Midfielder Josh Carson has been named in the Northern Ireland senior squad for their friendly against Norway at Windsor Park, Belfast on Wednesday 29th February. Carson has previously won two caps at full level.

The 18-year-old is understood to be close to putting pen to paper on his new Town contract, a two-year deal with an option of a third season. His current terms are up at the end of June.

Excuse my ignorance but when they say 'close', what does that even mean? What's stopping him?

Hope he signs, & looks at how Andy & Luke have turned it around. Itfc can go places if we can hold on to these players & build. Pj well done i have been critical but we need to sort cb & rb for next year & i think we can look to top six if we do next season.

'close'... ..interesting word.

Hope he signs, as he looks to have great potential. Just the sort of player who could turn us into a true promotion-chasing force in the Championship.

Suspect the dead hand of his agent in the background though...

I like him. Should be on the bench instead of leadbitter as an option for either flank or up front.

Why would he want to stay here?

Compare the form this season of Carson and Bullard. Yet Bullard has been on the bench for the last 4 ahead of Carson who has a reputation here for playing good football, in comparison to Jimmy whose track record is that of an over-payed arrogant tit.

Eggyblues ..

Bullard has started 12 games this season 6 wins 3 draws 3 defeats ,has had a dip in form but was instrumental in the last good run we went on against Leeds,Hammers,Boro,Brighton,Cardiff ,Pompey etc as compared to Carson who has started 4 losing 3 and drawing 1,including the Peterboro 7-1 hardly comparable .
I would choose Jimmy on our bench every time over Carson as he is a quality player who can turn a match on his own ,if you had said Leadbitter i would whole heartedly agree with you but seeing as neither have signed a new offered contract i would have neither on my bench

Not knockin Leadbetter, But would like to see Carson on the bench instead of Leadbetter as I feel he he can play on the wings plus any where trough the middle.

Plus see him moving the club forward as he progess and coming on from the bench will help,However at the minute can see him getting a starting place as the team are playing well

So, if we are winning without JC and Jewell does pick him and we don't win, I'm just guessing that some people (we all know who) will blame PJ for changing a winning team.......

Congratulations Josh, imo much deserved statis, hope you sign for Ipswich Town as a bright young talent who has quality and desire to wear the shirt as seen on occasions. Good luck in your NI game against Norway. Hope to see you playing at Portman Road soon.

This contract saga has been going on and on and on, it's ridiculous for an 18-year-old looking to make his way in the game. If he isn't careful he'll end up at Kilmarnock at this rate.

....talking of signing up......those two Falkirk lads must be wondering whether they did the right thing in signing for huddersfield now and not Town....stability of management !!?? and Lee Clark gets sacked.....3 losses in 55 games .....what un earth is that all about ....surely no one is safe if thats the criteria to beat!!......sign up Carson sometimes its better to stay with what you know!! Mark; according to PJ, Josh's agent is meeting with him on the 21st February and PJ is confident that the kid will sign. I for one sure hope he does as youth is the answer going forward, I am sure you will agree!!!! Josh has a brilliant attitude to the game as has been proven since he has been left out of the squad for the past 4 matches and you dont hear him complaining, that is dedication at top level. Josh please sign ITFC need talent like you.

As others have said before me what does close really mean? Either he wants to sign or he doesn't. Personally I hope he does and that Mr Jewell at least puts him on the bench on Saturday vs Cardiff to demonstrate he really wants him to be here - leave either Bullard or Leadbetter out, it makes no difference which one but Carson would be useful if we suddenly find ourselves behind and need to chase the game.

i do hope we sign him up he is a quality player to and let this lad go would be crinimal, as others said drop leadboots he doesnt give us much, were's carson can change a game around and knows were the goal is, so defo keep bullard and carson on the bench, as bullard has tools in his locker to split a defence and carson can play any were in midfield , i think there may be a personality clash there some were, but he defo needs to be on the bench andbe brought on especially if we have a prob with either martin murphy or jet, you tell me were leadboots can fill them rolls ummmmm no didnt think so lol

Fearless, pacey, can beat a man, got a goal in him, like the rest of you I can't see why he wouldn't be on the bench instead of Leadbitter
