Scotland Wants to Extend Town Stay
Scotland Wants to Extend Town Stay

Striker Jason Scotland says he wants to stay with the Blues beyond his current contract, which is up at the end of June. The 32-year-old netted his fourth goal of the season during Saturday’s 5-3 win at Barnsley.

Scotland said: “I’m just giving my all in each and every game, trying to perform well for the club and then we’ll see what happens. I haven’t talked to the gaffer yet but I want to stay and I’m enjoying my football.”

The Trinidad and Tobago international is one of 18 players whose terms are up this season. In addition to Scotland, Grant Leadbitter, Richard Wright, Mark Kennedy, Tommy Smith, Shane O’Connor, Carlos Edwards, Ibrahima Sonko, Ívar Ingimarsson, Lee Bowyer, Josh Carson, Luke Hyam, Tamás Priskin, Ronan Murray, Cody Cropper and Cormac Burke all have deals which end on June 30th next year, although some of those contracts include options for a further season.

Jack Ainsley and Jamie Griffiths have six-month deals, which are up at the end of this month with the former having been offered a new contract and the latter set to leave and currently training with Colchester United.

Further to that list, Danny Collins's loan is up after Saturday's game against Derby, Keith Andrews and Reece Wabara's spells with the Blues end in January and David Stockdale and Daryl Murphy are due to return to their parent clubs in the summer.

I'd be surprised if he accepted a reduced deal. He's a quality player at this level, a real threat as well. Definitely give him another 12months. His heart is in it, unlike some others (bedwetter).

Keep up the good work lad.

Jason is well worth another years contract I would suggest. Very fit again these days and although his goals to games ratio is not great, he contributes to the team in so many different ways.

His contribution this year alone makes a twelve month deal a must.

Definitely worth keeping ahead of Ellington and Priskin. Has started to look like a decent player of late and certainly gives 100% each game.

Give him a new one year contract, by the end of which he'll be 34, so given the firness levels of the older players now he'll still be good for us until at least that time.
The others I'd give contracts to are Wright, we need a 2nd/3rd choice keeper.
Sonko, when on form he's good, when he has a stinker he still looks ok.
Bowyer, a reduced contract, he's been ok this year but due to his age and performances I wouldn't worry too much if he were to leave.
Carson, because he's most definitely the next young star to come out of our youth system.
Cropper, possibly long term number one keeper.
And maybe one year deals to Hyam and Murray in order for them to prove themselves.

No, Scotland is an important squad member this season and I too would start him at the moment. My point is about renewing his contract in the summer and whether the money would be better spent on bringing new strikers to the club. Money will be tight, especially if the new financial fair play rules come into force. It will all depend on how Scotland does the rest of this season and then whether he will accept a much reduced wage deal.

Jason is keen to do well and obviously enjoys playing for us, I would like him to stay as I feel that his new found enthusiasm will be very good for ITFC

New deals for: Scotland, Smith, Edwards, Sonko, Carson, Hyam, Murray, Cropper, Burke. Prob all 1 year except Carson and maybe Edwards, Murray, Cropper (or at least an extension clause).

Possible deals for: Ivar (if we can't get a decent replacement), O'Connor (if he has any future at the club).

Offer new deals (on our terms) if we can't sell for reasonable money: Leadbitter, maybe Priskin.

Depends on the goalkeeping situation: Wright (assuming not on big wages and Cropper not yet considered ready).

Look to replace: Mark Kennedy, Lee Bowyer, maybe Ivar (see above).

I really hope we get rid of Edwards so we are forced to buy a decent RB. I think Hyam is leaving on a free at the end of the season same for O'Connor.

Scotland has done well, and was often made a scapegoat under Keane, deserves a new contract even if its as a squad player. People are saying he is on too much to sign up again , but Scotland is not stupid he knows no one else will be offering him his current wage at his age.
Im sure Scotland would sign on reduced terms especially if it was a 2 yr contract

The question is "Is Scotland working so hard this year because he realises he could well be out of a job in June at his age "? He was unfit for most of last season and has got himself in good shape which he and Town are benefitting from (Jewell getting the best out of him that Keane couldnt manage ) .Stay like he is now and i believe definately worth another year on reduced contract .
I would keep most of the youngsters and Sonko and Bowyer ,sell Leadbitter and Priskin in Jan if anyone will take them ,which is unlikely .

