Blues and Palace Linked With Baldock Talks
Blues and Palace Linked With Baldock Talks
Sunday, 10th Jun 2012 12:48

Crystal Palace and Town are in talks with West Ham regarding the signing of striker Sam Baldock, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. TWTD reported the Blues’ interest in the 23-year-old former MK Dons frontman a month ago.

Baldock, who joined the Hammers last August for a fee which could ultimately be worth £2.75 million with add-ons, would appear to be surplus to requirements at Upton Park since their promotion having made only 11 starts and 13 sub appearances since his move, scoring five goals.

West Ham are likely to want to recoup the fee they paid for Baldock but if they are unable to negotiate a permanent deal may be prepared to send the Aylesbury Vale-born striker out on loan for the season. Hull City have also been linked.

Crystal Palace are also believed to have beaten Bristol City and Brighton to the signature of ex-Norwich frontman Aaron Wilbraham, who was understood to be interesting the Blues in January.

Bluey123 - Disagree. He's an excellent player and the more young talent like Baldock in the squad the better.

Well why did he not get in West Ham side if he is that good I wonder how often you have seen him

Would like someone big and powerful, but I wouldn't turn Baldock down, no chance. Supposedly very quick which we completely lack up front and one of the things that has frustrated me so much about Chopra.

On a season loan he would be a very good signing in my book.

In answer to bluey - because West Ham have about 10 first team strikers!

Would be a good signing, but only on a permanent deal or as our one and only season long loan. Good to be linked/signed two younger players - but will either play? I doubt it. All for building for the future though and this guy would tick those boxes as well and more importantly would regularly feature in our starting 11.

Not against a season long loan - but only one of them, with no recall.

Any team above league two go in for him then he wont come here.

Would be a great addition, but depends how much of our transfer kitty would be needed to buy.

Believe he has the potential to score a lot at this level and as stated above has real pace.

this guy is excellent, couple of my mates are hammers and rate him as one of their best strikers. Apparently he doesnt fit in with allardyces way of playing......they really dont want him to go...... would welcome him here big time...... anyone who hasnt seen him play..... watch this.....

There's an awful lot of Baldocks being spoken on this thread.

Having watched the vid can see why we're interested. Has a good pedigree and we've lacked pace up front to create openings, apart from Lee Martin.

bluey123 - to accuse Jewell of mismanagement based on paper talk is hardly fair.

It's clear you don't like Jewell and you are entitled to that opinion but this is just criticism for the sake of it.

In any case, this would be a good signing of a promising young player; or would you rather we bought more 30-somethings?

Quality player Baldock liked him at MKD West Ham don't suit his style we desperately need a quick striker who can run between the lines n has pace 2 out strip a defender Crystal Palace don't have 2-3m too spent they will b looking 4 a loan deal I'd prefer 2 sign him permanent here still young could b a real quality signing can't see WH excepting anything below 2m will we pay that I'd like too think so as Evans has said he will support Jewell if the right player comes available: but every player TWTD links the club with 99/100 we don't sign or interested in wait n see

Sam Baldock is a very good player and works his socks off. He will be a great addition especially if Chopra goes off the rails again. I know its a division lower but my Milton Keynes contacts really rated the guy and before he got crocked at West Ham he scored some vital goals. After the injury West ham signed Vaz Te and Baldock could not get back in. In my opinion we should pull out all the stops to get him.

Question for everyone. Where does Garv say he wants Chopra replaced? I cannot see it even if an idiot can. COYB

Good player but not what we need, Him and Chopra are too similar types of players can't see a partnership working. If we are going to bring a striker in would rather have a tall target man type who will get the best out of Chops.

Baldock was class at MK Dons and we need another striker with pace. Get him in!!

another dwarf up front, and with a distinctly average scoring rate. I don't give a damn what else he brings we need a physical presence in up front, we got plenty of shorties with talent. Priorities Jewell, don't waste money on players we don't need when we have better need to spend the cash elsewhere

Glad to see Wilbraham ending up elsewhere, so how many strikers do Palace really need or are they expecting to sell Zaha?
Nicky Maynard got hardly any game time either at West Ham, worth a bid.

..... no prizes for guessing who he would sign for in a straight choice then - forget it , move on and just get some signings done - all talk, no do - as usual.

The video clips look v promising. Definitely looks a quality player. Scotland hasn't signed yet and even if he does, it'll only be for one season. We need more depth and Baldock looks the real deal.
