Pablo Off to Vietnam
Pablo Off to Vietnam
Monday, 16th Apr 2012 13:44

Former Blue Pablo Couñago is close to joining Vietnamese side Đồng Tâm Long An, according to reports in South-East Asia.

Based in the city of Tân An, DTLA were relegated from the Vietnamese top flight last season and are looking to strengthen as they try to bounce back at the first attempt.

Couñago, 32, has been without a club since being released by Town at the end of 2010/11 having spent that campaign on loan at Crystal Palace.

How can anyone compare Pablo to that useless lazy lump called Priskin. Pablo may not be one of Towns great legends but supporters loved him, he was also a very nice person. I wish him all the best for the future.

I remember a boxing day away match to west ham a few years ago when i was about 78 we were 1-0 down midway through the second half and my dad was f'in and blindin' how we had lost to scum over the christmas and were now 1-0 down. All i said was don't worry dad! all we need to do is bring on pablo counago and he'll score 2 and we'll win 2-1. he told me to **** off and then about 5 minutes later on came pablo and yep, you guessed it, he went and scored two goals and we did win 2-1. Just if i was another 10 years older and was old enough to place bets, i'd probably have been a couple of hundred quid better off. Pablo for life!

Good player, but was past his best, scoring just two goals in a number of starts. However, that's miles better than Ellington's record. Was rightly released.

Also, Garvan has hardly excelled at Palace.

So you would say you'd rather have Pablo right now than Ellington Jas? I certainly would!

He would be something of a dream to have as a squad player I think.

I think some people have very short memories. You couldn't get much closer to a fan favourite in his prime at town than Pabs.

Pablo's understanding with Tommy Miller was excellent and led to a number of quality goals, with Pablo twisting/turning into position, then holding up the ball & laying it off perfectly to the onrushing Miller breaking from midfield. A Championship version of Dennis Bergkamp & Freddie Lundberg I used to think.

Legend for being a player with talent but with a legendary crap attitude, some people are too easily impressed by an occasional glimpse of skill.
If he was that good why hasn't he been picked up by another european club

Was a gifted but inconsistent player for us, a kind of poor man's non-racist equivalent of Luis Suarez. My bro's in South Vietnam right now and often checks this site, I'd like to think he'll try and catch Pablo in action if he signs soon.

He finds his level at last : 2nd division in Viet Nam which must be the same as our Licensed Trades League.
Slow ; arrogant ; fat. The latest thesaurus lists the phrase "a total waste of space" alongside the entry for "Pablo Counago"

The use of the word legend has been used far too much by some in relation to this article, i assume those using the word are under the age of 25 and just enjoyed singing ole ole etc, he was an average player, use legend for the calibre of john walk etc please!

Let's av 'im back ere!!!! Quality player! At least was interesting to watch! Much more flair than the likes of scotland and chopra. Can't get his 15 yard backheel against palace I think it was out my head! And the 97th minute chip of the keeper against cov to win the game! Need him back at PR!

see, i was always a fan of Pablo first time round, but youre only as good as your last stint, and his last stint was poor, looked disinterested and lazy.... hence the priskin comparison! Both ended up in non-entity second divisions too......

Counago was a marmite player, that's for sure.

Personally I always had a soft spot for him and for the most part I enjoyed watching him play. He had a nice first touch, good ability to hold-up the ball, and the vision to work team-mates into the attack. I agree with his critics that he often lacked application, liked a dive too often and didn't get the goal return we hoped he would. To me he was never a traditional centre-forward, more a withdrawn striker, almost like a playmaker. He was never about pace or strength, but I enjoyed watching his craft and guile.

One thing is for sure, whatever you think of Counago he shouldn't be knocking about at a Vietnamese second division side. At 32 I'm sure he's still got something to offer in a league in Europe somewhere.

Oh and who can forget.... 30 seconds after Coventry had thought they'd got a 2-2 draw. Calm as you like, Pablo lifts it over the top of Westwood, 97th minute. I'll never forget that moment.

Hilarious ! People remember that lazy sod for scoring a winner against Coventry whereas they keep criticising Bowyer and never mention his winner against West Ham. Counago would have been finished a few years ago if his pal Magilton hadn't offered him a contract in Ipswich. Poor and lazy player. He was unwanted in Spain ans so is he now. Lazy pile of crap. Can't understand why some people keep glorifying him.
