Town Confirm Stevenson Signing
Town Confirm Stevenson Signing
Saturday, 28th Jan 2012 21:01

Town have confirmed that Hearts midfielder Ryan Stevenson is joining the Blues with the move set to be formalised on Monday. As reported this morning, the 27-year-old Scot was at Portman Road today for talks and a medical after the Blues had an offer accepted on Friday.

Stevenson has put pen to paper on a contract which we understand to be an 18-month deal plus an option for a further season but with the paperwork yet to be cleared. He will make his debut against West Ham on Tuesday as long as international clearance comes through before midday on Monday.

Town are believed to have paid Hearts £50,000 with the Stevenson’s Tynecastle deal up at the end of the season and with him refusing to play due to a payment dispute.

Irvine-born Stevenson played youth football with Ayr United and Chelsea, staying in the same apartment block as John Terry when making regular trips south to train with the Premier League side.

In 2002 he moved on to St Johnstone where he made the breakthrough into first team football, before returning to Ayr United, initially on loan, in 2006.

The 5ft 11in tall midfielder, who can also play up front, moved to Hearts for an undisclosed fee in February 2010 and since then has made 47 starts and 20 sub appearances, scoring 11 goals. His contract is up at the end of June.

In December, after Hearts failed to pay their players’ wages, he asked for his contract to be terminated. This was refused but he told the club he wouldn’t play or train until he had been paid, citing stress on his unborn child amongst the reasons for his decision.

A Scotland call-up in November but without winning a cap, much-tattooed Stevenson was linked with Bristol City last month, while League Two Crawley had a bid rebuffed a week ago.

Welcome to ipswich.

This is just the sort of signing I like to see town make. I'd rather a player came here with a point to prove and fire in their belly rather than a premiership old lag looking for one last pay cheque.

love it,
especially as Crawley were after him as a cheaper option to Drury when they started dithering with fee.

Pleased with this signing. Europa League Midfielder who is still young and eager to do well. Still don't understand all the criticism of the Scottish League. These guys are hard. They are used to playing football in some of the roughest conditions known to man. Celtic, Rangers etc would last the pace in the Premiership.
Hopefully we can now get some defenders in also.

Good to see our network of European scouts start to unearth some gems.

Cracking bit of business, just hope he has got some match fitness and can get stuck in early on.

Welcome to the club Ryan. Just hope it is not a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Considering the cost of Leadbitter and some of the other midfielders we have at the club? This is a steal. Hopefully can go straight into first team action.Good signing pj.
Some defenders urgently needed. Any other players not being paid who would be prepared to nip across the border to Suffolk?
Ryan, can you recommend any of your mates from Hearts?

I know not the be all and end all but on fifa he is a 66 which is 6 higher than they give Hyam and drury and carson but 5 less than Leadboots so literally could go either way. Its up to you to prove ho good you are Mr Stevenson and I wish you all the best and hopefully you can be a steal!

btw anyone know what shirt number he will take?

Hopefully a bit of Scottish bite and steel for our midfield, at a bargain price. Can't really go wrong. Now... let's get the Pompey lads.

Solid acquisition and will give us steel to our midfield at a good price. Hes under 30, not a loan signing (so cares if the club does well), has scored goals at a high level (which person said Celtic would struggle in the Championship??) and is an automatic replacement for Andrews (who we ain't goona get).
Sooo Laad. You up for theeee fite of yer life?
We still need defenders Paul, our defence is a joke.
Welcome to ITFC Ryan. I'd much prefer a signing like you to the Leadboots/Bowyer types.
