on the wind up or badly need to have a look at themselves in the mirror!

Decent signing to have as a back up, at least. No disrespect to ALB but I have little confidence in him and didn't in Flip-Flap Fulop.

I don't think we should read anything into Stockdale leaving or anything either.

Interesting that some of you have spoken about about fulop. I had fulop down as keano's best signing and was a little disappointing to see him leave. This however probably says more about keano's ability to judge talent more than fulop's ability to keep between the sticks.

He was poor in his second spell with us so have to ask the question 'WHY?'

Am i missing something here? We have just signed an experienced keeper as back up for Stockdale (which we were all concerned about) and he happens to be a local lad that loves the club and will no doubt give 100%, was player of the season for us a few seasons ago.. oh and is free and probably not looking for much in terms of pay...... And the problem you all have is????!!

He is not going to come straight into the first team! BUT if we need someone to come off the bench we could do a lot worse and speand a lot more.

No brainer for me!

Still the best English goalkeeper. Should go straight into the 1st team, and the England team.

Wrighty is joining because Stockdale is rescalled for Fulhan Christmas games and to give Swharzer some competition for his place in the Fullhan Team.

Cheers Stockdale, you done well but you're Prem and England and Fulham need you. Thanks.

at the age of 34, being a keeper, plenty of time reignite his career.....why not do it in the most familiar of surroundings? good luck to him.
