Bowyer Only Absentee for Coventry Trip
Bowyer Only Absentee for Coventry Trip
Thursday, 2nd Feb 2012 14:36

Midfielder Lee Bowyer is Town’s only absentee for Saturday’s trip to Coventry City. The 35-year-old is still suffering with his groin injury.

Manager Paul Jewell says that otherwise he has a full squad to choose from: “There’s just Lee Bowyer who is unavailable, everybody else is fit.”

The Blues boss is able to call on loan keeper Alex McCarthy after his one-match ban for his red card at Leeds, but says he was impressed with Arran Lee-Barrett’s performance in the 5-1 victory over West Ham: “He did very well the other night.”

Jewell, who is suffering with a cold, says he has decided which one of the pair will start between the sticks against the Sky Blues, but refused to be drawn on who would get the nod at this afternoon’s press conference: “I’m not going to tell you.”

Keep the same side. Get rid of Bullard, Bowyer and Delaney in the summer and sign a couple of new defenders.
Keep Leadbitter he says, running for cover, might be a decent player with some new faces round him.

Gazelle, how many years do you want to keep Leadbitter to see if he could be a decent player in matches (they do say he's good in training)?
Drury has been better in every game that he has played than Leadbitter has ever been!
Withdraw his contract offer I say.

I'd agree with sending McCarthy back to Reading, his two appearances so far indicate that indeed he is a liability. ALB gets some stick but he's not done a bad job this season.

McCarthy said he wanted to make an instant impact. He certainly did that!

Anybody else notice that the squad has played better since Mr Bowyer demise, maybe too much bagage in his past?

Stupid signing, bound to cause issues.

Keep same team with Carson and Stevenson on bench

Please let's keep the same team with Carson on the bench. MCarthy, Delaney, Bowyer, Leadbitter and Ellington to be moved out in the summer.

Whilst it must be tempting to give Stephenson/Stevenson a run, it would be an insult to drop anyone who played Tuesday.

I would bring him on as a sub later on in the game. I would also give Carson a run out. He needs to know that he is valued and has a future or else he will not sign his contract.

McCarthy is back from suspension but I wouldn't even have him on the bench.

Why with knocking Bullard all the time? Yes, he has not played well this season, but how many of you who berate him no, voted for him as player of the year last year? How many posted messages to Jewell to go and get him when he became available? How many poasted positive messages when he did sign? How many went out nad bought JB wigs? A good player does not become a bad player over night. Clearly something is up and it is down to Jewell to get the best out of him. We can play our part by getting behind him like we did last year!

A completely pointless signing - as was Ingimarsson. Perhaps PJ should pay his contract up as well?

We should stick with the youngsters anyway. Dropping Bullard completely would also be a great idea. Surely Carson - a player for the long term future of the club - would be a better option on the bench? At this rate PJ will drive Josh out of the club. Not acceptable.

No great loss, had a few ok games but that's about it, didn't think he would be a good signing for us and have more or less been proved right!

No need to change the team, we were brillant against West Ham. Drury and Hyam were solid in centre-mid and Lee-Barrett played well in goal. I can't stand that McCarthy guy either, he's not committed enough and even said in an interview that if things went right for him, he'd be at leeds instead of Town. He's not as good as Lee-Barrett anyway! COYB!

ALB did everything right on Tuesday and almost got his head kicked off by Carlton Cole for the cause. Showed good instincts and courage: he stays.

yes agree to same team with Carson definately in the 16, as a youth with width and pace and hunger and a desire to wear the Ipswich shirt with pride why oh why is he not being played. imo if he is not being played cause PJ wants him to sign, why would he sign if he is not getting regular games my fear is that Carson will walk if not getting games.
