Second Bid for Portsmouth Duo Turned Down
Second Bid for Portsmouth Duo Turned Down
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 16:37

Portsmouth have rejected Town’s second offer for Joel Ward (pictured) and Jason Pearce, according to reports on the south coast. The Blues made an increased bid, which we understand to have been £1.6 million, earlier today having had their initial offer - reportedly £1 million - rebuffed last week.

Town will now have to decide whether to make a third bid to the cash-strapped club or look at other targets.

However, given Pompey's ongoing financial concerns and manager Michael Appleton's admission that player sales are on the cards, it seems likely that the Blues will continue to pursue the matter.

It's understood that Town have not yet made a new bid for 17-year-old Crewe midfielder Nick Powell.

Sindre94: I agree with you. There is certainly some people that I do not agree with. IrishDim for a start. If PJ & ME go, then we are really in the deep do-doos.

I do think that the people who are advocating decent CBs and a decent RB are correct though.

You get real, would you want to stay at a club that may not pay your wages next week

Don't panic, the men in white coats know what they are doing!

Tractorog added 17:35 - Jan 23
These two are not the big wage earners at Pompey. Paying £1.6m for them buys 2 months grace for Pompey...without solving the wage bill problem. We might get a better response taking more players off their hands. What a farce football has become!

What idiots think it's Jewell that makes the offer? You utter planks...

Do your homework or something.

Also this hasn't been confirmed on the actual ITFC website yet. And hasn't even said we've made a bid, so i wouldn't be too disappointed yet.

@IrishTim
Because I think hes the right man looking forward, certainly weve had problems this season and we notice it. BUT, a radical change is not what we need. I think we should get behind him and start bringing the atmosphere back to PR, would be a decent start.

The comments left by so called fans on this site are ridiculous, it's embarrassing to say I support ITFC because the fans are muppets. how many of you lot actually watch the team?

irishtim added 17:49 - Jan 23
Sindre94 understand how you feel but there is nothing to say with recent results that u r correct. I like ur input & its great we have support. As for arniesbigtoe to insult me as irishdim leaves alot to be desired. I never insult anyone just give my honest opinion. At the end of the day is itfc thats important imo

Its not PJ who makes the bids. he suggests the players he wants, clegg and evans then make an offer. its been said before.

This is when we find out if the our club has ambition or just pi**ing in the wind.

It's not Paul jewells fault for 2 wins in 15, 8 points from 45, 54 goals conceded in 27.

Ffs people, wake up and smell the coffee. He put this team together, he brought the coaches and backroom staff, he applies the tactics. It's not bad luck, its a bad manager. We were 6th when we beat pompey in October and now look. That is an almighty f up.

I would like people to say how they see PJ stil being the one to take us forward cos at the moment he is paddling for dear life and getting no where. Put his record at itfc with his record at derby and it shows what a crap manager we have.

Marcus Evans should have had the balls to sack him after Burnley and also get rid of clegg. Yes, we want continuity but he is not up to the job.

I think we have gone past the tipping point which clegg referred to but he is still here.

If we get any players in they will be ones who no one else wants.

I am sure at the west ham game we will hear peoples true feelings to clegg and Jewell. Any new players will make no difference with these in charge. No leadership on the pitch and none off it.

At the moment there is nothing to be positive to be about.

Some of the people in here really dont have a clue on what's going on at ITFC. We have spent enough as it is. They are just being carefull thats all.
We have one of the most expensive teams in the League. Stop saying that we dont know how to negotiate. We got Bullard (lets not forget that we all wanted him at first, and they got him). Alot of teams were after him.
We will click at some point in the season. We have a deasent team.

COME ON TOWN ......

Bungle,Zippy and George are at it again! Probably offered £2.50 and a packet of smarties extra. I'm fully aware that we don't want to pay over the odds for players and that we should safeguard ourselves, but this is getting serious now. These two are good players and definately ones for the future and who could make one hell of A DIFFERENCE ! 7 days and counting. We are in deep water and our beloved ITFC will end up in Div 1, thats not being over dramatic, it's a fact! Lead underpants time! Oh, and I know Jewell doesn't make the bids, but he's had since January last year to sort this! We ahve all been saying this for a year now! Offer them our so called captain, he's not fit to wear the Blue & White and skipper this club!

8ashblue added 18:12 - Jan 23
There's no point chasing players you've spent time watching (i assume) without a strategy to pay up to a limit. So i'm assuming we havent gone in with our best offer but having seen Clegg cock it up before, nothing would surprise me!!
If we fail again, it means PJ will then be targetting players lower down his list.

Some of the comments on this site are getting ridiculous. yes we are in a relegation fight but lets be careful what we wish for. Instead of being negative all the time lets do what supporters are supposed to do and support the club. There are a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that we do not know and if we did we might see things in a different light. Some of you have the right idea; get behind the Town and cheer them on. All we have to do is get more points than the bottom 3 which shouldn't be too much to ask! Next season things may be very different under the same manager.

And I also think it's vital we bring in this kid Powell (if indeed we really have bid in the first place). Appreciate he's only 17, but has huge potential, illustrated by the fact Prem teams have been sniffing around, and will add some much needed youth and the 'no fear' factor. A situation we have all been craving previously. If he costs a few quid, so what. The business man in Evans will see it as an investment anyway...

WarkyWonderLand added 18:22 - Jan 23
Jewell brought in Keith Andrews who scored 9 goals and we still couldn't win. He brought in Danny Collins a welsh international and still conceded goals and couldn't win.

If we don't beat west ham we will have gone 7 games without a win again for the second time this season.

When sir bobby came in we were still in the top tier of football. We are in danger of going
0

WarkyWonderLand added 18:25 - Jan 23
Into the third tier of football.

You can't compare football now which is a business to football 40 years ago when it was a sport.

As they say, a bad tradesman blames his tools and that's what PJ does.

We cant even sign players who NEED to be sold.

tractorboy2434 added 18:33 - Jan 23
I think the most important question is 'do the players want to ,leave' if the answer to that is no then the deal is dead in the water, not many would want to come here whilst we are in our present predicament anyway and we are about to find out just how many targets on our 'scouting list' if we even have one, but it does seem strange how easy other clubs seem to make their transfer dealings, look at Leeds, got a replacement for Howson in 48 hours, even a small club like Peterborough seem to be able to conduct business in a timely manner.
