Leeds Linked With Edwards
Leeds Linked With Edwards
Sunday, 26th Feb 2012 16:04

Leeds United are eyeing Blues right-back and current skipper Carlos Edwards, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

New Whites manager Neil Warnock is claimed to want the 33-year-old on loan, although there seems little possibility that Town would be interested in such a switch with Edwards firmly established at right-back and with no other senior options in the squad.

Leeds may well be amongst a number of Championship clubs understood to be monitoring Edwards’s situation but more with a view to a deal in the summer when the Trinidad and Tobago international’s Town contract is up.

Earlier this week, Edwards said that he wanted to remain at Portman Road beyond the end of the season.

IF we can get a replacement get rid, absolutely useless positionally (because he is a midfielder) and can't defend.

Very good defender. I don't care what some of the idiots say, we won't replace him properly.

I don't see anyone saying anything about Smith's positioning yesterday?

Notice David Wright is not a regular starter for Crystal Palace so go get him and let Carlos Edwards go.

More than happy for this to happen providing we can get Adam smith or Matt Lowton in the summer!

Where do these nonsensical stories come from? I really dislike journos although I know a couple, they just seem to make up complete rubbish just so they get paid. Why would Warnock be interested in taking Edwards on loan? Surely most of the loans done during these 'emergency loan' windows are those where players are being sent out because they are not getting regular first team football. Any manager would look at the situation, look at whether the player in question is playing before they put in a loan offer which clearly wont be accepted. If in this case it is a genuine story, Cleggy?Jewell would have to be a complete muppets to do such as deal whilst knowing that we don't have any other options in that position. Having said that, whilst Clegg runs this club anything is possible.

village-blue - if you think david wright is a better player than carlos edwards then you obviously do not understand football very well!!!

Edwards has been excellent this season. Would be better suited to a midfield place - but that's PJ's fault - not Edwards. Why has his contract situation not been addressed by now??

Bottom line is PJ has failed to address the defence and has been here 14 MONTHS. 53% loss rate this year - people can delude themselves if they like - but there is little faith in PJ addressing the defence again in the Summer - so may as well keep Edwards. Better than PJ's defensive efforts.

Edwards has done well this season, but his current contract is probably more than we would like to continue to pay a 33 year old. I dont think he will get a similar contract anywhere. The story is probably from his agent trying to boost the contract offer!
Catch 22 for us offer or not

Take the offer or go Carlos you are not bigger than the club and we should not just give into his excessive demands. No doubt he is a good player but he has to realise he is in the sansong of his career and does not call the shots anymore.

Airliner- I'm not sure there is currently an offer for him to decide on.

so this is how it goes if youre a journo.....

Firtly think of any player whose contract is up at the end of the season and has recently done something positive......

Secondly think of any team with a new manager or who have recently had some big changes.......

Publish story linking player from thought 1 to team in thought 2. Law of averages says one in 50 will come off and you can claim journalist super insights for finding out and thus hope for a pay rise......

Journos are actually the scum of the earth, closely followed by agents, I suspect thats the reason the two sets of leaches feed from each other.......

Is this the work of a journalist, or just an agent trying suggest 'interest from other clubs' to help negotiate a better deal for his client with Ipswich??

The Leeds loan link is clearly rubbish. Whether he stays will depend on money, as I'd like us to keep him but not on big wages at his age. Let's hope he will take a big pay cut so we can agree a new deal.

I agree that Jewell has not addressed the defence, and that is disappointing, but he has addressed the attack and midfield, so he's half-way to putting a good side together.

I suspect that this is an agent trying to improve his client's position in any negotiations; that's what they're there for.
If there is any substance to it, then say no to a loan and let him go in the summer. Presumably, Mr Jewell isn't a particular fan of Edwards at right-back or he wouldn't have been trying to sign a replacement from Portsmouth (I wonder if that is what brought an upturn in Edwards' form?). We would lose an older player on a large salary and could get in a younger player who is a specialist right-back. We need a centre-back and a 'keeper as well, but that's another matter.

What is the problem regards signings and contracts at this club? we always seem to be chasing our tails! Are we just a poorly run club now?

RetroBlue added 20:25 - Feb 26
I'm not one Edwards greatest fans, but for love of God if Jewell and Clegg see fit to allow him to leave without FIRST getting in a proper), they' both should be hung drawn and quartered . This Club still hasn't replaced the last decent/ proper) we had in David Wright ffs .

Why is it we just can't seem to get in two CB' RB and GK. Its not like this has been a recent "problem" to solve at this Club.

I bloody despair !

oh dear Garv, have to disagree big time, not edwards fault but this is not his position and at times his defensive frailties show. Now retroblue, you have summed up perfectly...coyb

Sounds like Agent talk
Think he has been one of our better players this year - but in the main the team have been rubbish, so he has has little competition. Until the West Ham game the player of the season was probably Andrews
Would like to see Edwards stay but as he must be on a big wage think he will be one who leaves.
Jewell has not got a good record of dealing with the teams needs- signing keepers, centre backs etc so Edwards leaving would be a threat- better the devil you know?

i think carlos gets alot of unfair criticism. i happen to think he is a quality right back and would be happy to see him remain at right back for next season and beyond, he also makes a fine club captain in my eyes. he has been one of our best and most consistent performers. name me a better championship right back going forward? he is solid, dependable, scores and creates goals. . . . . and he is playing out of position. perhaps even more importantly, he loves the club and has said he wants to stay, even going as far as to say he would take a paycut to do so. he is naturally gifted, superb on the ball and at 33 is still as fit as a 23 year old, he has only missed one game all season. people need to get off his back and appreciate what brings to the team. cresswell and edwards are quality at left and right back, our defense lacks a top quality commanding goalkeeper and a tough, composed centre back to lead and organise the back four. carlos edwards gets rough treatment considering what he give week in, week out for his team. i believe he is a strong candidate for player of the season

The reason nothing has been done is obvious, its money, he's 33 and will no doubt want another 2 yrs, we should offer 1 year on reduced terms which is what will probably happen, its the reason there were no signings to speak of in January and its high time people realised it and accepted there will be no big money signings come the summer.

Jas you say Edwards has been excellent this season, who put him in that position?
