Keeper Woe Continues As Cropper Picks Up Knee Injury
Keeper Woe Continues As Cropper Picks Up Knee Injury
Thursday, 15th Dec 2011 16:31

TWTD understands that Town’s keeper woe has continued with Cody Cropper having picked up a knee injury in training and set to miss out on a place amongst the subs when Derby visit Portman Road on Saturday. First-choice David Stockdale was recalled from his loan by parent club Fulham yesterday, while Richard Wright is still injured, although not far from a return.

If Wright isn't considered fit enough for inclusion as a sub, second-year Academy scholar Conor O’Donnell, 17, looks set to take US U20 international Cropper’s place on the bench against the Rams.

Republic of Ireland U17 international O’Donnell, who joined the Blues from his local club Buncrana Hearts in the summer of 2010, recently kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 FA Youth Cup victory over Leeds United at Portman Road but like Cropper, 18, is yet to make a senior appearance.

Boss Paul Jewell has already confirmed that Arran Lee-Barrett will start on Saturday with Wright, who pulled a pec muscle the day before the recent defeat at Burnley, likely to be closer to full fitness for the game at Leicester City on Boxing Day.

The Blues are unlikely to seek - or be granted - Football League permission to sign another keeper on an emergency basis with Lee-Barrett fit.

Two years ago, after Wright was injured at Cardiff, Town were told they couldn't take a keeper on an emergency loan unless they had no fit professional glovesmen.

Do we think Clegg remembered to put a clause into the loan deal that Priskin could not play against us on Saturday? Nothing would surprise me with my beloved club these days.....

ALB is fine, chances of actually needing a sub goalie? Can you remember the last time we needed one? I wouldn't bother.

Garv - Cardiff, 29th November 2009. Wright was injured and ALB took over. We won that game, only the second victory that season.

But Man City were allowed an emergency loan a couple of years ago, despite having at least 2 fit pro keepers!

I used to be house goalkeeper at school about 35 years ago. I'm more than willing to catch the first train out of Penzance if required

Cornish you are more likely to get closer to crosses in Penzance than ALB will in Ipswich.

Oh well, O'Donnell on the bench instead of Cropper...as others have written it is rare that a substitute keeper is ever needed, but I always want one to be on the bench just in case.

nysully - yes there is a clause preventing Priskin from playing on Saturday.

No one to blame here - there was always a chance of a Stockdale's recall - we just have to get on with it - there are bigger issues in the defensive unit to worry about first - like not letting opponents get free near post headers at corners

Hard luck Cody, hope your injury is not that bad.Could not have happened at a worst time ,with Stockdale's recall. Hope you recover quickly We are a bit weak in the goalkeeping department just now? ALB should be fine but needs to command the back players more?: COYB

At least O'Donnell will bring down the average of the team. Great to see Jewell give youngsters a chance ; )
