Experimental Price Cut for Middlesbrough Clash
Experimental Price Cut for Middlesbrough Clash
Thursday, 19th Jan 2012 11:05

Town have reduced prices for the home game with Middlesbrough by 25% in what they describe as “a major ticketing trial”. Fans have been critical of high matchday prices for the last few seasons.

Adult prices for the match on Saturday 11th February have been set from £20, the lowest matchday price since the 2004/05 season.

Chief executive Simon Clegg says the initiative is an experiment which could have a bearing on next season’s prices: "Gate receipts are a vitally important revenue stream and the ticket office manager and I spend a lot of time trying to maximise these to decrease the gap between over-expenditure and income.

"The Middlesbrough game is a deliberate trial to measure the effect on volumes and revenues. I hope that many Town fans will take up this great offer as it could influence our thinking on future ticket pricing strategy."

Ticket office manager John Ford added: "These will be our cheapest League prices for seven years and I hope the supporters will take advantage of what we think is a fantastic offer."

As a ST holder I have no complaint about this scheme, however it will have limited impact as the main reason for the poor gates is the total, utter tripe being served up on the pitch and its not just this season, many ST holders are like me and don't bother going now and it would take vastly improved performances to tempt me and those like back, the biggest worry is that the majority of us will not renew our tickets and will hit next season's team building.

Good news that. Regardless of what some prats on here say, being a season ticket holder doesn't make them more of a 'true blue' than supporters who can't make every game.

I myself have to work every other saturday so I can't get to all the games anymore. I'm still more of a 'true blue' than most mind.

@IP3, sadly you have tried to weigh in on the topic with what you feel is a well thought out argument and failed entirely - "moaning about season ticket prices, no-one forced you to buy one" - some of us are true Town fans who will want to go to Portman Road every game and watch our team regardless of the results or off the field 'issues' surrounding managers/transfers etc. We are hardly going to buy 23 individual match day tickets for each league game every time we go, so our choice is buy a season ticket or not go. Whilst your support of the TWTD comment box is appreciated, please consider more fully your point of view before embarrassing yourself. Cheers

I pay for 2 STs every year and agree that I can't complain about this. My choice to buy - nobody made me do it.

Be nice to see a 25% increase in quality on the pitch to match though....

As a season ticket holder, very happy with your comments.

Re the season ticket argument, aren't season ticket holders still paying less for an equivalent seat than those buying matchday tickets? There's been a huge increase in the disparity between season tickets and matchday tickets in recent years, which hopefully is something club is now seeking to address.

Im a season ticket holder and couldnt give a monkeys if tickets for this game are being slashed by 25% . For those ST holders who are moaning that it doesnt benefit them , do the maths , it only works out as pennys that we are paying extra FOR 1 GAME . The most important thing is to get the message out to the public and fill the ground as much as we can . YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU !!!

A bit like juggling the chairs on the Titanic - a duff team (and management) = lower gates.

How about paying us to turn up?

They haven't said it, but if you buy loads of beer and pies, they will be interested in keeping prices down because they know that tickets are not the only source of income on a matchday
