Palace Renew Interest in Delaney
Palace Renew Interest in Delaney
Thursday, 26th Jan 2012 22:25

TWTD understands that Crystal Palace have renewed their interest in Town defender Damien Delaney. The Eagles targeted the 30-year-old centre-half a year ago as part of a joint bid along with former skipper David Norris.

The Blues rebuffed that offer and the Irish international subsequently signed a new contract until June 2013.

This time around Town may be more willing to sell with two central defenders amongst the recently lodged bids, Portsmouth’s Jason Pearce and Falkirk’s Murray Wallace.

The Cork-born defender, who joined the Blues from QPR in 2009, has been in and out of the Town side this season, partly due to a foot injury which required surgery before Christmas.

Palace valued Delaney at £350,000 when they made their approach last year and Town may be willing to accept a similar figure, as long as they land at least one central defensive target before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

No way.

We are no closer to landing any of are targets selling Delaney would be stupid.
DD looked better paired with GMAC, but since his departure and injury to DD has not been as solid as he can be, but then again the whole team hasn't.

We are struggling for centre halves as it is, no need to start selling the remains that we have.

Don't get me wrong, he's a terrible defender and we are all in agreement on that.
But selling him now would be ludicrous. We would be going from 5 centrehalves to 2. We'd end up having to play Whight at LB and Cresswell as Left CD. Not a great plan.

So is Sonko's but who will buy him?

Genuinely wouldn't sell.

On his day he's solid, as shown with GMac previously, and albeit a couple of times with Sonko against Leicester and Reading. I also remember when Sonko went off injured against Pompey he cleared everything with any part of his body possibe as they were throwing the kitchen sink at us late on. Plus his height is always useful.

He did himself no favours with his showing vs Forest but not exactly a terrible substitute to have surely?!

Garv, I appreciate your positive attitude and agree with you so long as we have a strong dominant CB with a good brain alongside

cant we offer him to portsmouth so they still have some players left and we finally get their players in? just offer them all the players we dont want.

if hes not a fans favourite then that might be half the reason for him leaving if he does. defenders are never going to have a great reputation when they play for a team with the leakiest defence in the league though. he might go to palace and do well.
