Town Topic: What Could Improve Matchdays at Portman Road?
Town Topic: What Could Improve Matchdays at Portman Road?
Thursday, 24th May 2012 07:48

Town are looking for ways of improving the Portman Road matchday experience ahead of next season and want to hear fans’ ideas.

What do you want to see before the game? What sights or sounds as the players take to the field? And what about at half-time entertainment?

What’s impressed you elsewhere at other clubs in the UK or abroad, or even at other sports? Add anything you’d like to see introduced at Portman Road below and we’ll pass them on. And yes, they know about winning more matches.

Play "My Way" very loud just before kick off. I remember being impressed at Forest when they did that with Mull of Kintyre (not really sure why they picked that one), but it gets the whole crowd (Home) going just as they were about to kick off.

I'm with the others who say that "Singing the Blues" is just embarrassing.

I know Sir Bobby would approve too!

Kids for a quid, they have to attend with adult so would boost attendance up plus getting youngsters into the ITFC drug why leave empty seats don't get it?

why not get the manager and players to acknowledge the fans - maybe sign a few programs as they come out (like the used to) - even Roy did it!

a few more open training sessions too

Move away fans to other end of stand.
Drop the mean spirited "Singing the Blues"
Big TV screens such as those at Reading
Lower ticket prices on match day purchases
Free admission for juniors when less than capacity crowds are predicted
No loud music which prevents conversation
Lower kiosk prices and fewer jumbo sized products
The clock to show added time count down
Remove handshaking ritual at the start

By far the best thing is to move the away supporters over to the Bobby Robson end. I know Clegg tried to do it when he first got here and a olad of old crones in the Cobbold objected. Dont give them a choice this time just do it, would make the atmosphere miles better.

move the away fans, stop playing music 15 mins before kick off, cheaper match day tickets, cheaper beer. but none of these will ever happen.

Cheaper tickets, move away fans to other end of Cobbold stand, get kids playing 7 a side matches on pitch at half time, play "Edward Ebeneezer" and "Hey Jude" just before kick-off to get atmosphere going.

Move the away fans to other end of the Cobbold & stop using the excuse that the Police won't do it for safety reasons.. West Ham (twice) & Arsenal have had supporters in those sections for Play Offs & Carling Cup. The atmosphere was amazing.. Was there any trouble? No thought not!

first thing is to get a winning team. i remember the old american style shoot out where you had 10 sec's to run from the half way line and beat(usually the youth team) goalie. kid's 5 a side would be ok. play better music.

I agree with most of the comments on here regarding moving away fans nearer to SBR and ticket prices, those 2 things alone will boost the atmosphere no end. Also designated standing areas, like some others have already mentioned i remember back in the old days being at FPR at 2pm on a Sat relishing the pre-match atmosphere and tension build up. If we have to have music leading up to kick off why not have the same songs each match?, say 2 or 3 played at 2.40 thus leaving a few mins for fans to do their own thing before the teams come out. Something like Hi Ho silver lining followed by We will rock you and finishing with My Way.......then the fans would know whats coming and be ready for it. Not a great fan of goal celebration music but if we have to have any then go for something way out............something like the Dickies version of The Banana Splits theme tune, then everyone can go mental.

Moving away fans nearer to SBR is never going to happen - the police will not wear it!

Get an entertaining winning team and the rest will take care of itself!

Get the youth team out for a 10th min 5-side at half time. Give the fans a chance to see what's in the youth academy and give the boys a buzz playing on front of a few thousand fans to help their development.
Cheaper tickets.
I decent DJ on the mould of Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam to gee up the crowd and take the Michael out of Clegg e.t.c...

It has to be sensible ticket pricing what sort of atmosphere can be generated with acres of blue seats in the stands-REDUCE TICKETS -where in recession for christ sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next season could be the dullest atmosphere since the mid 80s if nothings done

On the subject of a DJ or MC to gee up the fans I went to FC Lorient when they beat Montpellier recently and the guy on the pitch with the mike was mental. Ran the whole length of the pitch a few times so both ends joined in, imitating how he expected the team to surge forward etc. He drowned the music out while making his own entertainment. Bit of a local legend.
They also have a pipe band, wouldn't recommend that at PR.

The biggest Improvement on match days would be to have 11 new players and manager
