Swansea Set to Move for Andrews
Swansea Set to Move for Andrews
Monday, 12th Dec 2011 11:12

On-loan midfielder Keith Andrews is reportedly set to join Swansea City from Blackburn Rovers once his spell at Portman Road comes to an end in January. The Swans are claimed to be willing to pay £2 million for the 31-year-old, who has scored eight goals for the Blues since joining on a temporary basis in August, although other reports suggest no fee will be involved.

Swansea and fellow Premier League side Wigan have both been linked with the Republic of Ireland international for some months, while Blues boss Paul Jewell has also made it clear he would like to keep Andrews, who has been standing in as skipper during Grant Leadbitter’s absence.

The Dubliner joined Blackburn from the MK Dons for £1.3 million in August 2008 and the League One side are entitled to 10% of the profit when the one-time Wolves and Hull City man is sold.

Meanwhile, defender Danny Collins, who returns to Stoke after Saturday’s home game with Derby, is again being linked with a switch to Wolves when the transfer window opens in January.

As with Andrews, Jewell would like to keep him at Portman Road but the Blues are unlikely to be able to compete with Premier League clubs in terms of wages and the transfer fee.

Collins, who like Andrews has 18 months remaining of his current contract, has admitted he faces a big decision when his 93-day loan comes to an end after the weekend.

Andrews is clearly a good player... but not what we need to be spending £2m on. Collins the same - although I'd rather keep him than Andrews. Both will however leave BIG GAPS, if they both leave

It is a great pity. both players have been outstanding and above all else perhaps we will sorely miss their goals!

Great!!! But not sure we should try to go head to head with them on a £2m offer, £1m at most considering his age and not exactly been a Blackburn regular.
I think we should look to replace him with a ball winning, holding midfielder as our defence definetly needs the protection.

Too good for us to be honest with you, shame.

And there lies the problem of building a team with to many loanee's.
Players put themselves in the shop window hoping something better comes along.
Shame, as his goals have been invaluable.

If we can't get Keith get trotter back here or buy Gio ;) or livermore :) as for Danny colins I think if you don't buy him your going to need someone decent to replace him because he has jelled with the team and we need another center half anyway ...

His goals have been fantastic, but what else does he offer? Between Andrews, Bowyer and Bullard our midfield has been anonymous far too often during this bad run. It is the key reason why we conceed so many goals. I'd rather see us lose one of the other two as at least Andrews brings goals to the side, but we can't continue to have so little offered by these players.

Leadbitter gets a hell of a lot of stick on here, but he never hides and works hard all game. If we are going to build on the Barnsley platform, we need more from our midfield. It's no coincidence that when our midfield were controlling games (the diamond), the team was playing well and we were picking up points every week.

lets see, there are a couple of other factors too here, will be play week in week out for them, he has said he needs to before the Euros....... i suspect a few clubs 'will come in for him' but i think hes got much more to think about that taking any offer if he wont get regular starting position...... id like to see a new holding midfielder come in and leadboots on his way and keep him as captain.......

If marcus puts up the cash keith will stay as he wont risk being on the bench elsewhere with the euro 2012 coming up.

2 millions for a 31-year-old is a huge amount of money. No wonder clubs get into financial trouble.

Andrews' goals have been great for us, although his overall play hasn't always been so good as we have rarely dominated the midfield when he played.

Let's have some new permanent signings lined up for January please.

spot on depressed.
Loanees are not the way to build a team, if it works they get snapped up if not they go back.
Havent done the maths but I suspect that without his goals we would be bottom three and what will PJ do once him and Collins have left...oh and Stockdale gets recalled?
A suggestion...pi$$ off please Jewell.

Hope that P.J is looking for a quality replacement for both today both will be missed but we must take it they are going, say thanks alot ,good luck and goodbye. They (jewell, clegg, evans) must be looking at replacements now though if we are to replace them with quality and asap no point starting the search a fortnight into the window.

Honestly reckon that Jewell will have matters in hand. He'll know whether either/both Andrews & Collins are likely to be here beyond January and he will have players in mind to replace them with if not.
I know it's not fashionable at the moment, but I believe in the manager for the long term.

Decent player however we need to be looking for a younger model.
Andrews pulled us back into the game on Saturday but was totally at fault for the Barnsley opener when he didn't track the midfield runner.
Still need a more defensive minded centre mid to release Bowyer, Bullard ect further forward.
Thanks for all your efforts tho Keith.

Will we ever learn our lesson from the loan system? As soon as you start to get a settled team, you lose your key players. They'll just get replaced with more loanees which will then take time to settle in, then theyll be off at the end of the season and we'll end up in exactly the same position this summer where we will have to bring in 13 or 14 players again, then next year we will get the same excuses when we are playing sh1t, "It's going to take time to gel" and "it's a work in progress"

I hope we don't sign him, £2 million for a 31 year old is a massive waste of money!
