Town Could Accept Swindon's Murray Bid
Town Could Accept Swindon's Murray Bid
Friday, 13th Jan 2012 17:19

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Ronan Murray could be allowed to join Swindon on a permanent basis if the Irish U21 international wants to make the switch to the Robins, with whom he has been on loan since November. The 20-year-old's spell is up after the weekend.

Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio has already laid claim to Murray stating that he “belongs to us” but Jewell says that’s not the case as yet: “I have to tell Paolo that he’s our player! I think they’ve made an offer. Their chief executive [Jeremy Wray] has put something to Simon Clegg, but I haven’t really looked at it yet.

“I’m really pleased for Ronan that he’s gone out and is playing football. He’s a great lad, he’s had limited opportunities here and if he wants to go to Swindon and we can do something to make it happen, we’ll give Paolo his wish.”

Jewell also revealed that Jaime Peters was close to a loan switch to SPL side St Johnstone until red tape held up his move: “I spoke to Steve Lomas at St Johnstone but he’s got that three-club cross-border thing — he was at Bournemouth and he played for us against Northampton. That means he can’t go abroad to play for another club and Scotland is a move across a border.”

The Blues boss confirmed that the Canadian international will be allowed to move on to other Football League clubs on loan.

He's no Jordan Rhodes, but I agree it's disappointing that he's not had much of a chance here

No please PJ these hungry youngsters should be groomed to play senior team football in the near future, not selling them away! Wats with ur brain? Lamenting a lack of youth and yet plans to ship out our own youngsters for BPL has beens at outrageous wages???

I don't think Ronan is Jordan Rhodes. But why are we offloading players who we might well need next season, if the worst happens and we do get relegated? Seems daft.

If Jewell hasn't looked at the bid yet, should he be saying we will grant Di Canio his wish? Isn't a better negotiating position to say he don't really want to sell to try to push the price up?

I don't mind selling Murray as he isn't the quality of Rhodes, but may become a decent player at a lower league level. However, if we sell I would like us to sign a new young striker to replace him!!

This is just pathetic, I'm not saying Murray is a world beater but he would have had more of an impact than Ellington this year, is on significantly lower wages and may have actually enhanced his value.

Why say we want young, hungry players when we have one and let them go to the elagues we should be scouting.

Long Term plan my arse

Jewell - just go now, before the club is completely ruined

If this happens I've lost all hope. He's exactly the kind of player we should be building with for the future. Why is Ellington, a player who has no impact as a sub the whole season, playing in place of a young hungry goal scorer like Ronan? Unreal.

Not fussed if the money is reasonable, he's no Rhodes. Bring in Tubb's

For goodness sake, I give up on ITFC. Absolutely PATHETIC.

I don't understand Jewell. One minute, he tells us he wants us to have a team including lots of young and hungry players, and then the next he is happy to let this lad leave. He is blatantly very talented and I've seen enough to see that this will be a big mistake in years to come. Bad bad move, utter rubbish

Once described as the best finisher at the club but never given a chance.

Says it all about current management. And still he selects Ellington.

Calm down. If he was that good he would be in the squad, clearly he isn't up to it here.

I'm with you gcasselton1
Seems Jewell wouldn't know 'building for the future' if it came up and kicked him in his fat butt. what hope have any of the youngsters got with him in control.

Jewell just f**k off now. No he's not a Rhodes type player but I'd put a tenner against a dog biscuit that he'd be more beneficial than Ellington. Just go pj and stick to your home videos as you are clearly clueless at running a football club.

Kearney said he is was the best natural finisher at the club, if we keep selling our young prospects we are stuffed. Crazy

J4ck22 - because these coaches are completely clueless! Yes he needs time but Chopra, Ellington, Murphy and JET are hardly hitting the back of the net are they so this lad should be given a go. As to Matt Tubbs - people are deluded!
