Reading Linked With Bullard Move
Reading Linked With Bullard Move
Monday, 20th Feb 2012 23:20

Reading are being linked with a loan move for Town midfielder Jimmy Bullard. The Royals reportedly want to land the 33-year-old before their weekend game at Middlesbrough.

Bullard, who joined the Blues on a two-year deal after having his contract terminated by Hull last summer, hasn’t started a game since the 4-0 defeat at Burnley in November.

With Andy Drury and Luke Hyam currently in the team, skipper Grant Leadbitter waiting in the wings, Lee Bowyer fit after his groin injury and Ryan Stevenson signed from Hearts in January, Town may be open to loaning Bullard, who is believed to be the club’s highest earner on a reported £18,000-a-week.

Meanwhile, Reading boss Brian McDermott is also reported to be in talks with Wolves regarding the vacant manager's job at Molineux.

Bullard should stay put,he wont get a better run with Reading, he must realise he is not a 9O min man week in week out, he remains a decent back up .

Don't forget hes sat on the bench doing nothing earning £20,000 a week, if reading want to pay his full wages i'd gladly let him go with a 24 hour recall if someone gets injured like Stockdale had with us

Some idiots on here.

The guy loves playing football, you only have to go go matches to see this and see any interview he's ever given - all he ever says is the typical dim footballer comment "I just want to play football", he enjoys it, is that so hard to understand? The way he celebrated our third against Cardiff is proof of this, he wants to be part of a winning team, combine that with the quality you all know he has you'd be happy to loan him out to a rival Championship club?

I have to agree with Harlingblue, stop the loaning nonsense.
I would say that clubs cannot loan to each other in the same league, and whilst at the moment they can and a clause can be inserted so the player doesn't face his parent club, he could be influential in the loaning club gaining a higher position than the parent club so in this case I'd say in no way should JB be loaned to Reading.
Clubs should only be allowed say 3 players on loan so that they are not making up the core of the team with loanees, it's nearly been our downfall this year and was the dowfall of the Nodge a few years back.
A proper reserves and U21's league needs bringing back into effect with promotion and relegation and ticket sales, giving more revenue to the clubs (those who can't afford full tickets may go to a lesser priced game and it allows for development of fringe/players returning from injury/youth players.

no way no how agreed one of the best and talented players not to mention the fact that he is a real personality and is great for the team I would never allow Reading or any team for that mateer to prize him away and I would love to see jimmy (when he retires) be part of ITFC training team along with Klug!!!

Erm, not sure how anyone can say Jimmy has shown no interest. Not really sure how you'd qualify that. In fact, i'd probably point the finger at Jewell for Bullard's lack of impact this season seeing as he continually picked him at the base of the diamond as a holding midfielder when he was most successful roaming forward last season hence his goal return.

Anyone at the Millwall away game could see that when in the flat 4 he had more impact than playing as a holding midfielder. Agreed hes not hit the mark or been in as good as form as he was last season but with 45 points still to play for i want a balance of experience and youth in our match day 16 and he offers that aas well as being a direct replacement for Drury or Martin.

Agreed with keanish about Bullard, was played in the wrong position, although I'd say someone out and out attack minded are a direct replacement for Martin, Stevenson or JET I would say that he's more suited in the Drury role, trouble there being so is Bowyer, Leadbitter and as Andrews was. And that was the problem earlier in the season, a diamond of 4 central attacking midfielders, just a bit concerned if we were to lose Hyam through injury, he's the one we have no direct replacement for although I guess Jimmys style of play suits him there more than the others, hence him playing there earlier in the season.

Laughable - not the fact Bullard may leave on loan, but some of the comments on here! 'He lifts the whole team' - how exactly? He is an overpaid injury prone has been - who - as Hull fans warned us - showed little form or commitment since he landed a cushty two year deal.

I would much prefer to see Carson on the bench than Bullard. Another poor PJ signing - we need to build for the future and Bullard is not it! Sorry.

In my opinion, it would be silly to let him go, especially after the lengths Town went to actually sign him..
Good for rotation, still has class, as someone else said, from set pieces. Leadbitter/Bowyer should go tbqh.. New CM/CB/RB's in summer, and maybe a RM/RW?

Get rid as soon as possible. A waste of money. I would like to swap him for Rhodes from Huddersfield except that Rhodes is worth 100 Bullards. Bullard is worse than Joe Broadfoot or Gus Uhlenbeek and that is saying something.

We can't have a squad with nothing but youngsters. We need a few older players around. We seem to have five older midfielders; Bullard, Stevenson, Bowyer, Leadbetter and Kennedy. I would keep the first two and let the others go, thus freeing up some wages to be spent elsewhere. I'd love to see Rhodes back, but it won't happen as he is too valuable now.

Jas, so Bullard is ANOTHER poor PJ signing is he. So the fact that he was our player of the year and everyone, (and I mean everyone )was pleased when he signed doesn't come into it then?. Plus Cresswell, Chopra, Jet, Drury, Murphy, Andrews, Collins, and Stockdale are all poor too are they?? Agreed, Ingarmarsson and ellington flopped but they were both free and probably worth a gamble. Seems a fairly decent record to me.
