Town Bid Rebuffed
Town Bid Rebuffed
Wednesday, 18th Jan 2012 18:28

Sky Sports are now reporting that it's Town who have had a double bid for Joel Ward and Jason Pearce (left) turned down by Portsmouth. Earlier, the satellite broadcaster was erroneously reporting that Watford were the club involved.

Given Portsmouth's current off-field issues, the Blues are likely to have gone in relatively low with their initial bid, perhaps around £1 million. They may now look to increase their offer but probably not by any huge amount at this stage.

Portsmouth’s current situation is complicated with their parent company Convers Sports Initiatives in administration, but with Sicilian-American businessman Joseph Cala set to complete a takeover, perhaps before the end of this week.

With the change of ownership so close, it appears unlikely that Pompey would sell players at this stage.

However, Cala has already stated his intention to cut the wage bill once his takeover is complete, which may suggest that the Hampshire club may ultimately be willing to accept some offers, although Ward and Pearce are unlikely to be amongst the higher earners.

Yesterday, TWTD broke the news that the Blues had made offers for the Pompey pair.

Sounds similar to what Charlton did to us when we hit the financial rocks.

Up the bid and get them in!

You'd have thought there would be lots of bargains out there with Ipswich being one of the few clubs with any money to spend at the moment. As hampstead blue wrote, when we were in financial trouble our stars such as Hreidarsson, Holland and Stewart all went for the low-hundred-thousands.

You would imagine that these 2 are not the high earners at Portsmouth either- Cannot see this happening unless the takeover with ''a sicilain- American businessman'' does not happen. Their new owner sounds more dodgy than The Duke who nearly bought Town

Let's scrap this & go for the original two at Swindon. Prefered the sound of them. Then get Sharp a CB.

Here we go again, another excuse against another transfer. This lot are just a waste of time. If you want a player you bid and make sure it's enough. Then you welcome the player to Portman Rd and get them to sign on the dotted line. Recently with this lot in charge it's so difficult.

When Burley was manager and Sheepshanks in charge Burley had support and the player was in. NO PROBLEM.

Now it's one non event and the position in the league is down to poor ownership and management.

Listen??? I will say this only once. If you're passionate to take this club forward put your money where your mouth is and just get us players who want to play for us and make us proud.

Enough said.

First bids are usually declined for no listed players.

If youre first bid is accepted...... then you offered too much!!

At least its confirmed that we've bid for some promising young talent.
They were always going to say no to the first bid so lets get back in and negotiate. With around 2 weeks to go in the transfer window its now time for Clegg to show why he is employed at this club.tick tock tick tock.

In the Summer PJ said we only make one bid and that's it. No wonder we didn't manage to negotiate many fees. This is disappointing - over half way through the transfer window and only one loanee keeper signed. No surprise with Clegg and PJ involved. It will be unacceptable if we go to Leeds without a new CB. PJ OUT!
