Portsmouth Set to Hold Player Sales Talks
Portsmouth Set to Hold Player Sales Talks
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 11:28

Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton says he is expecting to hold talks with chief executive David Lampitt regarding player sales with Pompey subject to a winding up order over unpaid PAYE totalling £1.6 million. Last week, the Blues made a bid believed to be £1 million for Jason Pearce and Joel Ward (pictured) with a second offer appearing certain in the next few days if one hasn't already been lodged since Saturday.

Appleton, who admitted he knew nothing about the winding up order until seeing weekend newspaper reports, says he anticipates speaking with Lampitt regarding the sale of players: “I’m expecting that conversation to come now, having been told the news. If that’s the case we have to deal with it and we’ll deal with it and then see where we are."

Over the weekend there were reports that Leicester had joined Town in chasing Pearce and Ward, but the Pompey boss says he’s not aware of any approach from the Foxes so far: ”I’ve not heard anything but they have a few quid and they seem to be in for everyone.

“It wouldn’t surprise me in any way, shape or form if they did come knocking for them in the coming days.

“It’s not welcome but I could understand clubs thinking there’s an opportunity to pick up players. We’re in financial difficulties.”

In addition to the Blues’ move for Pearce and Ward, Newcastle United have been linked with Portsmouth keeper Stephen Henderson.

Come on town. Stop farting about and put in a 1.6 million bid. That would give them something to think about.

If Leicester are in the hunt thats probably the end of our interest after all where would you rather go at this present time. Only consolation is that it may free up St. Ledger but then will he come now with our precarious position ? All very very depressing.

Why do Leicester need another centre half and aren't they in for Morgan?
Sounds like lazy speculation to me!

Let's not leave this until the 11th hour and get pipped eh Clegg?
Time to earn your corn and repay a bit of faith!!

Let's face it, if there are other clubs chasing their signatures, they wouldnt want to join us - battle for survival at the bottom of the league & prospect of playing League 1 football next season & uncertainty over PJ's existence.....

These players are not fools......

Conclusion - Do not expect any new arrivals and PJ has to make do with existing squad to avoid the drop at the end of the season. Start working on it PJ!!!

Get in now and offer over the top. It's the only way I can see us getting these two players. Dare say agents will be working to give them different options anyway but we must try.

'with a second offer expected in the next few days', if Clegg waits another week it will be too late anyway, is there any evidence that we are going to increase our bid, I thought not. I always said we would get no permanent signings, just a couple of loans to fill the gaps, it looks like Evans has accepted that we are going down and does'nt really mind, I think had we been in the promotion mix he might have spent, otherwise no chance.

offer 2.5 mil for both of em that way your making it worthwhile and they will seriously think about it as they could pay off their debt and have a bit more for their problems

They are obviously going to sell. They put that part in about Leicester in order to panic us to paying a higher fee. All political jostling in my eyes.

Must say I was kind of hoping that a second bid might have gone in today [ strike while the iron is hot type of thing ] and not wait until tomorrow. It might make them swet if we did, but sure as hell will do it to us !

Think we need to look for more then just the two from portsmouth, maybe the keeper as well, cant be any worse then what we got now.

I understand posters saying why would they join us, and this is where it needs to be sold to them.
We have good players here, good young players, going forward is some of the best football I have seen for a number of seasons, not hard I know, we then shoot ourselves in the foot because we can't defend. We get these defenders in hopefully we will stop leaking goals and move up the table, ready for a fresh assault on the league next season, with the players having grown together for the last few games, and having pre-season together.

Remember, there are a number of clubs in the past who looked like they may get relegated, finish the season strong and stay up comfortably and then go on to have a good following season, sometimes ending in promotion, or at least the play-offs.

And if all else fails........

Sack the manager!!

Guaranteed that another club will come in for the pair before we make a second bid, which will allow PJ to bring a couple of has-beens.

JEWELL OUT!

Hope we get them. But on another note poor old Pompey! How on earth is the manager only just aware of the financial situation?!? Looks like their mis-managing spectacularly again, really hope it doesn't send them under.
