Lavery Set for Kilmarnock
Lavery Set for Kilmarnock
Monday, 23rd Jan 2012 23:06

TWTD understands that former Academy striker Caolan Lavery is on the verge of joining SPL side Kilmarnock. The Northern Ireland U21 international turned down a Blues contract at the end of his Academy scholarship in October.

Since leaving Portman Road, Lavery has spent time on trial at Sunderland, Leicester and Bradford, who were alerted to his availability by former Blues coach Brian Owen, who is now a scout at Valley Parade.

The Canadian-born frontman impressed the League Two club but we understand the Bantams were unable to agree compensation with Town and their interest subsequently waned.

In the weeks since then, Lavery has been training with Kilmarnock, who signed ex-Town Academy defender Rory McKeown last summer.

While Killie won’t have to agree a compensation deal in the same manner as another English club, FIFA rules include provision for training compensation to be paid in cross border moves.

Good luck, the fact that he didnt sign this contract makes me dislike him, I just cant help it.
Although I like to see Town prospects succeed!

McKeown and Lavery were both really talented, young footballers.
Great Shame.
What's the point in creating great young players and then giving them away to other clubs.
Lavery will be our next Jordan Rhodes.

Off to watch Killie at Hampden this Saturday in the Scots League Cup semi, be interesting to see if the boy makes his debut. Look forward to seeing McKeown in action too, though part of me wishes we'd given players such as these chances ahead of the journeymen who've let us down so badly in recent times.

I presume that's bugger all compensation for us then?

Next Jordan Rhodes please hes gone round nearly every club and hes not gained a contract so cant be that good and has an over inflated opinion of himself.

Sometimes young players drop down a division because they're not good enough.

Rhodes was a notable exception but don't presume every kid that's released will be that good.

Potential but poorly advised I'm afraid.

I'm sure Killie are offering him a much better deal than we did.
Well done, Mr Football Agent.

What pathetic comments from some - the reason the boy has ended up at Kilmarnock is because ITFC got greedy and the only place he can go is Scotland for a while and then come back to haunt us in the english leagues when the compo date is passed. If he had been offered a decent wage and contract he would still be here. PJ is not a man who is interested in youth just makes a few pathetic gestures to keep everyone quiet the quicker he is gone the better

KIlmarnock the equivalent of Sudbury Town ( no disrespect to Sudbury Town).

No 1 else wanted him.

Over inflated opinion of himself. How many big name canadian footballers can you mention (not Jamie Peters lol!)

Lavery was a brilliant goalscorer. Dont be fooled by most of the comments on here. Most have probably not even seen him play? His Agent turned the offer down because it was Crap, and I mean Crap. He had no choice but to walk away, Thats what Jewel wanted and then made out it was Lavery's choice to leave, very clever? Lavery wanted to play for Ipswich and expected he would ,Then along came Jewel, and look what has happened since? Lavery scored over 40 goals while at Ipswich. Did you know that. Dont run people down when you dont know the facts. COYB

ok so we didnt offer him a good enough deal, but then if he is soooo good why didnt someone else snap him out. dont say due to compensation if it was that unfair it would have been taken to tribunal like Cresswell was. he isnt good enough simple as! If he had signed for a year and proved himself he could have earned a better deal, but clearly thought he was better than that, not telling me he is on a mint now?

why are people saying that he will be our new jordan rhodes? he will only be a "jordan rhodes" if he gets his head down, and works extremely hard! ok, lavery's a good player, and yes, he could be a new "jordan rhodes", but to me he seems like he has the confidence of bendtner, and i won't be suprised if he sits back, and just supposes that he'll be put on the first team sheet every game. might be wrong, but just a suggestion!

anyone heard about the michael owen link too?!
