Duo Offered New Deals
Duo Offered New Deals

Boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the Blues are offering striker Ronan Murray and midfielder Luke Hyam new one-year deals. Town have turned down Swindon’s offer for Murray, the 20-year-old having returned from his successful loan spell at the County Ground earlier in the week.

Jewell told the club site: "Ronan enjoyed his time at Swindon. They did make a bid for him but we have rejected it and he's now back with us.

"I have spoken to Ronan and Luke and we'd like to keep them here beyond the summer. We're in the process of offering them new contracts for another year and we'll see how things develop."

Irish U21 international Murray has made one start and eight sub appearances for the Blues, scoring one goal, while 20-year-old Hyam, who made his first league start under Paul Jewell’s management at the weekend, has made 14 starts and two sub appearances at senior level.

Agreed Sindre, but why only a year? Surely an option of a second? What happens if they do well next year, we'll lose them for free next summer :(

Agree bleedingblue, if he thinks there worth offering a contract to, surely a 2 year contract should be on the table. Can see both these boys walking away (hope not though)

If they turn down the offers we will get compensation when they leave in the summer, if they sign the contracts then great, win win!!

Good news.
This is in line with what PJ stated about Leighton Baines at Wigan....'Work hard and you'll get a better deal'.
It is also in line with his 'Young and hungry' statement.

Delighted.

Should be at least a 2 year contact for both players.
I hope they sign the year we need the young talent!!

Does anybody know if we get extra compensation for offering them a longer or more lucrative deal and they say no? Wasn't moaning above just think it's worth safeguarding our young lads. Clever move by Jewell offering Murray a deal so he can bargain with Swindon over Ritchie?

This is more like it, shame it has taken PJ a year to wake up and smell the coffee!!!
Mind you the man who has never made a mistake made nothing.
Btw it wouldn't of hurt to offer two to three year deals but perhaps he does not want players to get into a comfort zone ie Bullard and wherever he has been after he left us if you gave Shefki kuqi a long contract he turned into sh!te overnight.

One year! That might be a tad lengthy.....wouldn't blame either of them if they went elsewhere.

WHY ONLY 1 YEAR that's stupidity itself and they wonder why players are walking away

BLUEBEAT added 07:18 - Jan 18
they should look at Cresswell and understand that if they perform/impress, they will be offered improved deals

Come on Cleggy, give them two year contracts, there wages are hardly likely to break the bank if they fail to perform.

It's great that Hyam did so well last match, but before that he looked on his way out, and Murray hasn't been a roaring success either. One year deals are probably sensible as it will keep the players hungry and we can reward them with longer and better deals if they do well. O'Connor was given a 2-year contract and look what happened to him! It's right that Carson is offered a longer deal though on the basis of good first team appearences. They have to earn it.

Mark spot on, they can be offered longer deals at any point.... they will probably be told play well, prove yourselves and we will offer you better deals. Keep them hungry.... neither are indispensable.

I think this is about right for both of them. it is also shows that Paul Jewell is sincere in his belief that if you prove yourself you will be rewarded. Aaron Creswell has earned his right to improved terms and now it is up to these two to do the same!

Common sense prevails.
JET, Chopra, Scotland and Murray...
Ellington to leave.

Looks like we'll be in for a target man and a natural goal scorer either this window or the summer.

good news! come on boys sign up all about next yr!
Why only 1 yr contract though? I thought we anted to avoid so many peoples contracts all being up at end of every season. Hopefully they'll both do well and get extension half way through season.
Just hoping they both sign now

Keane-Ish-what about murphy!
And on the subject of getting more youngsters in I think we need a few more aswell as the ones we have targeted as otherwise we are going to have a good strong team full of youngsters(with the few older ones) and a veterans bench you normally want some fast pacy people to change the game abit!

Can we also give them a game because it wouldnt hurt to at least have Murray on the bench for times like at the end of the B'pool game because he would have caused more problems than Priskin.

Am I right in saying that Ainsley signed a 6 month deal in the Summer and has now been given 18 months/2 years? I think that should be inspiration to these lads- as well as the Cressie situation, that if you work hard then you will get rewarded. HOWEVER, why, oh why, did Ellington get 2 years. Totally MAD!

Cricket u lot are hard to please, he offers the youth deals and u still complain !

Paddyblue83 added 08:26 - Jan 18
Nice to see young guys being offered conttracts but surly it would be worth while to offer them a 1 year contract with a 1 year contract extension depending on first team apperances.

DiamondGezzer added 08:28 - Jan 18
By the sound of it, the option clause is pretty standard in their contracts now. Sign up chaps !

Good news, agree with the one year deals, They now have to impress and start to push forward.
Jewell has proved in the past that they will get better contracts if they do improve as Cresswell has did.

Would like to see Murray and Hyam on the bench as regular subs at a minimum.
Would use Murray instead of Ellington. would like to see Hyam along side Bowyer to learn his trade. Dont think he is better than Bullard and Bowyer so will be hard for him really to break in to the team
