Wright Due Back From States Later This Week
Wright Due Back From States Later This Week
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 10:50

TWTD understands that keeper Richard Wright will fly back from his trial with Dallas FC later this week, well in time to be amongst the Blues’ subs against his old club West Ham at Portman Road next Tuesday. As revealed on Saturday, third-choice Wright, 34, flew to the US earlier that day to hold preliminary discussions about a possible move to the MLS side.

Wright, who has been left out of the matchday 16 since Alex McCarthy’s recruitment on loan, is required for the game against the Hammers due to the Reading man’s red card at Leeds on Saturday.

McCarthy faces a one-match ban with Arran Lee-Barrett set to start against Sam Allardyce’s side. Fourth-choice Cody Cropper is not yet back from the knee injury which required surgery before Christmas.

Former England keeper Wright, who is understood to have a clause in the short-term contract he signed with Town in November which allows him to move on if another club comes in for him, was always expected to spend only a few days talking with the Texas-based club and will fly back as planned.

The ex-Arsenal and Everton man, who has made only one appearance during his third spell with Town, is believed to be keen on continuing his career in the US.

If Wright does move on, the Blues are likely to target another senior keeper as cover for McCarthy and Lee-Barrett, either before the transfer window closes next week or on an emergency loan basis when that option is available a week later.

Should be back and in the starting 11 not on the bench. Wake up PJ, put ALB on the bench and send McCarthy back to Reading to learn there not here!
Doesn't matter how many keepers you keep getting in Jewell if the defense is shot to bits (Cresswell excluded)! SORT IT OUT!

Nothing short of a ton of bricks from Jewsons would protect our goal, the way our defence is. I don't just blame the backs, the midfield players are leaving them exposed time and time again.

... or perhaps PJ should sign a PERMANENT new keeper?

Jewell can't seem to make up his mind as to what the pecking order of his goalies is.

In my view, Stockdale's recruitment was a gamble which did not pay off. I thought it was justified at the time, and I don't criticise him for it. He had been in England squads, and came from a decent Premier league side with a regular keeper keeping Stockdale out.

McCarthy's recruitment however, shows that Jewell has learned nothing from the Stockdale situation. We are now in a situation where we obviously need stability between the sticks, not some second or third choice from Reading who may be off at any moment, and who has shown himself so far to be at first poor, and then reckless. Any average league one goalie with a cool head, and we would have had 3 points yesterday.

The situation is a joke. Get a grip, and get a defence.

Bergholt you can't blame the midfield for goals that come from long balls over the top that our defenders aren't getting thier heads on. It's school boy defending the way our centre halves let the ball bounce without getting thier head on it. It's just basic defending that every centre half should be able to manage.

Yep. Perm keeper in the window or wright to start. We've had three inexperienced keepers this season. Three too many.

If ALB is in goal against the Hammers heaven help us. A number 3 at best if you discount McCarthy.

Have we the most clueless set up in footie? We must be a laughing stock. We should try for gordon from sunderland & send reading back their 3rd choice keeper. Paddy mccourt available at celtic now there is a player to put bums on seats at portman road.

Agree Wrighty should be our number 1 keeper. IF we are going to keep McCarthy please can we appeal his red card and get it thrown out as a frivilous appeal as he would then be suspended for longer,he's the worst keeper we have had this season.

As injury prone as he is, lets just hope Wright doesn't get injured in the trial !

Never mind folks we are making progress, right Mr Clegg?
We have a Reading number three keeper as our number one keeper! Sums it all up really!
Progress?
Still we have lovely fresh painted turnstyles that we can admire on our way in to portman road. Pity we don't have a team and manager that we can admire!!!

I think we could do a lot worse that have wright back as our first choice keeper. A few first team games could well give him back the kind of confidence that made him such a great keeper before. Plus with the experience he has, he could be one to help organise our back four. A permanent local signing that has already had success with this team should be able to command more respect than a loan who is only here for a few matches.

I really dont what to think anymore about this club i love ; from the chairman down its just one huge shambles;is there some sort of gambling thing going on at the club? Its the only explanation i have for all these loses in the last quarter of the match or we are just plain awful?
