Town Topic: What Could Improve Matchdays at Portman Road?
Thursday, 24th May 2012 07:48

Town are looking for ways of improving the Portman Road matchday experience ahead of next season and want to hear fans’ ideas.

What do you want to see before the game? What sights or sounds as the players take to the field? And what about at half-time entertainment?

What’s impressed you elsewhere at other clubs in the UK or abroad, or even at other sports? Add anything you’d like to see introduced at Portman Road below and we’ll pass them on. And yes, they know about winning more matches.

Cheaper tickets. 33 quid for a match day ticket is frankly scandalous. Big crowds = better atmosphere.

Next to free tickets for kids. Without going to matches it's hard keeping your 7 year old son's faith.

Not having to buy a match day ticket from a portakabin.

Cheaper booze. More drunkeness would help the moribund atmosphere.

It's not rocket science.

At the moment the club are charging top dollar prices for an inferior product and that is unsustainable in any business.

In addition many supporters no longer feel the affection for the club they once felt, before the

It should be compulsory for every team to have 2 mascots...then during half time they can set up a 2 v 2 match between the mascots...kinda like when they used to take penalties against each other...I would like nothing more than to see bluey take the legs from Delia Smith...she's THEY -WHO-DON'T-DESERVED-TO-BE-NAMED's mascot right???

Chirpsbird - was that their official position about My Way? It's too slow!? 'You'll never walk alone' is hardly 140 bpm is it!? Sometime i wonder what tasteless, out-of-touch weirdos get jobs of position in football clubs!!

My Way it is Phil. We're all in agreement on here...

The club expect loyalty from it's fans, but there's no loyalty from the club to the fans! Cheeper tickets would be a simple start (e.g I no longer go 'coz i can't afford too!!)
The "singing the blues" tune is awful and always has been, everyone knew the 1st verse then lost interest. We need some music to "get us all up for it" so why not ask some local D.J's to help! -does it need to be football related or just an overture for the event? I always wondered why when the singing did start (coz it did once) why couldn't it be relayed (via the speakers) to the whole ground. we could crank up the noise electronically or encourage everyone to sing. Can we think of new songs, "Blue Army"(yawn), any Naaawich based song is irrelevant (esp the one about "them running away") the roots of which are older than the internet!!! Imagination!

Keaneish, I never thought about Liverpool's song, how slow is that?!

Apparantly, the suggestion of 'My Way' was not met with support by the Supporters Club and others within the club. They said the pace of the music is not upbeat enough to have the desired effect on the players and supporters alike....

Maybe it shouldn't be played just before the players come out but I definitely think it should have a position in the playlist at some point before kick off at every home game.

Marcus evans is a sport promo compnay partly so maybe they should take a look at FPR. It's awful. Leaving aside the football, the "experience" is woeful. The bars are shabby and overpriced (£2 for a water!). There are never enough staff and they are hopelessly inexperienced. The feel is off desire to rip off the fans, not make it a good place to come.

The "entertainment" is a joke. Bluey and Crazee are realy well meaning and nice but surely we can be more imaginative than that.

The feel should be inclusive and partisan - fans doing things on the pitch like penalties at half time and maybe a competition of the music to play. The feel is the club don't give a toss.

Agree on the price (but hard to chnage without ripping off the season ticket holders). The idea I really like is the bar for all fans in the centre spot or simialr for before the game. We are the club, include us and trust us.

oh, and the sound system in the bars is inaudible. The little show thye do with steve pearce is OK but you can't hear it so is a waste ot time. Maybe if Clegg and Evans sat in the north (SBR) or other stands just once they woud understand.

Cheaper tickets/ more incentives and discounts for season ticket holders (the scum season ticket holders can get 25- 50% off meals at the riverside complex near the ground if they have their season tickets on them, can't think of much that our fans get off for having season tickets).

Also, moving the away fans to the other side of the cobbold. Single handedly the best way to improve Pre/during/post match atmosphere (a couple of friends of mine support man city and were in the away end when they trashed us 4-1 in the fa cup 10 years ago and, even with premier league crowds, said the ground and in particular the south stand, was very quiet...

Thanks Chirpbird but i have to suggest that the motion of it 'not having a desired effect' is ridiculous! Is 'Singing the Blues' upbeat and supposed to stir passion over a Frank Sinatra classic and Bobby Robson favourite!? Do me a favour!!

Bring back My Way and in time it'll be learnt, sung and become a hall mark of ITFC. Even the lyrics are more poignant and resonate more with being a fan of ITFC than any other song...

'I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

Have the man who sings before the game sing at half time to give fans inspiration.

A big screen is a great idea, only realistic if we acheive promotion though. I always seem to remember at Charlton a few years back they had a big screen in the ground showing the lunchtime kick offwhich attracted fans to come earlier. Also 5 mins before KO the screen played highlights from the clubs history to pump up the crowd.

thanks souper jim. yes, i think we as supporters need to make some noise, but we also need to be met half way and inspired to do so. by decorating the stadium with the rich history we have, would go a long way to cheering us up. this also worked very well when i saw az alkmaar not long ago, in the club shop was a trophy cabnet, showing not only the trophys, but the clubs history, history of the town, old kits etc. maybe somthing else to look into for our club shop.

also a message to simon and marcus (assuming you rerad this of course)
there is one way you are going to get all your answers for sure, and thats to go to a home game and view it through the eyes of a supporter. leave the mercedes and credit cards at home, travel into town by bus, buy your ticket and come and sit with us. its very easy to "brainstorm" whilst your tea and sandwhichs are hand delrivered to you in the boardroom, but until you pay what we pay, see what we see and do what we do, you will never understand how to make portman road epic again

We should sell Chicken Nuggets at Jennys. This would help the sale of nuggets all over the car park. Also, you should have a picture of me on the programmes to boost sales. Maybe even change the goal music to Lipstick by Jedward. This will definatly get the fans going.

Simple, get a team playing football that people want to watch as opposed to one that bores the arse off people

The guy at Watford was very annoying to ITFC fans in the ground because everything he said was very bias towards the Watford team, we nee the man with the mike at PR to be similarly bias.

Devontractor added 02:19 - Apr 30
I used to love going to PR: Barca at home, turn up on the night and pass £2.40 to the guy at the turnstile and then watch Cruyff, Neeskins and co demolished 3-0. Happy days.
Realistically that'll never happen again but rather than try and complicate things surely the way forward is to simplify and minimise costs? KISS - We just want an entertaining and winning team.

Where shall I start....
Cheaper Tickets = more people in = better atmosphere = better results = more revenue

Half time - youth teams on the pitch, also the team on the pitch against Leicester was brilliant, everyone got involved. Palace had a much better half time entertainment. Kids picked from crowd for pens, cheerleaders ;-) an eagle flying around the stadium.

On a personal level STOP THE MUSIC WHEN A GOAL IS SCORED!!! I cant stand this plastic football atmosphere. It happens at way too many crowds.
