Blues boss Paul Jewell was still to hear a response to his recent enquiries regarding two transfer targets after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Reading.

Jewell, who previously revealed that one of the players got injured on Boxing Day, said: “You make enquiries and people mull them over. We have made two enquiries for players and we haven’t heard anything back from the clubs.

“We’ve got people that we’d like to bring in, whether we can bring them in in January or whether we’ll have to wait until the summer we don’t know. We want to bring in players who will be here for the long-term.”

While loanee Keith Andrews is very much amongst Jewell's January targets, the subjects of the enquiries are so far a mystery.

Reflecting on the Reading defeat, the Liverpudlian added: “We’ve played worse and got points recently and there are encouraging signs.

“If you look at the bottom line, we’ve lost the game 1-0 but if you look in between that, there wasn’t a lot between the two teams.”

I fear any business we do won't happen until the last day of the window

Although most business is usually done towards the end of the window I really hope we can get an early deal. Ignore the rumours, they're just what the press has heard in the wind, the truth will be when the ink is dry (and hopefully next time not through a plastic sleeve).

Well they probably laughed when they heard who enquired after them. joking aside we probably offered peanuts for the targets and the other clubs just chucked the offers in the bin. I do hope we are not going to pay KA ridiculous wage demands, rather we bought a few players and got some who were really hungry for success and not journeymen out for their last payday. Any chance someone will take Priskin and leadboots off our hands?

Not good - sounding all too familiar - just sign some players PJ. 8 defeats in 11 shows we desperately need reinforcements and NOW.

we will struggle to attract the right interest, it's not that PJ is a really bad manager, it's just we are not a very good club, we're seen as in decline, therefore potential signings see us as a step backwards, it will be more of the same i'm afraid.

I'm guessing the player that got injured Boxing day enquiry is Keith Andrews.

The player who got injured was Carlisle's Rory Loy. Broke his leg.

Indeed tractorshark - I was at Carlisle's game with Huddersfield and that was the fear that Ipswich would poach Rory Loy in the window, not exactly a prolific scorer but certainly puts himself about, runs the channels well and creates chances out of nothing.

I hope it isn't the usual damp squib January transfer window...days passing with no signings leading to a couple of loans in the last two or three days. Hopefully the scounts have a decent list of players by now, not just two, so let's make something happen ASAP!

PJ/SC & ME need to up their game when it comes to transfer dealings. Its like were half-arsed when we make enquiries/bids for players. If you make an enquiry for a player and there is no news within 24/48 hours then surely you re-contact them to see whats happening! I feel if we want to be a prem league side then we need to start acting like one and employ a person specifically for transfers like Damian Commoli or Brian Marwood at Liverpool and Man City respectively.

I actually agree with you.

I know actual football management isn't a computer game but how hard can it be to make contacts throughout Europe and evaluate players quickly and efficacy.

If we get aging loan players or has-beens then we'll become even more predictable.

And whilst I'm moaning which I do apologise for. If Leadbitter isn't going to sign a new contract put him on the transfer market now.

Please, please, please can we bring in defenders during this transfer window, stuff looking at forwards, we have to stop conceeding goals and losing games before we can even think about having a basis to go on and win games.

Who the hell would want to come & play here(after yet another abject performance today v forest) oh i know the usual mercenry 30+ knackered brigade or have we got them all, enough is enough for gods sake get our club back on track before it's too late even pj's ardent admirers must admit the wheels are well & truly falling off.

Let's get them in during the summer. That way, they'll be ready for life in Div 1.

What a muppett. No sense of urgency.
