Portman Road Pitch Inspection 11.15am
Saturday, 11th Feb 2012 08:58
The Portman Road pitch faces an 11.15am inspection after temperatures overnight dropped to as low as -13° in Ipswich.
The pitch has been covered for more than a week with the heated blowers also employed to help ensure that today's game against Middlesbrough goes ahead.
Meanwhile, the decision to call off the Peterborough-West Ham game means that if it goes ahead, Town's match will be shown live in various places overseas.

Can't we have a decision now! I have got to drive from Sleaford, I usually leave about now, don't want to waste £50-00 in petrol uneless I need to. I suppose the covers don't come off till 11am, giving it as much hot air as possible. We don't need another Watord!

Just what we need on the day we have a ticket promo. Is 11:15 not leaving it slightly late?
Mark added 10:14 - Feb 11
What's the betting it is postponed and rearranged for when Middlesbrough are over their tiredness and injury problems, and in a good run of form!?

I'm heading up from London for the game and was hoping to get the 12 train from Liverpool St, be in Ipswich by 1 for a bite to eat and some beers before the game. Guess i had better head over to Liv St as planned and wait there for news. I presume TWTD or the club site will have it first?

It was covered until are groundsteam managed to tear the cover on wednesday hence the pitch is frozen
blueconscience added 10:51 - Feb 11
Do we not use that hot-air system anymore?, or is it just a crap alternative to undersoil heating.
NoCrap added 10:55 - Feb 11
Don't know what the temperature is but it's nice and sunny here at the moment - things seem to be defrosting nicely!
MarkITFC added 11:13 - Feb 11
oh ffs ,if the pitch has been coverd all week - why would it be called off ??
This better not be called off !
TimmyH added 11:19 - Feb 11
Frozen pitch under the cover by any chance? nothing to do with the cover protecting the grass from snowfall.
blues1 added 11:27 - Feb 11
blueconscience, dont you read the articles before posting your comments. it clearly states that the heaters were used. the problem is that where the covers are flat on the pitch, on the wings, those areas dont get the heat & thus. still freeze up. do feel we should be looking at other avenues for our pitch protection. apart from anything else, if the game is off it will cost the club a lot in lost revevnue.
