Hyam Set for Colchester
Hyam Set for Colchester
Thursday, 15th Dec 2011 07:50

Midfielder Luke Hyam is understood to be a January transfer window target of Colchester United. The 20-year-old has made only one appearance for Town this season and that came in the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton.

Former Academy scholar Hyam broke into the Blues first team last season under Roy Keane, and has made 12 senior starts and two sub appearances without scoring, but has failed to make an impact under Paul Jewell. Hyam’s one-year contract with Town is up at the end of the season.

Fellow midfielder Jamie Griffiths is already training with the U’s with a view to joining them when his contract is up at the end of the month.

Thought he looked very promising at the start of last year till he was taken apart by Derry in the QPR game and never recovered .
It is not just Jewell who never gave him a chance Keane dropped him aswell ,they both see him in training every day and if he is not looking better than the our other midfield players like Andrews ,Bowyer,Bullard etc in training who most on here think are crap then he is not good enough surely ?
Personally i would offer another year and loan him out to Colchester as i believe he will come good ,just not ready yet

Maybe, just maybe the manager of the club, with years of experience playing and managing and who sees the players day in day out, who knows them far better than any of us knows a wee bit more that us lot of armchair pundits. RK gavce him a chance and he did OK, but then for whatever reason he didn't feature again. PJ comes in with a clean sheet, but still he doesn't get put in the first team. Tells me there is something about the lad we don't know.

And for all those who moan about selling our best young things - please tell me how many of those we lety go have actually made a go of it in the championship or premiership? Only a handful.

Jewell has seen him every day in training for 10 months and clearly doesn't think he is good enough or adaptable enough for the team.

I really wish fans on here would stop moaning, just because he came from the academy. If he isn't good enough it shouldn't matter where he has come from.

As a DM role, he always seemed very lightweight and this was when he got exposed last season against more physical teams.

Hopefully a 6 month loan will suit everyone - he can gain experience and show Jewell in a competitive environment he's worth a place in our team.

If this is true then IMO its a big big mistake.
In line with most of the comments on here we are getting it seriously wrong with our youngsters, Hyam was a revelation last season and even got a big vote from Dyer in wake of the friendly with West Ham if I recall.
I assume 'vic' and 'tractorman' that you are happy with PJ's selections and the performance of our team?
Jewell Out NOW.

Thought he was excellent when I saw him last season. Looked a real prospect and a potential anchor of our midfield for years to come.

Criket, everyone get some perspective. perhaps he's just not good enough. Some players have good spells early days and we think they're going to be great but does not mean they will be a great plyer!

Other than Rhodes (who is still playing a level below Championship) name me a player that is making big strides that we have let go?

We all want youth to do well but if they are not good enough we have to let go! Ask yourselves why it is Colchester interested. Not like scouts are screaming about him and clubs queing up is it??

Another youngster with talent to be let go for peanuts. Keano gave him a chance and he did quite well. Why does PJ not do the same?

"Sonian_blue" - i'm not happy with the team in general in terms of performance clearly, but if Hyam was the answer he would have had a run by now.

He is clearly not seen by people a lot more qualified and with more evidence than us as not good enough at present. As I raised as well, he did look good last season, but as soon as we played someone more physical he got bullied too much so was ineffective in the one thing he was meant to be doing - protecting the back 4.

I'm all for youth, but they have to be good enough and the same goes the other way. Age shouldn't matter, it's just whether they can deliver.

Just because they were in the academy doesn't mean they are good enough. Send him on loan for 6 months and let's see if he can hold his own.

Wish everyone would calm down a bit. Read the sentence above again. It doesn't say we are going to sell him, so let's just see what happens eh?

Paul Jewell killed the kids career. with the rubbish in central midfield we currently play the guy should start every week. Give the guy a chance Jewell

Enough of the PJ sees him every day in training crap he wld not know a player if he walked round the ground with a sign on his neck - he is killing the young talent off one by one and the academy with it. And TARGET with this muppet means offer us a few quid towards the pensioners wages and he will be sold. And no tractor run crap performances by the oldies does not mean young players get a run it just means the ego in charge can't admit hes f***** up

Jewell is only considering sending him out on LOAN. Calm down people.

The whole scenario with this Club has gone way past the joke - even the most devoted diehards must be on the point of despair, if not they really are on another planet.

But, as said before, some will always be satisfied - maybe because they never knew our REAL Football Club, and therefore have nothing to compare.

bluedragon - ......... by an enormous distance too.

'go and support them then' - will be the next sad and pathetic comment from some sad and equally pathetic person. Bring it on ................
