Jewell Confirms Wallace Fee Agreed
Jewell Confirms Wallace Fee Agreed
Friday, 27th Jan 2012 16:39

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that Falkirk have accepted a bid from the Blues for central defender Murray Wallace. Town, Huddersfield and Brighton have all agreed a fee of £300,000 plus add-ons with the Bairns.

Jewell told the club site: "We have had a bid accepted by Falkirk for the lad. I spoke to [Falkirk manager] Steven Pressley yesterday and he's a lad that we have been watching for a while.

"We face a lot of competition for him. I know Brighton are keen and there are two or three other clubs as well.

"He's got a big game for Falkirk against Celtic on Sunday [Scottish League Cup semi-final] and then he will be coming down to see us. There is a long way to go yet but we are in there fighting."

Wallace held talks with Brighton yesterday and he is also set to meet with Huddersfield after Sunday’s match.

We understand that reports last night claiming that Charlton had also had an offer accepted were premature but the Addicks remain interested, while Swansea, Norwich and Newcastle are amongst a number of other clubs to have been keeping an eye on the 19-year-old.

Town, the Seagulls and the Terriers have all agreed that Wallace will return to Falkirk on loan for the remainder of the season if and when a deal is done.

Meanwhile, the Blues are continuing talks with Portsmouth regarding the triple bid with a deal now appearing unlikely to be done before Monday at the earliest, while we understand Town have decided against making any further offers to Crewe for midfielder Nick Powell.

I'll be amazed if he signs for us with all the other clubs that are performing better than us going in for him too

Come on PJ, raise the game by sticking another £100k on the table.... make it interesting.

Seems odd to agree the same fee with 4 clubs, it must be a release clause.

Surely if you had 4 interested parties you would invite sealed best / sealed bids.

More chance of us getting promoted this season than Wallace signing..

We'll balls it up somehow..

I actually give Jewell credit for taking what is clearly a long-term decision in going for Wallace given that he can't even play for us this season. He sounds a real prospect and I hope he chooses us ahead of the other options. To be in the Championship next season Brighton is the safest choice, followed by Charlton, followed by Ipswich!

So we knock £300k out of the budget and don't increase the playing staff for the relegation battle that awaits. Brave or stupid ?

Signings seem practically impossible. There is little confidence in the club.

But we have some very good players and some excellent prospects;

Time to dig in and fight.

This would be an excellent signing for us, for once we are buying young and one for the future. The fact that he is to return on loan is neither here nor there, I suspect he will only slowly become a first team player, much like Wickham.

The main problem still exists and currently PJ eggs are all in one basket, the Portsmouth three may come as a job lot. If they don't come, it could be a 24 hour scramble to get the usual over the hill type players here on loan.

I honestly don't believe that PJ decides how much we offer for players. He may (should) have some input - but it will be SC/ME who have the final decision.

must be a tough one that huddersfield 44 unbeaten and still only lost twice or ipswich who lose every week hmmmmmm

If he has been watching him for a while why didn't we go in earlier and get ahead of the game?

Our future is over the next 19 games and we probably need 20 points from 19 games. We have 8 from our last 16. It's going to be a big ask.

Mark my words, come Tuesday (deadline day) Wallace will have signed for someone else, & the move for the Pompey trio will have broken down...... hate being pessimistic, but we've seen all these rumours, promises & talk of iminent signings before..... just don't think it will happen :(

Why have we left it so late? No faith in Clegg or PJ sealing all these deals. If Pompey reject our bids on Monday - does PJ have a Plan B? If not, why not? I sincerley hope we sign at least 4 players PERMANENTLY in this window - especially as PJ has bigged up 5 bids. Anything less would be a complete anti-climax and should result in Jewell and Clegg losing their jobs (actually PJ should have been sacked a long time ago!).

Can't help thinking none of these 5 will sign for us. We'll end up with no-one and probably go down.

P.s. this would be a pointless signing as we need players NOW not next season - where hopefully a new manager will be in charge.

hey everyone i know we need signings now! but wouldnt say no to this guy, we have all remarked about the lack of a long term plan, and when there are plans being laid for the future, some of you complain! absolutely priceless... COYB

Come on guys give Jewell a break on this one, it's 300k ffs, a lad for the future, that's surely what we all want to hear. I think 'if' we'd have signed the two pompey lads yesterday then this would have had a totally different reaction....i know how frustrating it is because i come on here everyday and am disappointed too..

we're in for him, that's all we can do...the fee has been agreed so it's up to the player obviously...Brighton is my guess but we live in hope.

I think Mr Jewell and Mr Clegg should both be given yellow cards for "time wasting"

There is no way Pompey were going to sell before the weekend as they have a vital league match at Peterborough tomorrow. Pick up three points there and it could be the difference between staying up and being relegated if you consider they could lose 10 points or even more. They have to raise money before Tuesdays transfer deadline and selling players is their best hope. Just hope its us that pull the deals off.

Forget the Deus ex Machina.

There is a small group of lads at ITFC who will keep us in the division, backed by a management team that believes in them.Let's concentrate on what we have rather than what we don't have (and actually some of these offers are no better than we have already, let's be honest?)

It's 100% or nothing now PJ.

First ,defence, young Smith and Higham need to know how they fit, then use your amazingly talented attacking players. Get them putting it in the back of the net 50 times a week in training.

I hate these rumours of the club having been purchased by a betting syndicate, but given the otherwise first class management and the players, the question remains.

Very impressive, you must have done Latin at school?

Agree with your comments. I still think if the defensive coach can find a way of preventing the goals from punts over the back four we can move smoothly up the table. Even, if we are left with the players we have got.
