Wright Expected to Be Out for Season
Wright Expected to Be Out for Season
Monday, 16th Apr 2012 13:31

Keeper Richard Wright is set to miss the remaining three games of the season with the knee injury he suffered in training last week. Jimmy Bullard remains sidelined due to illness ahead of Tuesday's home game against Birmingham, but Daryl Murphy is fine despite concerns he might have suffered a hamstring problem late on at Crystal Palace.

Manager Paul Jewell says Wright and Bullard are the only regular squad members unavailable: “Richard Wright and Jimmy. Jimmy’s still ill. The squad will be pretty much the same as it was on Saturday.”

He says Wright, whose contract is up at the end of June, will probably miss the rest of this season with Cody Cropper set to continue as Arran Lee-Barrett’s deputy: “I would think so. It looks like he might need a little scope. He’s had a scan and we’re just waiting for that scan.”

Wright's only appearance of his third spell with his hometown club came in November as Town lost 3-2 at home to Reading.

Better news is that Murphy is OK: “It was a bit of cramp. He was in yesterday and was fine and he was in training this morning.”

So Jimmy had the Plague in January (judging by how long he was out); this is what?–Small Pox?

Shame as I assume he wont be here next season I was hoping he would get to play in the last game as a final (maybe) send off.
On the other side of that though, this is exactly why his career stalled, he's clearly not naturally fit enough for the professional game, even as a keeper, which is frustrating as he had all the attributes early on in his career to be a top class international keeper.
Good luck in whatever you do in the future Wrighty, shame it didn't work out for you third time around here.

A shame for Richard - but let's face it, was not picked by PJ and was always going to leave at the end of the season. PJ prefers a loanee in goal, which surely the majority of people on here have to admit - was a big mistake.

I wouldn't play Murphy. Pointless - will be heading back to Celtic (he was on 20K at Sunderland - so must be similar at Celtic).

As for Bullard - well, what a complete waste of money.

Jas, who would you play in the first 11?

Sorry though I am to learn he is injured. I cant help but ask myself , how many £m's has this player "earned" out of essentially sitting on the bench I wonder?

Too many free loaders in the game these days IMO.

Shame

What a great save in final with Barnsley with score at 1-1, one of the turning points in that game.
Over 350 game for the club 2nd only to Cooper for clean sheets and his ratio to clean sheets to games played are the best in the clubs proud history.
Would like to have seen him play one more time to thank him for his service to the club

Then he left for big bucks at Arsenal , and played less than 30 games in ensuing 7 years, happy to sit on the bench! Arsenal, Everton , WHU and now at ITFC.

I agree with Jas0999 why does PJ insist on loans especially in goal as no previous manager has done it ?

Apart from Santos,Volz,Ambrose,Colback,Rosenoir, Murphy,Healy,John,ODea,Townsend,Colback again,Livermore,Fallon all in the last few years .
Especially getting a keeper on loan with a call back like Begovic !!!

Feel sorry Wrighty didnt get chance to play last home game good player for us in both spells

It's a pity but injuries throughout his career have prevented him from fulfilling his promise. Like another Ipswich boy, Kieran Dyer.

Richard Wright has been best keeper I have ever seen play for Town. He was superb in his 1st spell. Lack of games and injuries have ruined his career. But his bank balance is pretty healthy!

would def have liked to see him play one more time in a town shirt, i really do feel is career is all but over now though which is a shame as he had so much potential. Moving away from town too early proved costly in the long run even if initally he was quids in. A genuine guy who i feels really does have a genuine love for this club but was tempted by the bright lights, and tbh who wouldnt have been......... Sucro fantastic post :-) memory loss or should i say selective memory is a very useful tool utilised by the odd one or two!!!

On this one I tend to agree with Bluelady; RW was a great 'keeper who made his big move two seasons too early. What of Cody Cropper? Will he get a chance to show himself to be our next great 'keeper in the three remaining meaningless games or not? ALB certainly isn't the answer.

Bullard and Wright have earned millions over the years without playing much. I wonder if we will pay Bullard off? At least he didn't cost a transfer fee.

Murphy may or may not join in the summer. Will he prefer Celtic's money or Ipswich first team opportunities?

saffronblue - I would play people who are going to be here next season. I would also build a team for the future. I wouldn't have ignored the keeper and CB positions - or relied on loans or players with a year or two left in their careers.

People on here may have a go at me - but I would have accepted a poor season like this, if I could see we were moving in the right direction - with a team in place to challenge next year. But we haven't and that's because PJ relied on loans and players 30+. The loans will go, as will a number of PJs signings - goodness, one already has! We are back to square one this Summer. Really, only three of PJ's Summer signings will be here for the long-term ...

Then there will be those out of contract and could possibly leave; Scotland, Leadbitter and Smith. Bowyer, Wright and Sonko will almost certainly depart.

So, how does this constitute building for the future?

In regards to Bullard - although we didn't pay a transfer fee, there would have been a fairly hefty signing on fee! What ever we are paying Bullard (rumoured to be £18K a week) - it's too much!

cant be that sad he should have stayed at town one more year to benefit everyone, good keeeper wrongly advised as he still would have earnt as much and would probably had a great career not a bench warmer

It's sad, Wright was definately one of, if not, my favourite goalkeeper at Ipswich, just wish he could've maybe played one more game so we all could give him the send of he deserves. Good luck Wright!

Sad for Wright as looks like the end of his ITFC career.
Still don't worry about the wear and tear on the bench he kept warm.
As a club, painting is one of our strengths.
That bench will soon look like new.

What an amazing 'keeper he was for us in the 90's. Wrighty was a big reason we won promotion in 2000. You can understand him thinking the future for him should be playing for the the big clubs in the Premier League, after the England call-up and his performances for us...what a terrible shame that wasn't the case.

Jas - the question was who would you play, not please repeat the same rant you have posted for the last three months.