Bluelady - Jason Scotland has been one of our best players this season and is one of the few that does deserve a new deal. Simple as that. He is playing well and clearly wants to play for the club, those 2 things combined are enough reasons for justifying a new one year deal at the very least. Looking at our list, we do still have some good players who are out of contract in the summer. Players' contracts always become due for renewal at some point, just happens that there are a lot this year so get over it. I am sure it is something that Jewell and Clegg must be aware of, and Sonko and Bowyer both have the option of a further year.

llewej tuo - Pathetic.

The reason Scotland was poor last season is because he was playing as a loan striker for a poor team. Because he was put up front with another decent striker in a better team, the fans have seen what he can do, got off of his back, and assumed there was some massive change. There wasn't, scotland has always run around bringing the ball down, holding it up, looking for a pass and taking his chances. He's just been noticed for what he's good at since we stopped playing him on his own up front.

I also wish people would stop complaining about old players. So what? If they do the job, I'd have them in my team. In the year or two and a half we could have him for if we extend his contract, we will bring through younger players and sign other strikers, it's inevitable. Just because he's old doesn't automatically mean he's no good to us past the end of the season.

We need to keep the strikers as judging by the past 7 games we need to score a minimum of 3 goals a game just to get a draw!!!

Scotland is our one play that can hold the ball up and isnt afraid to have a shot.

Also why are people saying sell him?? He is gonna bring in what 400k?? You will never replace him for that sort of money. Sign him up, we will save money on contracts from Priskin.

As for Mark saying Sonko is a priority?? I dont think so, Sonko is passed it. He was absolutley shocking agaisnt Barnsley!!! How on earth they didnt score when he completley messed it up twice god only knows!!!

Yes he maybe better that Ivor but they are both passed it. Need Collins more than Sonko!!!

Scotland - out, Grant Leadbitter - sell in January, Richard Wright - out , Mark Kennedy - out, Tommy Smith - sadly out, Shane O'Connor - keep, Carlos Edwards - out, Ibrahima Sonko - keep, Ívar Ingimarsson - shouldnt have chanced on his fitness to start with, defo out, Lee Bowyer - out, Josh Carson - keep, Luke Hyam - keep, Tamás Priskin - out, Ronan Murray - keep, Cody Cropper - keep, Cormac Burke - shrugs, dont know enough about him. Andrews - out, Wabara - out, stockdale - no chance of keeping him sadly, Murphy - out.

Get Rhodes back next season with a pre-contract in Jan, and trawl lower leagues and foreign leagues for up and coming hungry players with something to prove. Especially an energetic midfielder who shows for the ball, solid no nonsense centre backs , a right sided Cresswell and a solid goalkeeper.
The main need is the central midfielder, we have to many lazy central midfielders who rarely show for the ball, Andrews included for 70 mins of each game.

radiogaga im confused... i totally agree scotland is worth contract, i said that in my post? I also agreed about the contracts, my point being last year it was a problem as we lost two key players for nothing, this year (leadboots aside) they are either kids or freebies we signed on a years deal so at the end of the day not devistating if we lose them (although would be nice to keep people like Carson etc of course). so not sure what your message is implying? Vic had made a comment on how bad it was we are in the same position as last year and i was simply saying i didnt agree.

You're an idiot!! Get over the whole Rhodes thing, so last year and you're obviously an arm chair fan as half your out's should be in's, clearly must be watching a different to everyone else.

Tommy Smith sadly out!! He's aweful, never been the same since the world cup.

Scotlands a very good player in this league yes 14 in 43 but it dont tell the true story some of those game he was sub got ten minutes and a lot up front alone which we all no his not ,but coming deep bringing others into play superb and yes his fitter got himself into shape credit to the man.AS for age Dean Windass and Kevin Phillips were scoring goals into the late 30's and even 40's today players arnt finished at 32 or 33 maybe ten or twenty years ago give him another season well worth it.As the Jordon Rhodes thing watched him v Charlton awful if he is as good as some people think lets see what premier league clubs go calling in jan i suspect maybe a scotish side but without being rude my nan would score v most of those sides.
