Cheerleaders to Return to Portman Road
Cheerleaders to Return to Portman Road
Wednesday, 23rd May 2012 09:52

Town are looking for cheerleaders for the 2012/13 season as they make changes to their matchday entertainment, including adding a dance routine at half-time.

Club secretary Sally Webb said: “Obviously our priority is to find a winning formula on the pitch that will provide entertainment for the fans.

“But as a club, we are looking at various ways of adding to the matchday experience for supporters coming to Portman Road.

“We are talking to the fans and will be doing so more over the next few weeks to gauge opinions as we look to change things around for next season.

“We’ve had cheerleaders before and they were very popular so we’re now on the lookout for a new group to become part of our matchday team.”

If you are part of an existing dance group and would like to become the club’s cheerleaders or are an individual who fancies the challenge of putting a group together, contact Jade Cole or Julie Bryant at the club by email. A link to video footage would be beneficial.

Alternatively, post a DVD of your group in action to Jade or Julie at Press Office, Ipswich Town Football Club, Portman Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 2DA.

The Blues are welcome to suggestions for improving their matchday entertainment with a TWTD Town Topic on the subject here.

Don't think this is really what we need at half time. Bit cringey and boring I'm afraid. I agree with the idea of a penalty shootout or some younger guys playing mini games?

Signs of people who really haven't a clue - trying to run this Football Club I'm afraid.

We all know what we want - and it's not this.

So of that post that went around which generated nearly 100 ideas, the only selected one to date is cheer leaders!?

Fook me! Ipswich is only an hour and twenty minutes from one of the biggest creative hubs on the planet...and we came up with cheer leaders!?

Club secretary, please resign!

A free pint at the bar if we are in front at half time, another at the end if we win.

Apart from the highly predictable, puerile comments made by neanderthals with clear problems, it's obvious that most people see this as a completely embarrassing response to what was a serious discussion a few weeks ago. What Jewell said today about bringing in players with whom the fans can identify is a far more significant step towards improving the atmosphere at Portman Road. "Cheerleaders" don't even do as it says on the tin, ie lead cheering. It's just a tacky American import which has no place in our national sport.

Excellent idea, only this time make the cheerleaders older and fitter and more scantily clad

Cheerleaders? Really? Did no one take notice of the atmosphere and engagement from the crowd when the young downs syndrome boys were on the pitch against Leicester Easter Monday? The whole crowd were loving it! Get more of that instead of pathetic cheerleaders who just make a fool of themselves!!
