Murray Joins Swindon
Murray Joins Swindon
Thursday, 24th Nov 2011 17:20

Striker Ronan Murray has joined League Two Swindon Town on loan until January 14th. The 20-year-old is yet to feature for the Blues first team this season but scored two and created one as the reserves beat West Ham 3-2 on Tuesday.

Speaking earlier today, Town manager Paul Jewell said he was keen to get the Irish U21 international out on loan to play matches: “I had a call from them this morning and hopefully that will go through.

“I’ve been trying to get him fixed up all year because I think he’ll score goals at that level and needs to get games under his belt.

“If he goes and plays games there for a month it’ll give him confidence. He’s a great kid. He went to Torquay last year and got the odd goal and if he can go somewhere else and play it’ll give him a huge boost.”

Murray says he's delighted to be making the move: "I need to be playing first team football and joining Swindon is a great opportunity for me to do that.

"I know the manager has been looking for the right club to get me out on loan and he feels this is a great move for me and I'm really looking forward to it.

"Swindon are doing well in League Two and hopefully I can play my part in helping the club push on."

This afternoon's loan deadline passed with no further additions to the Town squad.

Poor decision imo.

Bagged a few goals for the reserves this week, a player that may give us something different up front, and BAM! He's gone for a month.

What a joke.

Our main choice forwards can't score so the young enthusiatic 5th choice striker plays in a behind closed door friendly against a reasonable West Ham Reserve side, he scores twice and sets up the third. What is his reward? a start in the first team on Saturday? No, it' a loan move to a lower club but don't worry he goes with The Manager's blessing and best wishes. I know who should be loaned out permanently and yes he is a couple of years older than the players! Jewell out before it's too late

Comes on against West Ham at half time with us 1-0 down, scores two and sets the other up we end up winning 3-2 and then Jewell sends him away on loan...That makes sense good one Paul.

oh dear, shut up wherescounago, stupidest comment ever. No I don't agree with him being loaned out but at the end of the day he needs game time, I would like to see Murray, Drury and O'Connor in the line up but Jewell knows better than us, he sees them in training and he has the information from the coaching staff

No one was moaning to high heaven that Ellington should have started the next game after his hat-trick in the reserves, why is Murray suddenly different? Because he has come through our youth system? Makes no difference, nothing to suggest he will add anything better than Ellington let alone Scotland and Chopra!! Scotland almost scored within about 7 seconds at the City ground and was probably our second best player, and Chopra is our top scorer!

Stop getting over excited about a youth player who's scored a couple in an awful level of football. I'm sure he could make but not yet, upfront is not even an area that is struggling right now, not by a long way a priority.

Chopra has 6 goals in a third of the season gone ,Scotland given a run will also score , whereas Murray has always looked a little headless when in the first team .Get him on loan to learn his trade in a proper league, can only benefit him ,if it is ok for the likes of Beckham etc its ok for MR Murray

Sensible post Garv. The only way he will develop is to get minutes under his belt and he wont get as many here as he will at Swindon. Hopefully he'll do well, score some goals, come back match fit and give PJ something to think about.

I like to see young players come through more than fossils topping up the pension but they need to be up to it. Same can be said for Hyam.

Trouble is many on here on a witch hunt now anything jewell does will be seen as a negative ..... like I said before its the supply to the strikers that needs addressing not the actual strikers..... a good opportunity to see exactly what this lad is capable of its a months loan he hasn't been sold!! I'm not a jewell lover at the moment but I refuse to join this total moronic Jewell hate campaign that seems to be brewing with some "fans"

Yeah it's a good decision, gives him the chance to play regular first team football...bringing him in right now isn't the time and could totally knock his confidence, lets see how he gets on at Swindon.
Chopra, Scotland and yes Ellington will score goals if the service is good enough, just don't think we're creating enough in games because I don't see our forwards fluffing endless chances..

Im delighted for him!
hope he wreaks havoc in league 2 and comes back match fit!

Thats one of the reasons he needs games, good thing with youngsters is they dont need many games to get the sharpness back unless your name is JET!

Another wrong decision. Should be pushing for the bench.

bluelady added 22:12 - Nov 24
Keanish its six weeks surely gettin first team action for that time is better than bench warming here?? We just can't create chances for the strikers that's the problem!!!

can we send the whole team there for 6 weeks to get some proper experience ?

saffronblue added 22:36 - Nov 24
Good move as he needs first team experience, with the service our strikers have had lately Aguero and Messi would be firing blanks.

He slowly seems to turning from Eddie Munster into Jack Branning from Eastenders.

Good luck to him anyway.

face it murray - you are at least 10 years too young to get in the first XI

You're all being ridiculous, as usual tbh. Everything Jewell does HAS to be wrong. Murray isn't going to become our number one striker between now and christmas so why not give him playing time? I'd rather he makes the mistakes at another club rather than in the hostile atmosphere Portman Road is whippig up atm. Too often we're quick to judge our youngsters and it destroys them, let him get some match fitness and if he's good enough he'll be in the team before we know it. Jewell did that for Carson I'm sure he'll do the same for Murray when the time is right.

Excellent move for him. Well done PJ. He'll hopefully get games and goals, and come back in January match fit and confident, ready to go into our 1st 11

Lad is not ready yet. If he played for our first team now and had a bad couple of games then our fans would destroy him. If he proves himself on loan this season then he may be pushing for a squad place next year.

Good idea. Move him to a club that are playing well and with confidence where it won't be as high a step up for him. See how he copes with first team football and maybe give him a chance when he gets back.

Our fans seem to think that every striker that comes through our youth academy is going to be the next Wayne Rooney. If you have a look at all the 'next big wonderkid striker' to come out of our academy in recent years, only Darren Bent has proven to be good enough for a team above our level, and I think we developed him perfectly and sold him when he had no other choice and got the best deal we could have done considering our financial state.

We developed Wickham gradually and managaed to make potentially 12m off him. That's the same price Ronaldo went to Man U for at the same age and the same price that Ozil went to Real Madrid for after being one of the best players in the world cup. You can't argue that it was a good amount of money for him.

Apart from that, Rhodes (touchy subject), Haynes, Clarke, Knights, Bowditch, Naylor, Logan and Neil Midgeley have never proved themselves at an equal or higher level than Ipswich.

You think that it will be good for Murray to be put straight into our first team now with ten tonne of expectation and pressure on him to score goals in a team low on confidence? I suggest you get another hobby because football clearly isn't your forte.

Bluelady - How many players who have gone out on loan in the last god knows how long have ever come back into the squad and got regular first team games on the back of it? I can't think of many if any.

Our side is crying out for youth and it's all going out to get 'experience' at other clubs.

That's 3 'youthful' team members out of the door in one day.

Priskin and Murrey gone - Doesn't leave us much cover. Chopra and Scotland our two first choices. What happens when Scotland can't play the next 30 games on the bounce due to his age? Who have we got, lets see -Donkey Ellington or Murphy the goal machine wizard! Agree that Priskin and Murrey may not have been too dynamic, but PJ should have brought someone else in on loan (Hulse - maybe not) before letting any of our strikers go.

So now there is no striking cover, midfeld cover or defensive cover - but we do have Richard Wright back. All that money spent - on what!

The West Ham reserves arnt anything special, yes Ronan has done well but as Garv said Ellington scored a hat trick and whats hes done this season?! besides, the loan is only until Jan so whats all the fuss about? he'll get a few games at a physical level under a manger who was a brilliant striker in Di Canio. Im sure he'll come back better! good choice PJ.
