Crawley's Tubbs Linked
Crawley's Tubbs Linked

Town are set to make a move for Crawley striker Matt Tubbs, according to one of this morning's tabloids. The 27-year-old has scored 17 goals in 26 starts and one sub appearance for the League Two leaders this season, having netted 40 times last season as the Red Devils were promoted from the Blue Square Bet Premier as champions.

The 5ft 9in tall frontman played youth football at Bolton, Bournemouth and Dorchester, making his breakthrough into first team football with the latter, before moving on to hometown club Salisbury in 2003, scoring regularly as his side climbed into the Blue Square Bet Premier.

A loan spell with Bournemouth in League Two in 2008 yielded one goal in six starts and two appearances from the bench.

He moved on to Crawley for £70,000 in July 2010 and was named in the divisional team of the year as his side carried off the title, his goals having played a significant role in that success.

This season, playing alongside on-loan Town midfielder Andy Drury for three months of the campaign, the former England C cap has continued his goalscoring form.

Crawley are reported to want £500,000 for Tubbs, who was recently the subject of a failed bid from former loan club Bournemouth.

The priority should be to improve our defense.

Definately worth a punt, i agree with WorcesterBlue that Vardy is probably the better striker though.

totally the type of player we should've been after since the start of the Jewell era.
lets hope all this comes into fruition and Jewell has seen the light and gets more up and coming players in and bring in some of our own youth. If he does that and starts playing proper football I wont feel soo bad about going down.

A link to a lower league player? HOORAY!!! Jewell has been in charge a year, yet only Drury and Cresswell were signed from the lower levels. We have to stop going for the "difficult" signings from the Premier League / Championship on high wages, and start bringing in players who are delighted to be at Ipswich to develop their career. Tubbs would probably be a good signing, although I wish he were a bit younger.

Miami Vice ??? ........ are there no other 'League of Gentleman' fans out there.
Surely it's got to be Tubbs and Edward(s) ...... "I can, I can't?"
