Klug Set for Town Return
Klug Set for Town Return
Sunday, 19th Feb 2012 22:15

TWTD understands that former Blues coach Bryan Klug is being lined-up for a return to Portman Road. Stalwart Klug was controversially axed by former boss Roy Keane in January 2010 and is currently the assistant director and head of player development at Tottenham’s Academy.

Klug was Town’s assistant boss under Jim Magilton until John Gorman’s appointment, when he moved into a head of football development role, and was taking charge of the reserves at the time of his Portman Road exit.

The 51-year-old was a youth player with the Blues between 1977 and 1983 but failed to make a senior appearance, moving on to Wimbledon (loan), Chesterfield and Peterborough United and then into non-league football.

Klug returned to Portman Road in 1987, joining the coaching staff and in 1998 became the director of the newly formed Academy in an era during which Kieron Dyer, Richard Wright, James Scowcroft, Titus Bramble and others emerged.

In 2005 Klug, who has also had spells as caretaker-manager of the Blues, led the Academy to the club’s third FA Youth Cup before becoming Magilton’s assistant a year later, shortly after Newcastle United had approached him to run their Academy.

The EPPP developments which come into effect next season will see a shake-up at Academy and reserve levels across the board and the Blues will be required to appoint additional full-time coaches whether they opt for a Category One or Category Two youth set-up.

Meanwhile, one of the Sunday tabloids reports that Blues striker Jason Scotland has turned down the chance to join Bristol City on loan.

Scotland will trigger an additional year on his contract at his current wages if he makes another three league starts before the end of the season.

If this happens, it will be the best bit of news of the season. It was a disastrous and shameful decision to get rid of a top coach with a proven track record, who had ITFC throughout his veins in to the bargain. Please, please, come back, Bryan. I will then really begin to believe we have learnt from our mistakes and are going to go back to our tried and trusted youth policy. "A" Academy status anyone? C'mon Marcus. You know it makes sense.

I just hope this story is true, he should never have been sacked by Roy Keane in the first place. Just say you're coming back Bryan!!!!

I really hope this is a true story. He should never have been got rid of..that was a disgraceful decision.
I'm feeling so much more positive about the club as a whole now. We seem to be going back to how things should be. The black clouds are lifting!

I hope that this is true...Brian was at the heart (and had his heart) of such great youth development at this Club. With ex players like Simon Milton and Russell Osman a part of our setup, Alan Brazil and Matt Holland a part of 'the Media' our Club could be turning the corner? PJ is now starting to realise what made this team great, find the formula, stick to it...let them play!

This story has made my day and I so hope Klug's return happens. A quality coach and a true asset to Ipswich Town. Why Klug got relieved of his duties is a complete mystery and just highlights how destructive Keane's tenure at this club was.

Why would he leave a Prem club with a top academy to come back to Ipswich who sacked him without warning 2 years ago, another non story with no substance to it I fear

I equally fear there is no substance to it - but this man is a 'true blue' through and through - GET HIM BACK IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.
Should never have had to leave the Club - ridiculous decision.

Really surprised leeds or peterbrough haven't try to sign him there after ever one of our transfer targets. Great news keep up the good work now for some decent signing to put a smile on our faces
